Climate change and equity
No full textThe Gavin Mooney Memorial Essay Competition honours the work and memory of the late Professor Gavin Mooney, a health economist who was a tireless advocate for social justice in local, national and international arenas.
Launched in 2013, the competition seeks to draw public attention to social justice and health equity concerns, and to recognise the public-interest value of writing and writers.
The inaugural competition called for essays on the theme of climate change and equity, in recognition of the work of Professor Mooney’s late partner Dr Delys Weston. Each year the competition will call for entries related to a theme around equity and social justice.
Sydney GP Dr Tim Senior took out the inaugural 2013 prize with his essay “Climate Change and Equity: Whose Language Is It Anyway?”. The judges said the winning entry challenges the language of climate change activism, and also incorporates the voices of those who are most likely to be affected by climate change.
The four runner-up entries are by Steve Campbell and Lucie Rychetnik, Oscar McLaren, Peter Boyer and Dora Marinova, and Fergus Green

Weaving the net: developing selective digital collecting principles at the National Library of New Zealand [Webinar paper]
No full textIn Aotearoa New Zealand, legislation authorises the National Library to make a copy of any electronic documents in scope for legal deposit or request assistance from publishers as required. Digital collecting under legal deposit was always intended to be selective. In reality, for almost 20 years, our operational practice was to collect what was available and what was offered. With the explosion of digital publications and formats this was neither sustainable nor an ideal use of resources. To build a digital collection which is representative of New Zealand’s published documentary heritage, we need to be intentional and transparent in where we focus our resources. To guide staff and publishers, we have developed principles to support the selection of digital content.
These principles respect our commitment to Te Tiriti o Waitangi (the Treaty of Waitangi) and focus on the priorities identified in our collecting plans. They limit extensive focus on certain topics and ensure diversity of voices and perspective especially those missing or under-represented in our collections.

Rhonda Grantham is the Legal Deposit Specialist at the National Library of New Zealand. She has been working in the Legal Deposit and Acquisitions Team at the National Library since 2015. How does this method of Ritual Poetic Drama within the African Continuum, by extension, solo performance, uncover, heal queer trauma through witnessing and performance practice? How do these methods give us an intersectional approach to talking about race, identity, gender and bridge those divides? How does this devised work of solo performance allow the author as practitioner to claim the ground on which they stand and surrender to their own healing?
This thesis attempts excavation of the foundational theories in regard to performance structure, and to discover how healing trauma through theoretical techniques achieves liberation through their enacted practice. This is an allowance of ourselves as artists and facilitators to claim our traumatic bodies as worthy sites of invention
