Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
Rekonstruksi kepemimpinan Profetik dan relevansinya dengan kepemimpinan Pendidikan Islam: Studi kisah Nabi Yusuf, Nabi Musa, dan Nabi Sulaiman dalam Al-Qur’an
ABSTRAK
Kepemimpinan sebagai intisari manajemen, memiliki fungsi, peranan, dan pengaruh yang sangat besar terhadap keberadaan, kemajuan, dan keunggulan lembaga pendidikan Islam. Eksis-tidaknya, maju-mundurnya dan unggul-rendahnya lembaga pendidikan Islam sangat ditentukan oleh kualitas kepemimpinannya. Tapi, kepemimpinan pendidikan Islam mengalami krisis kepemimpinan yang terklasifikasi menjadi empat, yaitu leadership, manajerial, karakter, dan nilai. Di sisi lain, kepemimpinan profetik yang sebagai jawaban atas masalah tersebut, yaitu atribut kepemimpinan profetik (fathanah, shidq, tabligh, fathanah) itu rancu dan tumpang tindih dengan kepemimpinan spiritual (Spiritual Leadership) versi Islam dan kepemimpinan Islam (Islamic Leadership).
Penelitian ini memfokuskan pada rekonstruksi dan relevansi kepemimpinan profetik Nabi Yusuf, Nabi Musa, dan Nabi Sulaiman dalam Al-Qur’an dengan kepemimpinan pendidikan Islam, dengan pertanyaan: 1. Bagaimana rekonstruksi kepemimpinan profetik Nabi Yusuf, Nabi Musa, dan Nabi Sulaiman dalam Al-Qur’an? 2. Bagaimana kondisi kepemimpinan pendidikan Islam Indonesia? dan 3. Bagaimana relevansi rekonstruksi kepemimpinan profetik Nabi Yusuf, Nabi Musa, dan Nabi Sulaiman dalam Al-Qur’an dengan kepemimpinan pendidikan Islam Indonesia?
Penelitian ini merupakan jenis riset perpustakaan (library research). Riset ini memberdayakan pendekatan naratif bertipe analisis tematik (thematic analysis) untuk studi biografi (biographical study) dan sejarah kehidupan (life history). Teknik pengumpulan data berupa dokumentasi, terutama melibatkan kitab pencarian ayat Al-Qur’an, tafsir Al-Qur’an, dan literatur kepemimpinan. Teknik analisis data mengacu pada analisis isi kualitatif (qualitative content analysis) Philipp Mayring dan Muhammad Abid al-Jabiri. Pengecekan keabsahan data dilakukan melalui adaptasi dari Klaus Krippendorff dan Philipp Mayring, yakni realibilitas konsistensi dan validitas semantik dan konstruk.
Hasil penelitian ini adalah: pertama, studi kisah Nabi Yusuf, Nabi Musa, dan Nabi Sulaiman dalam Al-Qur’an menemukan tigapuluh satu (31) atribut sifat kepemimpinan profetik yang merupakan hasil rekonstruksi dan terklasifikasi menjadi sebelas aspek/komponen, yaitu motif khalifah [خليفة/خلافة], karakteristik fisik [Fisik yang Baik (جَمَالٌ/جَمِيْلٌ), Fisik yang Kuat (قُوَّةٌ/قَوِيٌّ)], pengetahuan [Cerdas (فَطَانَةٌ/فَاطِنٌ), Berilmu-pengetahuan (عِلْمٌ/عَلِيْمٌ)], kepribadian [Peminta Maaf (أواب/أوب), Berbakti kepada Orangtua (بَرّ/بِرّ), Mulia (كَرَمٌ/كَرِيْمٌ), Berpengaruh (مَكَانَةٌ/مَكِيْنٌ), Pribadi yang Baik (صالح/صلاح)], kecakapan/keterampilan [Terpercaya (أَمَانَةٌ/أَمِيْنٌ), Penjaga (حِفْظٌ/حَفِيْظٌ), Pembuat Keputusan (حُكْمٌ/حَاكِمٌ), Bijaksana (حِكْمَةٌ/حَكِيْمٌ), Kerja optimal (إِحْسَانٌ/مُحْسِنٌ), Pejuang (مجاهد/جهاد), Inovator (مجدّد/تجديد), Inisiator Perbaikan (إِصْلَاحٌ/مُصْلِحٌ), Konsisten (مستقيم/استقامة), Adil (عادل/عدل)], manajerial [مدير/إدارة], kewirausahaan [عامل/عمل], sosial [Komunikatif (تَبْلِيْغٌ/مُبَلِّغٌ), Rendah Hati (متواضع/تواضع), Pemaaf (عافٍ/عفْو)], supervisi [مراقب/مراقبة], nilai [صَادِق/صِدْق], dan kerja hati [Bersandar pada Tuhan (تَوَكَّلٌ/مُتَوَكِّلٌ), Memurnikan Amal (إِخْلَاصٌ/مُخْلِصٌ), Apresiator (شُكْرٌ/شَاكِرٌ), dan Tahan Banting (صَبْرٌ/صَابِرٌ)]. Kedua, kondisi kepemimpinan pendidikan Islam mengalami krisis kepemimpinan yang terklasifikasi menjadi empat, yaitu leadership, manajerial, karakter, dan nilai. Ketiga, rekonstruksi kepemimpinan profetik mempunyai relevansi dengan kepemimpinan pendidikan Islam Indonesia. Relevansinya itu terletak pada segi tata nilai profetik pada diri pemimpin (input values) dan yang menjiwai atau memberikan spirit pelaksanaan tugas pokok dan fungsi kepemimpinan (process values).
Berdasarkan temuan substantif di atas, maka temuan formal penelitian ini adalah Integrative Prophetic Leadership.
ABSTRACT
Leadership as the essence of management, has a very large function, role, and influence on the existence, progress, and excellence of Islamic educational institutions. The existence or failure of Islamic educational institutions is determined by the quality of their leadership. However, Islamic education leadership is experiencing a leadership crisis which is classified into four, namely leadership, managerial, character, and values. On the other hand, prophetic leadership which is the answer to this problem, namely the attributes of prophetic leadership (fathanah, shidq, tabligh, fathanah) is ambiguous and overlaps with the Islamic version of spiritual leadership and Islamic leadership.
This study focuses on the reconstruction and relevance of the prophetic leadership of Prophet Yusuf, Prophet Musa, and Prophet Sulaiman in the Qur'an with Islamic educational leadership, with the questions: 1. How is the reconstruction of the prophetic leadership of Prophet Yusuf, Prophet Musa, and Prophet Sulayman in the Qur'an? 2. How is the condition of Indonesian Islamic education leadership? and 3. What is the relevance of the reconstruction of the prophetic leadership of Prophet Yusuf, Prophet Musa, and Prophet Sulaiman in the Qur'an with the leadership of Indonesian Islamic education?
This research is a type of library research. This research empowers a narrative approach with thematic analysis type for biographical studies and life history. Data collection techniques were in the form of documentation, especially involving the search for verses of the Qur'an, interpretations of the Qur'an, and leadership literature. The data analysis technique refers to Philipp Mayring and Muhammad Abid al-Jabiri's qualitative content analysis. Checking the validity of the data was carried out through adaptations from Klaus Krippendorff and Philipp Mayring, namely the reliability of consistency and semantic and construct validity.
