ABSTRACT
This thesis aims to study and examine further the role
of National Central Bureau (NCB)-Interpol Indonesia in
handling criminal cases of money laundering in
Indonesia. The case study highlighted was the case of
Muhammad Nazaruddin and the case of Bank Century bailout
involving two controlling shareholders, Rafat Ali
Rizvi and Hesham Al-Warraq. Both of these cases
illustrate two dimensions, namely the success of which
is illustrated by the success of NCB Interpol Indonesia
to repatriate Muhammad Nazaruddin, and failure is
illustrated by the failure of INCB Interpol ndonesia in
repatriating Rafat Ali Rizvi and Hesham al-Warraq.

Development of a Smart System for Leak Detection in Water Distribution Networks
A Master of Science thesis in Civil Engineering by Doha Hesham Elshazly entitled, “Development of a Smart System for Leak Detection in Water Distribution Networks”, submitted in December 2021. Thesis advisor is Dr. Tarig A. Ali and thesis co-advisor is Dr. Md. Mortula. Every year, a considerable portion of water is lost from water distribution networks (WDNs) due to leaks. This is accompanied by significant consequences including, economic losses and supply disruption, which are major concerns for water utility companies. Hence, a robust and timely leak detection method is necessary to conduct corrective maintenance so as to minimize the underlying consequences. Previous studies have investigated the efficiency and effectiveness of various nondestructive detection methods including ground penetrating radar (GPR), spectrometry, and infrared sensing. Based on the outcome of the recent research on leak detection using infrared sensing, this study aims to develop a smart leak detection system that integrates remote sensing and geographic information system (GIS). The proposed system is to be used by a drone, equipped with an infrared (IR) camera, and geospatial analysis tools that incorporate remote sensing and GIS for near-real time leak detection. In addition, this study utilizes currently installed pressure, flow and water quality monitoring sensors in WDNs. A GIS customized interface was developed to automate the leak detection system and allow for timely data processing. The proposed system was validated on a section of the WDN in the city of Sharjah, in collaboration with Sharjah Electricity and Water Authority (SEWA). Investigating the bioenergy potential of invasive Reed Canary (Phalaris arundinacea) through thermal and kinetic analyses
The thermal conversion of biomass plays an important role in the development of energy reaping technologies and fire engineering. The study investigates the bioenergy potential of Reed Canary (Phalaris arundinacea) through investigating the combustion kinetics and thermal behavior. Reed Canary samples were collected from various rural areas of Ontario, Canada. Four heating rates (10, 20, 30, and 40 °C min^−1) were utilized to perform the thermal degradation analysis using a thermogravimetric analyzer. Three different stages were identified ranging from 25 °C to 800 °C in which major degradation stage had two regions from 210 °C to 530 °C where most of the biomass changed into products. Furthermore, iso-conversional models including Kissenger-Akahira-Sunose (KSA), Starink and Flynn–Wall–Ozawa (FWO) were used to evaluate the reaction kinetics such as the activation energy and the pre-exponential factor. The reported kinetics parameters demonstrate the promising potential of Reed Canary for bioenergy production. Moreover, the low cost and the abundance of Reed Canary facilitate the possibility of introducing the biomass as a cost efficient and environmentally friendly natural resource for renewable bioenergy production
YAG Laser in the Treatment of Nail Psoriasis: Clinical and Dermoscopic Assessment
Background: The Nd:YAG laser has emerged as a promising modality for the management of nail psoriasis owing to its ability for deep penetration of the skin surface, which has the advantage of destroying deep vessels.
Objective: To assess the efficacy and safety of Nd:YAG laser in treating nail psoriasis.
Methods: The present study was a randomized controlled study, conducted on 20 patients of both sexes (age older than 12 years) with mild to moderate psoriasis with nail involvement. We utilized facial telangiectasia parameters of Nd:YAG laser and beam diameter of 2.5 mm. Laser energy started with 110 J/cm2 in the first session and 130 J/cm2 in the rest of the sessions. Sessions were performed once monthly for up to 6 sessions.
Results: We found no statistically significant difference in total Nail Psoriasis Severity Index (NAPSI) and nail bed scores before and after treatment among the treated group. However, there was statistically significant improvement in nail matrix score after treatment. On the other hand, the control group did not show any statistically significant changes for all scores throughout the study, except for the nail matrix score mean difference (0.35 ± 1.23 vs -1.00 ± 1.86 in the treated group). The degree of dermoscopic improvement was evident in the treated group (45% vs 25% in the control group). However, it was not statistically significant because of small sample size. The patients' satisfaction and the external investigator's assessment showed statistically significant negative correlation with total NAPSI mean difference in the treated group.
Conclusion: The role of Nd:YAG laser in nail psoriasis is still controversial

Synthesis of aryl pyrazole via Suzuki coupling reaction, in vitro mushroom tyrosinase enzyme inhibition assay and in silico comparative molecular docking analysis with Kojic acid
Aryl pyrazoles are well recognized class of heterocyclic compounds found in several commercially available drugs. Owing to their significance in medicinal chemistry, in this current account we have synthesized a series of suitably substituted aryl pyrazole by employing Suzuki cross-coupling reaction. All compounds were evaluated for inhibition of mushroom tyrosinase enzyme both in vitro and in silico. Compound 3f (IC 50 = 1.568 ± 0.01 µM) showed relatively better potential compared to reference kojic acid (IC 50 = 16.051 ± 1.27 µM). A comparative docking studies showed that compound 3f have maximum binding affinity against mushroom tyrosinase (PDBID: 2Y9X) with binding energy value (−6.90 kcal/mol) as compared to Kojic acid. The 4-methoxy group in compound 3f shows 100% interaction with Cu. Compound 3f displayed hydrogen binding interaction with His61 and His94 at distance of 1.71 and 1.74 Å which might be responsible for higher activity compared to Kojic acid.Fil: Channar, Pervaiz Ali. Narratives and outcomes of the uprisings in Syria and Bahrain
The narratives deployed by the political elites and the opposition groups in Syria and Bahrain has undergone a process of evolution since the onset of the Arab Spring. The examination of the cases of Syria and Bahrain is useful from a methodological perspective, since it enables us to determining the nuances that come about from the manner in which the Arab Spring unfolded in the region. This dissertation attempts to unite a diverse range of elements to present a comprehensive analysis of the nature of revolutionary consciousness, the nature of Arab transnational collective action movements in an era of globalization, and the mechanisms governing the evolutions of protest rhetoric. Automated Detection of Mind Wandering: A Mobile Application
There is growing interest in mindfulness-based training of attention. A particular challenge for novices is learning to sustain focused attention while ensuring that the mind does not wander. This paper presents the development of a tool for the automated detection of episodes of mind wandering (MW), on the basis of biosignals, while normal healthy participants engaged in brief mindfulness-based training (BMT) of attention. BMT required five 20-minute training sessions on consecutive days and entailed practice of breath-focused attention, a typical exercise in mindfulness-based techniques of stress-reduction. Heart rate, respiratory rate, electrodermal and electromyographic activity were measured, and participants pressed a button to indicate the subjective detection of MW during training. The data showed that BMT did not influence our measures of stress but BMT was effective in reducing the frequency of subjectively detected MW events. The algorithm for offline detection of MW achieved an accuracy of 85%. Based on this algorithm, a mobile application was developed for automated MW detection in real-time. The application requires the use of easily placeable sensors, provides a new approach to the real-time MW detection, and could be developed further for use in MW-related investigations and interventions (such as mindfulness-based training of focused attention)
