Explicit Determinantal Representation Formulas of -Weighted Drazin Inverse Solutions of Some Matrix Equations over the Quaternion Skew Field
By using determinantal representations of the -weighted Drazin inverse previously obtained by the author within the framework of the theory of the column-row determinants, we get explicit formulas for determinantal representations of the -weighted Drazin inverse solutions (analogs of Cramer's rule) of the quaternion matrix equations WAWX = D, XWBW = D, and W 1 AW 1 XW 2 BW 2 = D
Myonuclear accretion is a determinant of exercise-induced remodeling in skeletal muscle.
Skeletal muscle adapts to external stimuli such as increased work. Muscle progenitors (MPs) control muscle repair due to severe damage, but the role of MP fusion and associated myonuclear accretion during exercise are unclear. While we previously demonstrated that MP fusion is required for growth using a supra-physiological model (Goh and Millay, 2017), questions remained about the need for myonuclear accrual during muscle adaptation in a physiological setting. Here, we developed an 8 week high-intensity interval training (HIIT) protocol and assessed the importance of MP fusion. In 8 month-old mice, HIIT led to progressive myonuclear accretion throughout the protocol, and functional muscle hypertrophy. Abrogation of MP fusion at the onset of HIIT resulted in exercise intolerance and fibrosis. In contrast, ablation of MP fusion 4 weeks into HIIT, preserved exercise tolerance but attenuated hypertrophy. We conclude that myonuclear accretion is required for different facets of exercise-induced adaptive responses, impacting both muscle repair and hypertrophic growth

Stem cells in neuroinjury and neurodegenerative disorders: Challenges and future neurotherapeutic prospects
The prevalence of neurodegenerative diseases and neural injury disorders is increasing worldwide. Research is now focusing on improving current neurogenesis techniques including neural stem cell therapy and other biochemical drug-based approaches to ameliorate these disorders. Unfortunately, we are still facing many obstacles that are rendering current neurotherapies ineffective in clinical trials for reasons that are yet to be discovered. That is why we should start by fully understanding the complex mechanisms of neurogenesis and the factors that affect it, or else, all our suggested therapies would fail since they would not be targeting the essence of the neurological disorder but rather the symptoms. One possible paradigm shift is to switch from neuroprotectant therapies towards neurodegeneration-neurorestorative approaches. In addition, other and our laboratories are increasingly focusing on combining the use of pharmacological agents (such as Rho-associated kinase (ROCK) inhibitors or other growth factors (such as brain-derived neurotrophic factor (BDNF)) and stem cell treatment to enhance the survivability and-or differentiation capacity of transplanted stem cells in neurotrauma or other neurodegeneration animal models. Ongoing stem cell research is surely on the verge of a breakthrough of multiple effective therapeutic options for neurodegenerative disorders. Once, we fully comprehend the process of neurogenesis and its components, we will fully be capable of manipulating and utilizing it. In this work, we discuss the current knowledge of neuroregenerative therapies and their associated challenges.Ahlenius H, 2009, J NEUROSCI, V29, P4408, DOI 10.1523-JNEUROSCI.6003-08.2009; Antony JM, 2011, J NEUROSCI RES, V89, P286, DOI 10.1002-jnr.22533; Bedard A, 2004, DEV BRAIN RES, V151, P159, DOI 