    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    مستخلص البحث هناك عوامل خارجية تتعلق بجوانب المتعلمين النفسية، وقد تؤثر سلبا حيث تعرقلهم عن عند إتقان مهارة الكلام. فيهدف هذا البحث إلى وصف: (1) علاقة الجنس بالأداء الشفهي لدى طلاب قسم تعليم اللغة العربية في الجامعة الإسلامية الحكومية بقدس، (2) علاقة الخلفية الدراسية بالأداء الشفهي، (3) علاقةالقلق اللغوي بالأداء الشفهي، (4) علاقة الجنس والخلفية الدراسية والقلق اللغوي بالأداء الشفهي، (5) الاستفادة من نتائج البحث لترقية الأداء الشفهي لدى الطلاب. استخدم البحثالمنهج المختلطيعني الاخلط بين البحث الكمي والبحث الكيفي. وعينة البحث هي 66 طالبا من 108 طالب في قسم تعليم اللغة العربية للمرحلة الثانية في الجامعة الإسلامية الحكومية بقدس. وأساليب جمع البيانات هي الإستبانة لقياس القلق في فصول تعلم اللغة الأجنبية التي أعدها هوروتز وآخرون والاختبار والمقابلة والملاحظة. مع تحليل الانحدار الخطيوتحليل الارتباط الثنائي المتغير بيرسون. دلت نتائج البحث إلى: (1) وجود علاقة ضعيفة بين الجنس والأداء الشفهي، حيثنتيجةPearson Correlation0،257 أوr الحسابي أكبر من 0،244(rالجدولي). (2) وجود علاقة قويةبين الخلفية الدراسيةوالأداء الشفهي لدى الطلاب، حيثنتيجةPearson Correlation0،390 أوr الحسابي أكبر من 0،244(rالجدولي). (3) وجود علاقة قوية بين القلق اللغويوالأداء الشفهي لدى الطلاب حيث نتيجةPearson Correlation–0،397أوr الحسابي أكبر من 0،244(rالجدولي). (5) إن تعليم مهارة الكلام لا بد أن يهتم بقدرات الطلاب في أدائهم الشفهيحيث يكون التعليم بناء على اللعبة اللغوية والبرنامج الإضافي لتقوية مهارة الكلام والنتيجة النظرية من هذا البحث هيأن ترقية الأداء الشفهي لدى الطلبة يمكن أن تتم بمراعاة فروقهم الجنسية وخلفيتهم الدراسية واجتناب أسباب قلقهم عند تعليم اللغة العربية. ABSTRAK Ada beberapa faktor ekternal yang berhubungan dengan aspek psikologi mahasiswa dan dapat memberikan dampak negatif di mana akan menghambat mereka dalam penguasaan ketrampilan berbicara mahasiswa. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendiskripsikan: (1) Hubungan jenis kelamin dengan performansi bahasa lisan pada mahasiswa program studi Pendidikan Bahasa Arab di Institut Agama Islam Negeri Kudus, (2) Hubungan latar belakang pendidikan dengan performansi bahasa lisan, (3) Hubungan kecemasan bahasa dengan performansi bahasa lisan, (4) Hubungan jenis kelamin dan latar belakang pendidikan dan kecemasan berbahasa dengan performansi bahasa lisan, (5) manfaat hasil penelitian untuk meningkatkan performansi bahasa lisan mahasiswa. Penelitian ini menggunakan mixed method yang berarti gabungan antara penelitian kuantitatif dan penelitian kualitatif. Sampel penelitian adalah 66 dari 108 mahasiswa semester dua program studi Pendidikan Bahasa Arab di Institut Agama Islam Negeri Kudus. Metode pengumpulan data adalah angket untuk mengukur kecemasan di kelas pembelajaran bahasa asing yang disusun oleh Horwitz dkk., tes, wawancara, dan observasi. Dengan analisis regresi linierAnalisis korelasi bivariat pearson. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Terdapat hubungan yang lemah antara jenis kelamin dengan performansi bahasa lisan, dimana nilaikorelasi pearson 0.257 atau nilai r hitung lebih besar dari nilai r tabel. (2) Terdapat hubungan yang cukup kuat antara latar belakang pendidikan dengan performansi bahasa lisan pada mahasiswa, dimana nilaikorelasi pearson 0.390 atau nilai r hitung lebih besar dari nilai r tabel. (3) Terdapat hubungan yang cukup kuat kecemasan berbahasa dengan performansi bahasa lisan mahasiswa, dimana nilaikorelasi pearson -0.397 atau nilai r hitung lebih besar dari nilai r tabel (4) Terdapat hubungan yang kuat antarajenis kelamin, latar belakang pendidikan dan kecemasan berbahasa terhadap performansi bahasa lisan mahasiswa program studi Pendidikan Bahasa Arab di Institut Agama Islam Negeri Kudus. (5) Pembelajaran keterampilan berbicara seharusnya memperhatikan kemampuan mahasiswa dalam performansi bahasa lisan berdasarkan permainan pembelajaran bahasa serta program tambahan untuk memperkuat ketrampilan berbicara. Temuan teoritis dari penelitian ini adalah performansi bahasa Arab lisan mahasiswa dapat ditingkatkan dengan cara memperhatikan perbedaan jenis kelamin, latar belakang pendidikan dan mengurangi kecemasan mereka dalam pembelajaran bahasa Arab. ABSTRACT There are external factors related to the learner’s psychological aspect having a negative impact on students speaking skills. This research aimis to describe: (1) therelationship between gender and oral performance among students of the Arabic language education study program at The Islamic State Institute of Kudus, (2) the relationship between academic background and oral performance, (3) the relationship between language anxiety and oral performance, (4) the relationship among gender, academic background, and language anxiety toward oral performance, (5) the advantageof this research is to improve the students oral performance. The research uses a mixed-method;namelya combinationof quantitative and qualitative research. The research sample is 66 of 108 students; the second semester of the Arabic language education study programof the Islamic State Institute of Kudus. Data collecting methodsuse the questionnaire to measure foreign language anxiety learning prepared by Horwitz et al., test, interview, and observation with linear regression analysisPearson's bivariate correlation analysis. The results of the research indicated that: (1) There is a weak relationship between student gender and oral performance, which the value ofPearson Correlation0.257 or “r” value result more than “r” table.     Dakwah merupakan hal yang wajib bagi setiap muslim dan muslimah. Dakwah bisa dilakukan secara langsung maupun tidak langsung. Bagi mereka yang konsentrasi penuh dalam dakwah, bisa melakukannya secara langsung, sementara lainnya bisa dakwah secara tidak langsung. Cara dan media dakwah sangat luas dan mencakup semua aspek kehidupan. Seorang guru, pedagang, pengusaha dan profesi yang lainnya dapat pula dijadikan sebagai wasilah untuk berdakwah dan menjadikan profesi tersebut sebagai sarana untuk mendekatkan diri kepada Allah.     We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
