The alexanderi group This group of species is characterized by wing with section R 4 –R 5 longer than twice length of section R 5 –M 1, and second palpal segment inserted dorsally on first, forming an angle. Hypandrium with posterior margin rounded, slightly narrowed medially; cercus same length or longer than gonocoxite; spermathecae bottle shaped with a rounded base and a narrow and elongated apex. All species of this group were described in the genus Lastauroides, which was synonymized with Neodiogmites by Artigas & Papavero (1988). During this review we found new characters that, in addition those proposed by Carrera (1949), allow us to separate these species in a group inside Neodiogmites.Published as part of Alvim, Edgar, Ale-Rocha, Rosaly & Bravo, Freddy, 2014, Taxonomic revision of Neodiogmites Carrera, 1949 (Diptera, Asilidae) and description of two new species, pp. 101-126 in Zootaxa 3861 (2) on page 112, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.3861.2.1, http://zenodo.org/record/22679

Neodiogmites melaleucus (Schiner, 1868) Dasypogon melaleucus Schiner, 1868, 165. Lastauroides melaleucus; Martins & Papavero 1970: 29 (catalog). We were not able to study this species because only the type is known and cannot be borrowed for a more detailed study. However, the examination of the photographs of the type, generously provided by Dr. Marion Kotrba, Museum Zoologische Staatssammlung München, suggests that the current generic position of this species is questionable. Nevertheless, we retain it in Neodiogmites until the type is studied.Published as part of Alvim, Edgar, Ale-Rocha, Rosaly & Bravo, Freddy, 2014, Taxonomic revision of Neodiogmites Carrera, 1949 (Diptera, Asilidae) and description of two new species, pp. 101-126 in Zootaxa 3861 (2) on page 112, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.3861.2.1, http://zenodo.org/record/22679

The melanogaster group Species in this group are characterized by the following set of characters: second segment of palpus inserted on apex of first segment, length of postpedicel less than twice length of scape and pedicel combined, palpus segmentation visible and wing with section R 4 –R 5 less than twice section R 5 –M 1. Hypandrium with posterior margin narrowed and elongated medially, cercus shorter than gonocoxite, spermathecae fusiform with semispherical apex. Four species are included: N. carrerai; N. melanogaster; N. tenebrosus and N. carolindae sp. nov.Published as part of Alvim, Edgar, Ale-Rocha, Rosaly & Bravo, Freddy, 2014, Taxonomic revision of Neodiogmites Carrera, 1949 (Diptera, Asilidae) and description of two new species, pp. 101-126 in Zootaxa 3861 (2) on page 103, DOI: 10.11646/zootaxa.3861.2.1, http://zenodo.org/record/22679

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