The results of this study are: first, a study of the stories of Prophet Yusuf, Prophet Musa, and Prophet Sulaiman in the Qur'an found thirty one (31) attributes of prophetic leadership which were the result of reconstruction and classified into eleven aspects/components, namely the caliph motive [خليفة/خلافة], physical characteristics [Good Physique (جَمَالٌ/جَمِيْلٌ), Strong Physical (قُوَّةٌ/قَوِيٌّ)], knowledge [Intelligent (فَطَانَةٌ/فَاطِنٌ), Knowledgeable (عِلْمٌ/عَلِيْمٌ)], personality [Apologizing (أواب/أوب), Dutiful to parents (بَرّ/بِرّ), Glorious (كَرَمٌ/كَرِيْمٌ), Influential (مَكَانَةٌ/مَكِيْنٌ), Good Person (صالح/صلاح)], proficiency/skill [Trusted (أَمَانَةٌ/أَمِيْنٌ), Guard (حِفْظٌ/حَفِيْظٌ), Decision makers (حُكْمٌ/حَاكِمٌ), wise (حِكْمَةٌ/حَكِيْمٌ), Optimum work (إِحْسَانٌ/مُحْسِنٌ), Warrior (مجاهد/جهاد), Innovator (مجدّد/تجديد), Repair Initiator (إِصْلَاحٌ/مُصْلِحٌ), Consistent (مستقيم/استقامة), Fair (عادل/عدل)], managerial [مدير/إدارة], entrepreneurship [عامل/عمل], social [Communicative (تَبْلِيْغٌ/مُبَلِّغٌ), Humble (متواضع/تواضع), Forgiveness (عافٍ/عفْو)], supervision [مراقب/ مراقبة], mark [صَادِق/صِدْق], and the work of the heart [Rely on God (تَوَكَّلٌ/مُتَوَكِّلٌ), Purify Charity (إِخْلَاصٌ/مُخْلِصٌ), Appreciator (شُكْرٌ/شَاكِرٌ), and Hardiness (صَبْرٌ/صَابِرٌ)]. Second, the condition of Islamic education leadership is experiencing a leadership crisis which is classified into four, namely leadership, managerial, character, and values. Third, the reconstruction of prophetic leadership has relevance to the leadership of Indonesian Islamic education. The relevance lies in the aspects of the prophetic values of the leader (input values) and which animate or provide the spirit of carrying out the main tasks and leadership functions (process values).
Based on the substantive findings above, the formal findings of this study are Integrative Prophetic Leadership.

هذا البحث هو نوع من البحث في المكتبات. يمكّن هذا البحث نهجًا سرديًا مع نوع التحليل الموضوعي لدراسات السيرة الذاتية وتاريخ الحياة. كانت تقنيات جمع البيانات في شكل توثيق، ولا سيما البحث عن آيات من القرآن، وتفسيرات القرآن، وأدب القيادة. تشير تقنية تحليل البيانات إلى تحليل المحتوى النوعي لفيليب مايرنج ومحمد عابد الجابري. تم إجراء التحقق من صحة البيانات من خلال تعديلات من كلاوس كريبندورف وفيليب مايرنج، وهي موثوقية الاتساق والدلالات وصلاحية البناء.
نتائج هذه الدراسة هي: أولاً، وجدت دراسة قصص النبي يوسف والنبي موسى والنبي سليمان في القرآن إحدى وثلاثين صفة للقيادة النبوية نتجت عن إعادة البناء وتم تصنيفها إلى أحد عشر جانبًا/عنصرًا، أي دافع الخليفة, جَمِيْلٌ، قَوِيٌّ، فَاطِنٌ، عَلِيْمٌ, أواب،كَرِيْمٌ، مَكِيْنٌ، صالح،أَمِيْنٌ، حَفِيْظٌ، حَاكِمٌ، حَكِيْمٌ، مُحْسِنٌ، مجاهد، مجدّد، مُصْلِحٌ، مستقيم, عادل، مدير، عامل، مُبَلِّغٌ، متواضع, عافٍ، مراقب، صَادِق, مُتَوَكِّلٌ، مُخْلِصٌ، شَاكِرٌ, و صابِرٌ. ثانيًا، أن حالة قيادة التربية الإسلامية تشهد أزمة في القيادة، وهي تنقسم إلى أربعة ، وهي: القيادة، والإدارة، والشخصية، والقيم. ثالثًا، لإعادة بناء القيادة النبوية أهمية لقيادة التعليم الإسلامي الإندونيسي. تكمن الأهمية في جوانب القيم النبوية للقائد (قيم المدخلات) والتي تحرك أو توفر روح تنفيذ المهام الرئيسية والوظائف القيادية (قيم العملية).
بناءً على النتائج الجوهرية أعلاه ، فإن النتائج الرسمية لهذه الدراسة هي القيادة النبوية التكاملية
