Targeting tumor metastases: drug delivery mechanisms and technologies

    No full text
Primary sites of tumor are the focal triggers of cancers, yet it is the subsequent metastasis events that cause the majority of the morbidity and mortality. Metastatic tumor cells exhibit a phenotype that differs from that of the parent cells, as they represent a resistant, invasive subpopulation of the original tumor, may have acquired additional genetic or epigenetic alterations under exposure to prior chemotherapeutic or radiotherapeutic treatments, and reside in a microenvironment differing from that of its origin. This combination of resistant phenotype and distal location make tracking and treating metastases particularly challenging. In this review, we highlight some of the unique biological traits of metastasis, which in turn, inspire emerging strategies for targeted imaging of metastasized tumors and metastasis-directed delivery of therapeutics.Peer reviewe

Total phenolics and antioxidant capacity of cocoa pulp: processing and storage study

    No full text
Cocoa pulp, the white mucilage that surrounds cocoa beans, is the main substrate in cocoa bean fermentation and is rich in macro- and micronutrients. Yet, the presence of phenolics and their antioxidant activity in cocoa pulp has not been explored. The objectives of this study were to quantify the total phenolics of cocoa pulp by using Folin-Ciocalteu assay and antioxidant activity by using Oxygen Radical Absorption Capacity (ORAC) assay as well as Cellular Antioxidant Activity (CAA) assay. The effect of single and double pasteurization was investigated to better understand the potential health value and subsequently promote the utilization of cocoa pulp. Eight weeks storage studies at 4ºC, 25ºC, and 37ºC were also performed to monitor the stability of phenolics, ORAC values, and color of pasteurized cocoa pulp. Single and double pasteurization decreased phenolics content of the cocoa pulp by 25% and 38%, respectively, when compared to unpasteurized pulp (103.76±4.79 mg GAE/100 g pulp). The ORAC values were not significantly different between unpasteurized (1871±58 μmol TE/100 g pulp), single (1835±41 μmol TE/100 g pulp), and double pasteurized (1681±157 μmol TE/100 g pulp) pulp. There was a significant increase in the CAA values (EC50) of double pasteurized pulp (59.76±9.26 μmol QE/100g pulp) as compared to unpasteurized pulp (23.71±3.12 μmol QE/100 g pulp). Thus, there was a weak negative correlation between ORAC and CAA values in quantifying the antioxidant activity of cocoa pulp. Overall color differences (ΔE*) relative to unpasteurized pulp were not significantly different between single (11.50±6.64) and double pasteurized pulp (14.96±8.64). Throughout the eight week storage studies, single and double pasteurized pulp showed very little change in the phenolics content and the ORAC values at 4ºC and 25ºC. However, at 37°C, up to 50% relative loss in phenolics content and 40% relative loss in the ORAC values were observed in single pasteurized pulp; whereas double pasteurization resulted in lesser relative loss. Both single and double pasteurized pulp showed the lowest lightness (L*) values when stored at 37ºC, as well as the lowest hue angle and chroma values when stored at 4ºC, suggesting less color changes at lower storage temperature.M.S.Includes bibliographical referencesby Vidya Endraiyan

This Final Project Report was prepared by Vidya Oktamevia with Student Identification Number 1841211014, with the title "Overview of Land and Building Tax Payments (PBB) Through Bank Jabar Banten (BJB) E-Channel at KCP Surade". This report was prepared based on the results of research conducted by the author at Bank BJB KCP Surade. This study aims to find out how many taxpayers in the Surade area are aware of the existence of PBB payments through the BJB Bank E-Channel, the PBB payment process through the BJB Bank E-Channel, namely Bjb Digi and ATMs. The research method used by the author is descriptive method. The data collection technique used is observation by distributing questionnaires through google forms and literature studies. From the results of this study, it can be concluded that through the distribution of questionnaires totaling 50 taxpayer respondents who know about PBB payments and the payment process can be done through the BJB Bank EChannel, the percentage is only 22.4% in the Surade area. Things that must be done by the BJB Bank so that taxpayers in the Surade area know about the existence of E-Channel and the PBB payment process through the BJB Bank EChannel (BJB Digi and ATM) BJB parties must cooperate with government agencies to make it easier for the Bank BJB socializes to the public

Changing portrayal of a woman in Bollywood cinema: special reference of movies of Vidya Balan

    No full text
Bollywood cinema had a stereotype image of woman in its movies since the beginning. Women were loaded with the patriarchal values. There portrayal matched with the image of woman which the society had in its mind like that of Sita and Radha (Hindu goddesses). Majority of the roles were those of obedient housewives or obedient daughters. In the last decade i.e. after 2010, in India, there are more women centric films with women in leading and meaningful roles like Highway (2004, Imtiaz Ali), No one killed Jessica (2011, Raj Kumar Gupta), Kahani (2012, Sujoy Ghosh), Mardani (2014, Pradeep Sarkar, Pink (2016, Aniruddha Roy Chowdhury), Chhapaak (2020, Meghna Gulzar) Thappad (2020, Anubhav Sinha) etc. These movies also have special messages for the Indian masses, and they are helpful in bringing positive changes in the society. This change is interactive in nature. The changing scenario has made much more space for and options for women in cinema and at same time such cinema can be a useful tool in bringing positive changes in society and that too at a fast pace. These changes as well as this interactive nature need to be properly assessed. The impact of these movies can be used for gender sensitization. Some important events that took place in India will also be summarized as they are catalyst to production of women-centric movies in India. We will review the famous women-centric movies from that focused on representing strong women and their specific achievements. Comparative study of these movies, film reviews, interviews of stars and actors/actresses as well as various articles and books are consulted for this study. Ultimately, through my research and readings, I will conclude that Bollywood Industry has been finally successful in giving proper roles to the Indian actresses. Also, actresses like Vidya Balan have done highly commendable work that has brought glory to heroines. I chose to include Vidya Balan in this Capstone Research as she is a trendsetter when it comes to top women- centric movies in India like Kahani (2012, Sujoy Ghosh) and Dirty Picture (2011, Milan Luthria).M.A.Includes bibliographical reference

Interpreting the Image of the Human Body in Pre-modern India

    No full text
This paper sets out two main arguments. In part one, a description of the adherents of the various intellectual disciplines and religious faiths in premodern India is given, each having developed distinct and different imagined bodies; for example, the body described in Tantric circles had little or nothing in common with the body described in medical circles. In part two, an account is given of the encounter between Ayurvedic anatomy and early colonial European anatomy which led initially to attempts at synthesis; these gave way to an abandonment of the syncretist vision of the body and the acceptance of an epistemological suspension of judgment, in which radically different body conceptualizations are simultaneously held in unacknowledged cognitive dissonance
