Die noodsaak van Skrifgefundeerde vaderskap as antwoord op die voortslepende probleem van vaderafwesigheid in Suid-Afrika

    No full text
The absence of any parent in a family system causes a vacuum with respect to the parenting role and it affects the family's ability to function effectively. In the South African context father absence is on the increase and it frequently generates problems such as broken families, undesirable and aggressive behaviour among children, single parenting, financial and social problems as well as poverty. The role of the father and his physical presence are of utmost importance in the life of children because his fatherhood role contributes to the child's cognitive development and intellectual functioning. The author views this problem of father absence as a matter of seriousness and concern, thus the cry for the Bible as a possible solution. In this article it appears and becomes clear that a Sola Scriptura policy is being used. The article therefore focuses on Biblical truth and departure points from literature to highlight the importance of fatherhood. Scripture is not just an authoritative source of teaching, correction and admonition but also serves as an exceptional guideline and measure that speak of the uniqueness of God as Father, while presenting answers regarding the worth of an earthly father within a family system.

The certified thesis is available in the Institute Archives and Special Collections.Cataloged from student-submitted PDF version of thesis.Includes bibliographical references (pages 67-69).Instructors use software called learning management systems to administer online courses. Traditionally these digital platforms mimic physical classrooms, but technology opens up potential for new types of interactions. In this thesis, we develop a learning management system on top of Git to create a learning environment that encourages collaboration and exploration. We discuss how it was designed, the underlying pedagogy, the technical implementation, and the results of a pilot online class, with 100 learners lasting 6 weeks. The platform architecture developed in this project can be replicated and reused for other online courses with similar goals.by Vahid Fazel-Rezai.M. Eng

It has been suggested that these populations do not access psychiatric treatment. The aim of this study was to establish rates of psychiatric in- and outpatient treatments prior to imprisonment in female prisoners and to explore reasons for discontinuation of such treatments.Methods150 consecutively admitted female prisoners were interviewed in Berlin, Germany. Socio-demographic characteristics, mental disorders, and previous psychiatric in- and outpatient treatments were assessed by trained researchers. Open questions were used to explore reasons for ending previous psychiatric treatment.ResultsA vast majority of 99 prisoners (66%; 95% CI: 58¿73) of the total sample reported that they had previously been in psychiatric treatment, 80 (53%; 95 CI: 45¿61) in inpatient treatment, 62 (41%; 95 CI: 34¿49) in outpatient treatment and 42 (29%; 21¿39) in both in- and outpatient treatments. All prisoners with psychosis and 72% of the ones with any lifetime mental health disorder had been in previous treatment. The number of inpatient treatments and imprisonments were positively correlated (rho¿=¿0.27; p¿<¿0.01). Inpatient treatment was described as successfully completed by 56% (N¿=¿41) of those having given reasons for ending such treatment, whilst various reasons were reported for prematurely ending outpatient treatments.ConclusionThe data do not support the notion of a general `mental health treatment gap¿ in female prisoners. Although inpatient care is often successfully completed, repeated inpatient treatments are not linked with fewer imprisonments. Improved transition from inpatient to outpatient treatment and services that engage female prisoners to sustained outpatient treatments are needed

Cultures of memory within italophone migration literature

This master's thesis examines memory cultures within italophone migration literature. Starting with a definition of the genre ‘migration literature and its current situation in Italy, it subsequently gives an overview of the most important stages of the development of memory theory, on which the research project of this thesis is based. Essentially, the author examines what and who is remembered, and how memories are formed in the selected works of the two Italo-Somali writers Shirin Ramzanali Fazel and Igiaba Scego. This in-text analysis examines the mimesis of individual and collective memories, as well as their contents, triggers and functions. In their short stories and novels, Fazel and Scego devote particular attention to themes such as migration and diaspora, Italian colonialism and postcolonialism, identity, transculturality and racism. In their works, memories are the point of origin to show historical and social similarities between the two countries Somalia and Italy. At the same time, they locate the past in the present. Fazel and Scego criticise Italy's way of dealing with its colonial past, which is characterised by oblivion and ignorance. According to the writers, today's racism and the neo-fascist tendencies of the Italian population result from this failure to deal with the past. To counteract this, Fazel and Scego engage in active remembrance work by pointing out personal and collective places of memory and giving an insight into life far from home or between several societies. They adopt a postcolonial stance by breaking away from the binary concept of colonised - colonist and consequently redefine social and national boundaries.vorgelegt von Christina Sophie Bäck, BAZusammenfassungen in Deutsch und EnglischAbweichender Titel laut Übersetzung des Verfassers/der VerfasserinMasterarbeit Karl-Franzens-Universität Graz 2021 2165

