Amrita Vir (Class of 2012) was interviewed by Princess Igwe-Icho via the Zoom internet-based video conferencing software on October 18, 2022. Ms. Vir was born in Staten Island, New York, in 1990 to an Indian father and an American mother. Her family moved to Houston when she was young. Her father was an entrepreneur who spoke frankly with her about his business, and her extended family was involved in India's freedom movement, which influenced the direction of her career. Ms. Vir graduated from SMU with a degree in finance and minors in Chinese, economics, and international studies. She discussed feeling as though she needed to minimize her differences in order to fit in while at SMU. She found community through the Indian Students Association, the President's Scholars program, and the COX BBA Scholars program. She talked about her job as a radio DJ at KPNI, which directly influenced the creation of her finance podcast, The Green Room, during the COVID-19 pandemic. After graduating from SMU, she obtained her master's in public policy and her MBA from Harvard University, where she met her husband. She currently lives in Singapore and has worked for several start-up companies, including Grab. Her current work involves helping low-income factory workers in Southeast Asia acquire affordable access to financial services. She is passionate about microfinance and financial inclusion

Sexuality Beyond Consent: Risk, Race, Traumatophilia: A Conversation Among Artemis Christinaki, Amrita Narayanan, and Avgi Saketopoulou

    No full text
This transcribed conversation of an online dialogue between Artemis Christinaki, Amrita Narayanan, and Avgi Saketopoulou introduces readers to Saketopoulou’s recently published book, Sexuality Beyond Consent: Risk, Race, Traumatophilia. With astute questions and through a series of probing observations, Christinaki and Narayanan engage the author, opening up crucial dimensions of psychoanalysis, gender and sexuality studies, and politics. The exchange tracks the three main signifiers of the book, risk, race, and traumatophilia, and articulates Saketopoulou’s critical concern with the traumatophobic logics rippling through the field. What emerges is a rich discussion of how Saketopoulou’s three terms work within psychoanalysis and the risks, opportunities, and challenges they unfurl in the clinic and in the broader field of psychosocial and psychoanalytic studies.<br/

Play is an important part of early childhood education, as it serves as a guiding line for activities in kindergarten. Play has been repeatedly emphasized in early childhood education documents as an important part of a child’s development, learning and well-being. Play serves as a key element in my thesis, as I aim to reflect and develop my professional skills as an enabler and supporter of play in a daycare environment using different tools and working methods. In my thesis I will examine and reflect on early childhood education in a functional bilingual environment from the perspective of supportive play. My thesis aims to reflect upon my skills and ways of working as a early childhood education professional. Along the thesis process, I will explore the transition process of digitalisation in child’s curriculum for early childhood education and care plan. Aditionally the development of the learning environment, the prevention of bullying, the increase of inclusion, the support of play through picture exchange communication system will be explored. In the thesis, I also present my reflections as a new early childhood education teacher on the importance of orientation, well-being at work and work-specific tasks. My thesis will benefit not only the day care I work in during my thesis process, but my results may also be benefitial to other kindergartens. My thesis is a diary-based thesis, as knows as PONT, in which I noted my work for ten weeks in a new workplace. The theory part consists of play, its development and the conditions of play in daycare. The National Core Curriculum for Early Childhood Education 2018 by the Organisation of Finnish National Agency for Education is also utilized in the foundations of the theory part as well as The Early Childhood Education Act. The conclusion of my thesis is that interaction between educators in daycare plays an important part in developing the working culture, and with it in maintaining and guaranteeing the conditions for play. The learning environment also plays a big role in enabling, allowing play, creating a play environment.Leikki on merkittävä osa varhaiskasvatusta, sillä se toimii päiväkodin toimintaa ohjaavana nuorana. Leikkiä onkin korostettu varhaiskasvatuksen asiakirjoissa toistuvasti, sillä se on tärkeä osa lapsen kehitystä, oppimista ja hyvinvointia. Leikki toimii keskeisenä elementtinä opinnäytetyössäni, sillä pyrin kehittämään ammattitaitoani leikin mahdollistajana ja tukijana oppimisympäristössä erilaisia työmenetelmiä käyttäen. Opinnäytetyössä tarkastelen ja pohdin varhaiskasvatusta toiminnallisessa kaksikielisessä ympäristössä leikin tukemisen näkökulmasta. Opinnäytetyön tarkoituksena on reflektoida osaamistani ja toimintatapojani varhaiskasvatuksen ammattilaisena. Kiinnitän matkan varrella huomiota digitaaliseen varhaiskasvatussunnitelman siirtymisprosessiin, oppimisympäristön kehittämiseen, kiusaamisen ehkäisyyn, osallisuuden lisäämiseen, leikin tukemiseen kuvakommunikoinnin avulla. Opinnäytetyössä tuon esille myös pohdintojani uutena varhaiskasvatuksen opettajana perehdytyksen tärkeyteen, työhyvinvointiin sekä työvuorokohtaisiin työtehtäviin. Opinnäytetyöstäni hyötyvät itseni lisäksi päiväkoti, jossa työskentelen. Opinnäytetyöstä hyötyvät mahdollisesti myös muut päiväkodit. Opinnäytetyöni on päiväkirjamuotoinen opinnäytetyö eli PONT, jossa kirjasin kymmenen viikon ajan työskentelyni uudessa työpaikassa, toiminnallisessa kaksikieleisessä päiväkodissa.
