Is soccer a closed world ? Far from it, as shown by the May 1968 protest movement. Under the auspices of a group of protesting journalists belonging to Miroir du Football, a handful of players occupied the premises of the all-powerful French Football Federation, with demands concerning the status of soccer players, the organizational structures and the very concept of the game. No full textEn consacrant ce numéro hors-série de la Revue du Nord au football septentrional et à sa dimension populaire, les coordinateurs et contributeurs ici réunis entendent illustrer son processus d’enracinement, de structuration et d’expansion à partir d’approches originales. Elles s’inscrivent dans une historiographie dont Alfred Wahl avait, dès 1989, dessiné les premiers contours et auquel il convenait, par cette publication, de rendre un juste hommage.Privilégiant la longue durée (XIXe-XXIe), les textes proposés au lecteur abordent un certain nombre d’invariants : les instances, les clubs, les compétitions, les acteurs (joueurs, dirigeants, entraîneurs, arbitres et supporters), les stades. Mobilisant parfois des corpus originaux et privilégiant un regard ethnographique, ces textes confirment la place éminente du football dans la culture de masse des individus dès les années 1920, autant qu’ils soulignent ses éléments singuliers dans la France du Nord
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Get PDFThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
