Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. No full textWe have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used

No full textPopulärvetenskaplig sammanfattning: Utanför Buahalvön, strax norr om Varberg, ligger ön Norra Horten. Undersökningen av bergarterna på ön visar att dessa har bildats då en oceanplatta tryckts ner under en kontinentalplatta och djupt liggande bergarter smälts upp och bildat en magma. Magman har senare trängt upp i jordskorpan och kristalliserat. När magman kommit upp har den i sin tur smält delar av det granitiska sidoberget, som trängt in i sprickor i bergarterna och bildat grovkorniga gångar, så kallade pegmatiter. Norra Horten består av i huvudsak två bergarter, metagabbro och hornbländit. Gemensamt för de båda bergarterna är att de består till stora delar av de mörka järn- och magnesiumrika mineralen amfibol och pyroxen. Metagabbro innehåller även en del plagioklas. Prover av bergarterna visar på att hornbländiten är ett kumulat av metagabbron, det vill säga att hornbländiten var en del av samma magma men kristalliserade tidigare och har då också fått en något annorlunda mineralsammansättning. Gångar av en ljusgrå finkornig bergart förekommer också på ön, dessa är en restsmälta av metagabbron. För ungefär 1000 miljoner år sedan krockade berggrunden i den sydvästra delen av Sverige med en annan kontinent. Bergarterna på Norra Horten blev då nerpressade och utsatta för förhöjda tryck och temperaturer vilket omvandlade dem. Vid omvandlingen bildades nya mineral, bland annat granat. Berggrunden blev senare upplyft, vilket medförde en sänkning av tryck och temperatur, och ytterliggare omvandling bergarterna då andra mineral bildades.I Mylonitzonen, strax utanfor Buahalvön ligger Norra Horten, en mantelderiverad mafit som intruderat i samband med uppsmältingsprocesser relaterade till en östliga subduktionshändelse mellan 1.69-1.55 Ga. Intrusionen består av två huvudbergarter, metagabbro och hornbländit. Hornbländiten är ett kumulat av metagabbron. Kumulatets kemiska sammansättning pekar på att en fraktionering av olivin föregått ackumuleringen av hornbländiten. Hornbländiten består till största delen av amfiboler och en del pyroxen samt små mängder kvarts och apatit. Metagabbron består av amfibol, plagioklas, kvarts och granat. En stor del av amfibolen i de båda bergarterna är primär. En restsmälta av metagabbron återfinns som gångar av mafisk aplit. En kraftigt omvandlad bergart med stora granater, granatamfibolit, återfinns i lösa block. Granatamfiboliten består av biotit, plagioklas, ortoamfibol, järn- och titanoxider samt mörkröda upptill l dm stora granater. I granaterna återfinns en avblandningsfas, i form av mycket tunna orienterade rutilnålar. Vid intrusionen av den mafiska smältan har sidoberget smält upp och trängt in (backveining) i intrusionen som pegmatiter. Under den Svekonorvegiska orogenesen och utbildandet av Mylonitzonen har Norra Horten blivit utsatt för metamorfos med inverkan av fluider, samt marginell deformation. Bergarterna har metamorfoserats i övre amfibolit- till granulitfacies. Bergarterna har senare retrograderats i grönskifferfacies.In the Mylonite zone, south of the Bua peninsula lies Norra Horten, a mantle derived mafic body that intruded in association with melting processes related to eastward subduction between 1.69-1.55 Ga. The intrusion consists of two main rock types, metagabbro and hornblendite. The hornblendite is a cumulate of the metagabbro. The cumulate´s chemical composition suggests that a fractionation of olivine preceded the accumulation of the hornblendite. The hornblendite consists mainly of amphibole, some clinopyroxene and minor amounts of quartz and apatite. The metagabbro contains amphibole, plagioclase, quartz and garnet. A large part of the amphibole in both rock types is of primary igneous origin. A rest-melt of the metagabbro formed dykes of mafic aplite. A third rock type, garnet amphibolite, occurs in locally derived blocks in a slope beneath an old quarry. The garnet amphibolite consists of biotite, plagioclase, orthoamphibole, iron and titanium oxides and deeply red garnet, in sizes up to 1 decimetre. Exsolution textures in the form of very thin orientated needles of rutile occur in the garnet. At the time of intrusion the surrounding rock melted and backveined the mafic intrusion as pegmatites. During the Sveconorwegian orogeny and the development of the Mylonite zone, Norra Horten was metamorphosed under the influence of fluids and minor deformation. The rocks were metamorphosed in upper amphibolite to granulite facies, and during uplift, retrograded in greenschist facies
