A novel technique# for on line adaptation of neural network classifiers to non#stationary image and video inputs, is proposed in this paper. The scheme includes# on the one hand, a maximum a posteriori procedure which optimally estimates the most representative data of the current environment and# on the other hand, a retrieval mechanism which selects the most appropriate network classifier from a system memory. Small perturbation of the retrieved network weights is then performed for further improving the network performance

Digital Workflow for Virtual and Augmented Visit of Architecture

This paper adopts Virtual and Augmented reality experiences to be enjoyed in a historical place as tools and bust for the knowledge and dissemination of the culture of a landscape. The development of this virtual pipeline is focused on some Neoclassical architecture built in the monumental park of the Reggia of Monza and considers the semantic modeling of the digital survey to support a virtualized and augmented environment for culture production and culture dissemination. The workflow described regards: construction of semantic relations between the various architectures of the case history; survey of the same buildings with advanced technologies; modeling of point clouds to create parametric 3D models of the existing through digital modeling of elements and buildings; experiments of virtual environments; experiences of augmented reality. It considers the buildings as virtual hubs to describe their history and the landscape they set up, where one is related to the other in the same Park by perspective green paths as a spread museum; the aim is a fruition renewed by immersive realities to be enjoyed in situ brought to public, to smart users, for a better knowledge of Cultural Heritage. Due to the integration and interoperability among different technologies many issues grow during the research, and it considers them steps necessary to be investigated

ICT and Digital Technologies. The New European Competence Centre for the Preservation and Conservation of Cultural Heritage

    No full text
Europe’s cultural heritage sites are in danger, due to the increasing occurrence of disasters such as floods, earthquakes, and also because of man-made damage or the effects of climate change. In this framework, digital technology can help preserve the knowledge of threatened heritage artefacts, museums, monuments, documents and sites and make them accessible for citizens across Europe and for future generations. In this direction, the European Commission has launched a call for the creation of a “Competence Centre” aimed at preserving cultural heritage through ICT technologies, as a transnational and interdisciplinary reference point. The project 4CH—Competence Centre for the Conservation of Cultural Heritage aims to design and define the overall architecture of a European Competence Centre on Cultural Heritage, which will operate proactively for the conservation and safeguarding of heritage. The project aims to initiate the implementation of the structure, organisation and services of the Competence Centre, which will operate as an infrastructure aimed at providing cultural, scientific, technological, financial, strategic and policy expertise and advice able to exploit the most advanced ICT, 3D and digital technologies

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
