Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
ADAPTAÇÃO DE RECURSOS EDUCATIVOS DE CIÊNCIAS PARA CRIANÇAS SURDAS DO 1.º CEB
This thesis aims to explore the sociopolitical dimension of translocal networks of Common-Based Initiatives (CBIs) in the food and energy sectors, evaluating the conditions that enable or constrain transformative social innovation by incorporating a more dynamic and complex framework. Focusing on Energy Communities (ECs) and Alternative Food Networks (AFNs) in Belgium and Emilia-Romagna, Italy, this study investigates how the Food-Energy Nexus (FE Nexus) can provide an inter-relational analytical framework for CBIs and promote an alternative to the institutional dynamics of the EU’s green transition agenda, current anchored in the "Decarbonization Consensus". The methodology included a literature review, document analysis, fieldwork involving 38 interviews and participant observation, and an exploratory and comparative approach. The study centered on governance mechanisms, institutional interactions, political strategies of CBIs, and the construction of collective power networks. The findings highlight the potential of CBI networks to drive transformative social innovations at both local and European levels through prefigurative practices and policies. However, challenges persist, including disparities between the objectives and language of CBIs and policymakers, limited political participation for CBI networks, distortions in the transposition of European directives by Member States, a persistent focus on regulatory changes rather than structural governance shifts, and limited recognition of the FE Nexus in both public policy formulation and CBI strategies. These barriers underscore the need for greater integration and recognition of CBIs in public policies as agents of systemic change
The amplification of sustainable food initiatives: A look at the role of intermediary networks
Food is an increasingly important topic that finds itself at a nexus in the debates of sustainability and plays a key role in answering to the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals. As a response to the high price volatility, resource extensive, and long-distance food supply chains, sustainable food initiatives have formed. These initiatives are seen in recent literature as possible pathways towards a more sustainable food system. Intermediaries in particular are actors in these initiatives that have been overlooked and can be seen for their potential to work as an in-between and bring initiatives together. This study looks to understand the role that intermediaries play as actors in the diffusion of sustainable food initiatives. The work was realized by using a typology of transition intermediaries to map their types and a typology of amplification processes to deepen the understanding of how the intermediaries facilitate diffusion. The study found that stabilizing, speeding-up, scaling-up and scaling-deep were 4 processes that the intermediaries influenced. Additionally, it expanded on how the type of intermediary each network is has a certain level of influence on how they meet their goals. Finally, the study expanded on the importance of viewing the relationships of cause and effect that different amplification processes have on one another and the potential intermediaries have to work together to realize their goals. This all comes with a hope to bring more information to actors and decision makers in the sustainable transition of food systems.

Electric cars implementation pace in the European Continent (a comparison between Norway and Portugal)
As an environmental issue, climate change has been emphasised on a global level in the last decade. Its influence is already beginning to be felt through the observed change in climate patterns and the rise in global temperatures.
As we know, there is an urgent need to reduce the emission of greenhouse gases (GHGs) into the atmosphere, which are mainly responsible for these changes. In order to keep the average global temperature rise below 2°C and pursue efforts to reach 1.5°C, GHGs need to be reduced 50% by 2030.
This is where the existence of electric cars, considered to be cars with zero GHGs emissions, comes into the equation. For daily and individual use, it is expected that, due to their technical characteristics, electric vehicles will be fundamental in helping to tackle the climate issue.
In Europe, a continent where, in 2019, 71.7% of all emissions of polluting gases came from the road sector, political concern about these issues began at the beginning of this century. However, there is one country, Norway (a non-European Union country), which holds 1st place on the podium when it comes to implementing electric mobility, where, in 2022, 4 out of 5 new vehicles sold were 100% electric vehicles. Not being the only country on the European continent where electric cars exists, it is important to objectively understand the reasons why this country has been so successful and differentiated in this area.
Is it due to political, economic, cultural or other reasons? This is what this dissertation intends to discover by comparing the results with the Portuguese reality.
