    Deep Learning and identification of Cancer Related Sub-networks

    The breast cancer survival rate has improved significantly between 1975 and 2003. The primary improvement in treatment is due to subtyping, where the high complexity cancers are divided in types of cancer and subgroups. In a study by Dr. Parker it was found that by looking at mRNA only, the intrinsic subtypes of breast cancer could be identified. In our work we will create images out of gene expressions, which we use to train a convolutional neural network to classify the created images on cancer subgroup. This report describes an analysis of using convolutional neural networks on images created using the correlations between gene expressions. We focused on using deep learning to identify cancer related gene-gene interaction sub-networks. Prior research has shown that using gene expression assays can be used to improve classification of subtypes of cancer. We created two dimensional images, preserving the correlations between genes as distances in the image and used convolutional neural networks to classify the sub-types.     Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Construction of Pseudo CRS frontier for a negative data using RTS model of Allahyar & A modified multiplier BCC model

    Performance measurement of Decision Making Units (DMU) possessing an array of positive and negative type of input and output data has been an extensively researched topic in Data Envelopment Analysis. However, assessment of Returns to Scale (RTS) under negative data problem has only been attainable after the deliberation of a Variable Returns to Scale assumption. Steps referred earlier were indeed purported a solution around the vicinity of the Decision Making Unit under examination to predict the nature of the Returns to Scale of a firm. The extant investigation extends the research of Allahyar and Malkhalifeh [Comput. Ind. Eng. 82 (2015) 78–81] to identify a Pseudo Constant Returns to Scale Frontier for a negative data problem along with the new origin based on the provided data. However, this approach seems to be ineffective to create a frontier for multiple input output scenario. In this regard, a new variation of Multiplier form of BCC model is proposed here to detect the new origin for the sake of designing the Pseudo CRS frontier. Small examples are added for the elaboration of the CRS efficient DMUs using methods described by Allahyar and Malkhalifeh [Comput. Ind. Eng. 82 (2015) 78–81] to identify the new origin from the Multiplier form of BCC model. This outcome is finally validated with the aid of the multiplier model of Sahoo et al. [Eur. J. Oper. Res. 255 (2016) 545–558]

    Prevalence of bovine tuberculosis in buffaloes in Hyderabad and Tando Allahyar districts of Sindh province, Pakistan

    Bovine tuberculosis commonly called TB, is caused by bacilli Mycobacterium bovis (M. bovis), a potential zoonotic pathogen that seems to cause direct economic losses other than single microbial agent on livestock and indirect impact on human health. An investigation of bovine tuberculosis in buffaloes was carried out in Hyderabad and Tando Allahyar districts to determine the prevalence of bovine tuberculosis. The buffaloes (n=120), were first screened through single intradermal tuberculin test (SITT) and both positive and negative reactors of SITT were used for enzyme linked immunosorbent assay (ELISA). Attempts were further made to isolate the M. bovis organism from the milk samples using traditional culture test. Overall prevalence of 4.16%, 8.33% and 2.5% was recorded by SITT, ELISA and culture test respectively. A somewhat higher prevalence was recorded in Tando Allahyar district (SITT 6.66%; ELISA 10%; culture test 5%) as compared to Hyderabad district (SITT 1.66%; ELISA 6.66%; culture test 0%). The statistical analysis did not showed any association (P>0.05) of herd size, sex, age, milk yield and type of farming with the disease, regardless of district, whereas, sex, age and milk yield showed significant (P<0.05) association with the disease through SITT in Tando Allayer district. This study concluded that bovine tuberculosis is present in apparently healthy buffalo herds of Hyderabad and Tando Allayer districts. Moreover, infected animals shed the M. bovis pathogen in milk that could be a potential hazard to public health

    Population Density of Grey Francolin (Franclinus Pondicrianus L.) in District Tando Allahyar, Sindh, Pakistan

    The population density of Grey Francolin (Franclinus pondicrianus L.) is distributed throughout the Baluchistan, KPK, Punjab, and Indus plains of Sindh Province, Pakistan. The grey francolin is a prime game bird of our country. This species has been declared threatened worldwide according to the Red Data Book, also published by the International Union for Conservation of Nature in 2018. There is no information available regarding the density of the population of Grey francolin in different populations in the district of Tando Allahyar, Sindh, Pakistan. Keeping this in mind, the present study was carried out to find the density population of Grey francolin birds in the habitat area to observe the conservation measurements. The study was conducted through direct sighting with the help of local residents of the particular areas using the Visual Encounter Method. The observations were recorded at three fixed transects, with a length of 300 to 350 m and a width of 30 to 60 m laid down at every site for recording the birds by nearest line. In Tando Allahyar, Sindh, Pakistan, the population density of Grey francolin varies significantly based on breeding practices and habitat characteristics. The observed densities were 0.90 birds per hectare in cultivated open land and 0.16 birds per hectare in wetland and associated natural vegetation. This suggests a notable influence of habitat and breeding practices on Grey francolin populations