In this review, we explore Fazel Ebrihiam Freeks’ book titled Missional Fatherhood as Praxis to Christian Families Who Grapple with Father Absence: The Bible as Key Answer to This Issue. The book significantly expands upon the role of missional parenting, the missional father and father absence both from biblical perspectives and contemporary societal contexts. The author stresses the paramount importance of cultivating good relationships between spouses and between parents and their children, and how these relations impact the children’s health, safety and education and the cultural values and well-being of the entire family

    Lasiochalcidia rubripes

Lasiochalcidia rubripes (Kieffer, 1899) Euchalcis rubripes KIEFFER, 1899: 369. Original description ♀. France, Corsica; Masi 1916: 56–57. ITALY, GIgLIO ISLAND. Lasiochalcidia rubripes (KIEFFER): MASI 1929A: 209; BOUčEk 1949: 144; STEFFAN 1951b: 76; BOUčEk 1956: 246; STEFFAN 1966: 405–406. Material examined. Type material. Not found in MNHN. Other material. IRAN: Fars, Larestan, Nime, loc. 6, 12.i.2112, (1 ♀) (in CIRAD: GDEL 359). Comment. The type of E. rubripes is apparently lost because it could not be traced in any of the European Museums visited by GD. Unfortunately, the original description is unreliable for discriminating the species. It was firstly synonymized with L. cincticornis (Walker) by Steffan (1951b). Later, Bouček (1956) and Steffan (1966) recognized the two names as belonging to two different species. However, it seemed for some time that L. rubripes might be a junior synonym of L. cincticornis (Walker) because the two species were described from Corsica. A specimen, housed in MNHN, from the same island and identified as such by Steffan, can be taken as a reference for this latter species, the type of L. cincticornis being also lost. A specimen identified by Masi as E. rubripes, morphologically different from L. cincticornis, and housed in MCSN, would have been taken as reference for E. rubripes but it was collected in the island of Giglio (Masi 1916). Quite recently another female, morphologically identical with that identified by Masi, and here collected in Corsica (at Galéria), was found in the Bouček collection (in NMP). Hence, two different species actually inhabit Corsica and Masi's interpretation of the species is correct. Bouček (1956) and Steffan (1966) used the relative length of the syntergum for separating the females of L. rubripes and L. cincticornis but this character proved to be unreliable. The relative length of the basal flagellomeres, which is longer in the first species, is a better character. Furthermore, examination of the Bouček collection housed in the Prague Museum, proved that this author wrongly associated the two sexes. Actually the male of L. rubripes, not that of L. cinticornis, has a ventral tooth on the scape. Distribution. From the specimens examined by GD, the species is widely distributed in the Mediterranean Basin including Morocco, Spain, southern France, Italy and Egypt. This is a new record for the Iranian fauna. Template-free 2D particle fusion in localization microscopy

Methods that fuse multiple localization microscopy images of a single structure can improve signal-to-noise ratio and resolution, but they generally suffer from template bias or sensitivity to registration errors. We present a template-free particle-fusion approach based on an all-to-all registration that provides robustness against individual misregistrations and underlabeling. We achieved 3.3-nm Fourier ring correlation (FRC) image resolution by fusing 383 DNA origami nanostructures with 80% labeling density, and 5.0-nm resolution for structures with 30% labeling density.Green Open Access added to TU Delft Institutional Repository ‘You share, we take care!’ – Taverne project https://www.openaccess.nl/en/you-share-we-take-care Otherwise as indicated in the copyright section: the publisher is the copyright holder of this work and the author uses the Dutch legislation to make this work public.ImPhys/Quantitative ImagingImPhys/Imaging Physic

Variable Objects Introduction - Bound in A Nutshell: Shakespeare's Vibrant Matter

    No full text
When Ben Jonson summons Shakespeare in his famous poem, “To The Memory of My Beloved the Author, Mr. William Shakespeare,” and assures the late dramatist that he is “alive still while thy book doth live / And we have wits to read and praise to give,” Jonson affirms an authorial presence typical of the humanist approach to Shakespeare. More tantalizingly, however, Jonson invites us to think of the book as a living object, implying that the book has its own vitality and, by extension, as much agency as the very human WIlliam Shakespeare. This essay suggests the transmedial and transcultural history of Shakespeare combats the commonly-held assumption that there is a causal logic to appropriative acts, and seeks alternative ways to account for the logical networks that shape the way Shakespeare appears - seemingly unexpected - in a variety of objects as fragments - words, ideas, characters, scenes, poetry, narrative, and so much more. The introduction looks to new materialism, object-oriented ontology, and alien phenomenology to explore the consequences of reconceptualizing Shakespeare as composed of an infinite variety of discrete objects and suggest that these fragments activate a variable and unpredictable energy that fluctuates as they encounter other objects. Without the ordering presence of the author, fragments of Shakespeare’s work become agental objects, vibrant and dynamic, affective forces that spur a spectrum of appropriative uses. New materialism suggests that objects emanate their own intrinsic meaning, and accordingly, Shakespeare fragments upend theories that the driving force of the appropriation is the human user