10.1016-j.devbrainres.2004.03.021; Bruijnzeel AW, 2011, BRAIN RES, V1413, P32, DOI 10.1016-j.brainres.2011.07.041; Buzanska L, 2006, STEM CELLS DEV, V15, P391, DOI 10.1089-scd.2006.15.391; Cramer Nathan Peter, 2014, Front Neurol, V4, P213, DOI 10.3389-fneur.2013.00213; Cunningham CL, 2013, J NEUROSCI, V33, P4216, DOI 10.1523-JNEUROSCI.3441-12.2013; Curtis MA, 2007, SCIENCE, V315, P1243, DOI 10.1126-science1136281; de Paula S, 2012, NEUROSCIENCE, V210, P431, DOI 10.1016-j.neuroscience.2012.03.009; Encinas JM, 2011, J COMP NEUROL, V519, P6, DOI 10.1002-cne.22503; Farioli-Vecchioli S, 2014, STEM CELLS; Faul M., 2010, TRAUMATIC BRAIN INJU; Frinchi M, 2008, NEUROSCI LETT, V447, P20, DOI 10.1016-j.neulet.2008.09.059; Geissler M, 2011, PLOS ONE, V6, DOI 10.1371-journal.pone.0020194; Goldmann T, 2013, NAT NEUROSCI, V16, P1618, DOI 10.1038-nn.3531; Harting MT, 2009, J NEUROSURG, V110, P1189, DOI 10.3171-2008.9.JNS08158; Hebert LE, 2013, NEUROLOGY, V80, P1778, DOI 10.1212-WNL.0b013e31828726f5; Imayoshi I, 2010, J NEUROSCI, V30, P3489, DOI 10.1523-JNEUROSCI.4987-09.2010; Kempermann G, 2012, NAT REV NEUROSCI, V13, P727, DOI 10.1038-nrn3319; Kim SS, 2010, MOL THER, V18, P993, DOI 10.1038-mt.2010.27; KIRSCHENBAUM B, 1994, CEREB CORTEX, V4, P576, DOI 10.1093-cercor-4.6.576; Kohman RA, 2013, BRAIN BEHAV IMMUN, V27, P22, DOI 10.1016-j.bbi.2012.09.003; Kole AJ, 2011, GENE DEV, V25, P125, DOI 10.1101-gad.1975411; Koo JW, 2010, P NATL ACAD SCI USA, V107, P2669, DOI 10.1073-pnas.0910658107; Lam PK, 2013, J CLIN NEUROSCI, V20, P300, DOI 10.1016-j.jocn.2012.03.028; Lee EJ, 2011, RNA, V17, P1090, DOI 10.1261-rna.2565011; Li XY, 2009, HUM REPROD, V24, P580, DOI 10.1093-humrep-den404; Lim HS, 2013, BIOMOL THER, V21, P447, DOI 10.4062-biomolther.2013.041; Loi Manila, 2014, Front Endocrinol (Lausanne), V5, P13, DOI 10.3389-fendo.2014.00013; Ma HY, 2012, NEUROCHEM RES, V37, P69, DOI 10.1007-s11064-011-0584-1; Makeyev EV, 2007, MOL CELL, V27, P435, DOI 10.1016-j.molcel.2007.07.015; Maldonado-Soto AR, 2014, AM J PHYS MED REHABI; Mandal PK, 2011, NAT REV MOL CELL BIO, V12, P198, DOI 10.1038-nrm3060; Marin-Teva JL, 2004, NEURON, V41, P535, DOI 10.1016-S0896-6273(04)00069-8; Martin-Ibanez R, 2008, HUM REPROD, V23, P2744, DOI 10.1093-humrep-den316; Martin-Ibanez R, 2009, CURR PROTOC STEM CEL; Monier A, 2006, J COMP NEUROL, V499, P565, DOI 10.1002-cne.21123; Nakajima Kazuyuki, 2004, Curr Drug Targets Cardiovasc Haematol Disord, V4, P65, DOI 10.2174-1568006043481284; National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, 2014, PARK DIS HOP RES; National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke, 2014, MULT SCL HOP RES; Ng SY, 2012, EMBO J, V31, P522, DOI 10.1038-emboj.2011.459; Pastrana E, 2009, P NATL ACAD SCI USA, V106, P6387, DOI 10.1073-pnas.0810407106; Pincus DW, 1998, ANN NEUROL, V43, P576, DOI 10.1002-ana.410430505; Rajasethupathy P, 2012, CELL, V149, P693, DOI 10.1016-j.cell.2012.02.057; Ramos-Rodriguez JJ, 2014, PLOS ONE, V9, DOI 10.1371-journal.pone.0089229; Rizvanov AA, 2011, EXP BIOL MED, V236, P91, DOI 10.1258-ebm.2010.010172; Salthouse TA, 2009, NEUROBIOL AGING, V30, P507, DOI 10.1016-j.neurobiolaging.2008.09.023; Sawada Masato, 2013, Keio Journal of Medicine, V62, P13, DOI 10.2302-kjm.2012-0005-RE; Sierra A, 2010, CELL STEM CELL, V7, P483, DOI 10.1016-j.stem.2010.08.014; Silvestroff L, 2013, ASN NEURO, V5, P43, DOI 10.1042-AN20120075; Taylor SR, 2013, J NEUROSURG-PEDIATR, V12, P545, DOI 10.3171-2013.8.PEDS13154; Tropepe V, 1997, J NEUROSCI, V17, P7850; Ueno M, 2013, NAT NEUROSCI, V16, P543, DOI 10.1038-nn.3358; van Praag H, 2002, NATURE, V415, P1030, DOI 