Efficiency of air assisted sprayer of phytosanitary use in fruitgrowing in Cuyo (Argentina)
La protección fitosanitaria de los montes frutales se efectúa principalmente con
equipos hidroneumáticos. Debido a la ausencia de estudios actuales, se planteó el objetivo
de evaluar el desempeño de los principales equipos utilizados en montes frutales en Cuyo
(Argentina). Las mediciones se realizaron a régimen estandarizado de la toma posterior
de potencia del tractor. Se evaluó el caudal de aire en túnel de viento y la distribución
espacial de la velocidad de aire con anemómetros de hilo caliente. La determinación
de la distribución vertical de pulverizados se realizó en banco de lamelas. Complementariamente
se determinó la demanda de potencia. Los caudales de aire variaron entre
257,49 m3.min-1 y 485,17 m3.min-1. Los equipos B y C en ambos accionamientos presentaron
asimetría en la distribución de aire. La distribución vertical de pulverizados presentó
simetría entre el sector izquierdo y derecho, excepto para el equipo B en sus dos accionamientos
y E alta. La demanda de potencia alternó entre 11,96 kW y 31,17 kW. Los equipos
más eficientes resultaron A en el único accionamiento disponible, D baja y alta y E baja. Los
equipos difieren en sus capacidades aerodinámicas, tanto en caudal de aire erogado como
en su distribución bilateral y en la demanda de potencia.Phytosanitary protection of fruit crops is mainly done with axial fan sprayers. Due
to lack of up-dated studies, the objective was to assess the performance of the main
hydropneumatic spraying units used for phytosanitary treatment of fruit plants in Cuyo
(Argentina). Measurements were taken at a standardized rate from the rear PTO (power
take off) of the tractor. The air flow generated by the fan was assessed in a wind tunnel
and the spatial distribution of air velocity was evaluated with a hot wire anemometer.
The determination of vertical spray distribution was done with a lamellate patternator.
Power demands were also determined. Air flows ranged between 257.49 m3.min-1 and
485.17 m3 min-1. Spraying units B and C showed asymmetric air distribution. Vertical
spray distribution showed symmetry between the left and right sections, except for unit
of equipment B in both working modes and E high. Power demand alternated between
11.96 kW and 31.17 kW. The most efficient units were A in its only available working
mode D low and high and E low. Hydro pneumatic units have different aerodynamic
capacities, both in released air flow and bilateral distribution and they have different

Evaluation of a drift recovery panel for phytosanitary treatments in vineyards
Se construyó un panel con deshumidificadores acoplable a máquinas atomizadoras
convencionales, capaz de retener el líquido de pulverización que se pierde por deriva.
Los objetivos del trabajo fueron: a) verificar su capacidad de recuperación, b) estudiar
su influencia en las características del pulverizado y c) comprobar la variación de
la deriva en el suelo y las hileras aledañas. El prototipo se ensayó en un viñedo cv.
Malbec conducido en espaldera alta. La aplicación de oxicloruro de cobre con equipo
hidroneumático convencional se definió como tratamiento testigo. Se evaluó la calidad
de la pulverización usando papeles hidrosensibles y receptores ubicados en la hilera
tratada, dos hileras adyacentes y el suelo. En ensayos a campo, el panel recuperó el
37% del volumen aplicado para inicios del desarrollo vegetativo y el 11% con máxima
vegetación. El recuperador no influyó en la cantidad de producto depositado, ni en
la calidad de distribución del pulverizado sobre la canopia tratada. En el tratamiento
convencional se comprobó que gran parte de la deriva se pierde principalmente en el
suelo aledaño a las hileras pulverizadas. El panel redujo significativamente la deriva en
el suelo, tanto en depósito de pesticida como en cantidad de impactos por superficie.A panel with dehumidifiers attachable to conventional sprayers was designed,
capable of retaining the spray liquid that is lost by drift. The objectives of this study
were: a) verify the recovery capacity of the panel, b) to study their influence on the
characteristics of spraying, c) check the drift modification in soil and the surrounding
rows. The prototype was tested in a vertical shoot positioned (VSP) trellised vineyard
cv. Malbec. The application of copper oxychloride with conventional hydropneumatic
equipment was defined as a control treatment. Spray quality was assessed using water
sensitive papers and receptors on the treated row, in two adjacent rows and soil. In field
trials, the panel recovers 37% of the volume applied for early vegetative development
and 11% with maximum vegetation. The panel did not influence the amount of product
deposited, nor the quality of the spray distribution on the treated canopy. In the conventional
treatment it was found that drift is lost mainly in the soil adjacent to the treated
rows. The panel significantly reduced drift to the soil, both the deposit of pesticide

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
