Comparative Analysis of CVaR Newsvendor and Traditional Inventory Management Models: An Empirical Study in the Electric Vehicle Industry

    Get PDF
This comparative study examines inventory decision-making performance using the Conditional Value at Risk (CVaR) extended newsvendor model versus the traditional newsvendor framework. The analysis employs actual monthly sales data from the electric vehicle industry across diverse market scenarios. Electric vehicle supply chains face significant challenges from demand volatility and tail risk—the potential for extreme events that adversely affect supply chain operations. This research evaluates how the two models perform in the face of these market challenges, providing insights to inform improved inventory decisions in unpredictable environments. The paper introduces the CVaR criterion, along with risk and loss-aversion parameters derived from traditional models, to enhance risk-control capabilities and decision robustness. Three distinct market scenarios—normal, high-demand, and low-demand conditions—were established. Python was used to determine optimal order quantities, complemented by a sensitivity analysis examining parameter variations. Findings indicate that the CVaR-extended newsvendor model outperforms traditional approaches, particularly in terms of fitting accuracy. The model demonstrates effectiveness in reducing fluctuations in ordering strategy during peak-demand scenarios, as measured by the root-mean-square absolute error (RMSAE), and in maintaining stability under extreme conditions. This capability substantially enhances the management of both stockout and inventory backlog risks. The model demonstrates validated applicability and robustness within high-uncertainty environments characteristic of risk-intensive sectors. Research findings establish a more adaptable optimization framework for inventory management, with practical significance for industries facing challenging risk conditions

ANNs in ABC Multi-driver Optimization Based on Thailand Automotive Industry

The purpose of this research was to develop a method for Activity Based Costing (ABC) that provided accurate product production costs. ABC using Single Driver Activity Based Costing (SDABC) can result in distortion of the cost. A more accurate ABC cost calculation based on multiple cost drivers (CDs) in each activity has been devised and proven by considering the various cost drivers using the correlation coefficient or R2. The application of artificial neural networks (ANNs) to choose the CDs is Multiple Drivers Activity Based Costing (MDABC). The ANNs choose the CDs by algorithms including Multilayer Perceptron and Back-propagation. The transfer function for hidden layers is the Log-Sigmoid Function and for the output layer is the Pure Linear transfer function. The results have demonstrated that using MDABC results in more accurate cost calculations than when using SDABC. The study found that both of the extended ABC method, SDABC and MDABC provide more accurate actual cost of production, and both are applicable to products with low turnover or those in a state of loss condition. However, MDABC is better used in situations which include a variety of production activities, while the SDABC method is best used in situations of the factory operations not being very complex. Overall, the resolution, or accuracy, of the calculated production costs is better using the MDABC method, but is more complicated in its use and operation. Computer-based ANNs overcome this problem of complexity

The majority of manufacturers do not have their own brands, up to 65.2 %, and do lacking of skilled workforce, up to 62.3 %.  Moreover, we found that the group of break/suspension system and internal decoration are needed to improve hastily; whilst the external decoration group is not.  In addition, the researcher found that the 5 core technologies that Thai auto-part manufactures should recognize can be arranged as follows: mold/die engineering 56.3 %, digital engineering 53.6 %, high tensile strength steel forming 34.8 %, aluminum parts forming 30.4 %, and engineering plastics 27.5 %.  This research also recommended the integrated working among government, academic, and private sectors in order to accomplish the mission. This chapter reports the results of the case study of online interaction. Prior to conducting the case study, the author conducted a pre-study to understand how students and instructors view the problems they face in online courses. After that, the author used Hillman et al. and Moore’s four types of interaction and Henri’s analytical model as a framework to guide the investigation in order to understand the nature of interaction in an online course. The results of this study showed that combination three of the types of interaction and the analytical model help teaching and learning become more effective. Furthermore, this study provides recommendations and practices that would be helpful for online instructors to design and deliver online courses effectively.</jats:p

Approaching low liver iron burden in chelated patients with non-transfusion-dependent thalassemia: the safety profile of deferasirox

    Get PDF
Objective: Patients with non-transfusion-dependent thalassemia (NTDT) often develop iron overload and related complications, and may require iron chelation. However, the risk of over-chelation emerges as patients reach low, near-normal body iron levels and dose adjustments may be needed. In the THALASSA study, the threshold for chelation interruption was LIC <3 mg Fe/g dw (LIC<3); 24 patients receiving deferasirox for up to 2 yr reached this target. A post hoc analysis was performed to characterize the safety profile of deferasirox as these patients approached LIC<3. Methods: THALASSA was a randomized, double-blind, placebo-controlled study of two deferasirox regimens (5 and 10 mg/kg/d) versus placebo in patients with NTDT. Patients randomized to deferasirox or placebo in the core could enter a 1-yr extension, with all patients receiving deferasirox (extension starting doses based on LIC at end-of-core and prior chelation response). The deferasirox safety profile was assessed between baseline and 6 months before reaching LIC<3 (Period 1), and the 6 months immediately before achieving LIC<3 (Period 2). Results: Mean ± SD deferasirox treatment duration up to reaching LIC<3 was 476 ± 207 d, and deferasirox dose was 9.7 ± 3.0 mg/kg/d. The exposure-adjusted AE incidence regardless of causality was similar in periods 1 (1.026) and 2 (1.012). There were no clinically relevant differences in renal and hepatic laboratory parameters measured close to the time of LIC<3 compared with measurements near the previous LIC assessment. Conclusions: The deferasirox safety profile remained consistent as patients approached the chelation interruption target, indicating that, with appropriate monitoring and dose adjustments in relation to iron load, low iron burdens may be reached with deferasirox with minimal risk of over-chelation