10.1038-4151030a; Verney C, 2010, J ANAT, V217, P436, DOI 10.1111-j.1469-7580.2010.01245.x; Visvanathan J, 2007, GENE DEV, V21, P744, DOI 10.1101-gad.1519107; Walker PA, 2009, DIS MODEL MECH, V2, P23, DOI 10.1242-dmm.001198; Wang XL, 2013, BRAIN RES, V1518, P26, DOI 10.1016-j.brainres.2013.04.038; Watanabe K, 2007, NAT BIOTECHNOL, V25, P681, DOI 10.1038-nbt1310; Wolf Y, 2013, FRONT CELL NEUROSCI, V7, DOI 10.3389-fncel.2013.00026; Xu X, 2010, BIOTECHNOL PROGR, V26, P781, DOI 10.1002-btpr.358; Zhang Z, 2006, CELL MOL BIOL LETT, V11, P12, DOI 10.2478-s11658-006-0002-x10

Review of meningococcal vaccines with updates on immunization in adults
Meningococcal disease is a serious and global life-threatening disease. Six serogroups (A, B, C, W-135, X, and Y) account for the majority of meningococcal disease worldwide. Meningococcal polysaccharide vaccines were introduced several decades ago and have led to the decline in the burden of disease. However, polysaccharide vaccines have several limitations, including poor immunogenicity in infants and toddlers, short-lived protection, lack of immunologic memory, negligible impact on nasopharyngeal carriage, and presence of hyporesponsiveness after repeated doses. The chemical conjugation of plain polysaccharide vaccines has the potential to overcome these drawbacks. Meningococcal conjugate vaccines include the quadrivalent vaccines (MenACWY-DT, Men-ACWY-CRM, and MenACWY-TT) as well as the monovalent A and C vaccines. These conjugate vaccines were shown to elicit strong immune response in adults. This review addresses the various aspects of meningococcal disease, the limitations posed by polysaccharide vaccines, the different conjugate vaccines with their immunogenicity and reactogenicity in adults, and the current recommendations in adults. © 2014 Landes Bioscience.Al-Tawfiq JA, 2012, EUROSURVEILLANCE, V17, P6; Al-Tawfiq JA, 2010, J TRAVEL MED, V17, P3, DOI 10.1111-j.1708-8305.2010.00448.x; [Anonymous], 2012, SUMM PROD CHAR NIM E; [Anonymous], 2011, WKLY EPIDEMIOL REC, V86, P521; [Anonymous], 2013, WKLY EPIDEMIOL REC, V88, P129; [Anonymous], 2013, GREEN BOOK, P235; [Anonymous], 2012, SUMM PROD CHAR MENJ; [Anonymous], 2013, UNLICENSED VACCINE P; [Anonymous], 2013, MEN MEN INF SHEET HL; [Anonymous], 2013, U PROVIDES MENINGITI; [Anonymous], 2012, SUMM PROD CHAR MEN; Aplasca-De Los Reyes MR, 2012, HUM VACC IMMUNOTHER, V8, P881, DOI 10.4161-hv.20212; ARMAND J, 1982, J BIOL STAND, V10, P335, DOI 10.1016-S0092-1157(82)80010-3; Artenstein AW, 2012, VACCINE, V30, P4701, DOI 10.1016-j.vaccine.2012.04.024; Baltimore RS, 2006, CURR OPIN PEDIATR, V18, P58, DOI 10.1097-01.mop.0000193265.78506.7f; Barnett ED, 2013, VACCINES, P1270; Bermal N, 2011, HUM VACCINES, V7, P239, DOI 10.4161-hv.7.2.14068; Bilukha O, 2007, PEDIATR INFECT DIS J, V26, P371, DOI 10.1097-01.inf.0000259996.95965.ef; Borja-Tabora C, 2013, BMC INFECT DIS, V13, DOI 10.1186-1471-2334-13-116; Borrow R, 2009, TRAVEL MED INFECT DI, V7, P219, DOI 10.1016-j.tmaid.2009.05.003; Borrow R, 2000, VACCINE, V19, P1129, DOI 10.1016-S0264-410X(00)00317-0; Bridges CB, 2013, MMWR SURVEILL SUMM, V62, P9; Broderick MP, 2012, EMERG INFECT DIS, V18, P1430, DOI 10.3201-eid1809.120257; Broker M, 2010, TRAVEL MED INFECT DI, V8, P47, DOI 10.1016-j.tmaid.2009.12.001; Brouwer MC, 2010, CLIN MICROBIOL REV, V23, P467, DOI 10.1128-CMR.00070-09; Cadoz M, 1998, VACCINE, V16, P1391, DOI 10.1016-S0264-410X(98)00097-8; Fang Jing, 2011, Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report, V60, P1377; Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), 2011, MMWR-MORBID MORTAL W, V60, P1009; Farley M.
