Introducing Guglielmo Giannini: A digital archive of theatre, film, entertainment and political activism

    No full text
This article introduces the 'Guglielmo Giannini: A digital archive of theatre, film, entertainment and political activism' built by the author at Deakin University between 2014 and 2019. It explains that a man famous as a founder of twentieth century (global) populism can be re-framed, through the archive. Not 'just' a politician, part of Italy's founding constituent government in 1946, Giannini was also a man who was active first in journalism, and then important to twentieth century Italian theatre, film, and literature. Providing reflections on the novelty of the historical materials contained for the first time in an accessible archive, the article then explores the care Giannini gave to his own materials, as well as the necessity of looking across different disciplinary archives and material ephemera in order to build a nuanced view of Giannini's populist appeal. As the author argues, without Giannini's training in the arts, and without the care he invested in his personal holdings, the spectacle of populist politics might be wrongly framed today as a recent or novel phenomenon

Formal Attributes Traceability in Modular Language Development Frameworks

    No full text
AbstractModularization and component reuse are concepts that can speed up the design and implementation of domain specific languages. Several modular development frameworks have been developed that rely on attributes to share information among components. Unfortunately, modularization also fosters development in isolation and attributes could be undefined or used inconsistently due to a lack of coordination. This work presents 1) a type system that permits to trace attributes and statically validate the composition against attributes lack or misuse and 2) a correct and complete type inference algorithm for this type system. The type system and inference are based on the Neverlang development framework but it is also discussed how it can be used with different frameworks

Evaluation of seismic fragility of electrical insulators

    No full text
The paper deals with the seismic vulnerability of high voltage electric equipment as a part of a research project financed by the National Group for the Defence against Earthquakes (VIA project). Using a procedure developed in the past by one of the author (EFA, Effective Fragility Analysis), an effective method for the evaluation of the fragility curves of high voltage electric equipment is proposed. On the basis of experimental results carried out at the laboratory of Department of Structures of the University of Roma Tre, the seismic vulnerability of a 380 kV vertical disconnecting switch have been investigated. According to the EFA method, the fragility curves of the equipment have been built using a limited number of numerical analyses. Finally the influence of the significant parameters on its failure probability has been investigated

    Incremental Rebinding with Name Polymorphism

    No full text
AbstractWe propose an extension with name variables of a calculus for incremental rebinding of code introduced in previous work. Names, which can be either constants or variables, are used as interface of fragments of code with free variables. Open code can be dynamically rebound by applying a rebinding, which is an association from names to terms. Rebinding is incremental, since rebindings can contain free variables as well, and can be manipulated by operators such as overriding and renaming. By using name variables, it is possible to write terms which are parametric in their nominal interface and/or in the way it is adapted, greatly enhancing expressivity. The type system is correspondingly extended by constrained name-polymorphic types, where simple inequality constraints prevent conflicts among parametric name interfaces

From verbal to physical violence: the different severity perception of stalking behaviors

    No full text
Abstract Stalking is a global spread phenomenon consisting in harassing, annoying, unwanted, and intrusive behaviors, often considered regular in courting. These behaviors are part of the broader range of gender-based violence. In accordance with the theory of ecological systems, this study aimed to investigate the presence of gender differences in the perception of the severity of stalking actions, considering the role of the type of violence perpetrated (physical versus verbal) and the relationship between the author and victim (Resentful ex-partner, Incompetent suitor rejected, Neighbor in dispute). The results showed gender differences in the main dimensions investigated by the questionnaire (Moral Disengagement, Normlessness beliefs, Empathy, and Perception of the Severity of Stalking). In addition, the results show that the perception of severity is influenced by the type of relationship and the type of violence perpetrated, differently between men and women. Results were discussed based on the development of literature on the topic

Italian multicentre study of peroneal mononeuropathy at the fibular head: study design and preliminary results

    No full text
BACKGROUND: The most common entrapment in the lower extremity is peroneal mononeuropathy (PM) at the fibular head. Several studies of this condition have been published but, until now, no wide multicenter clinical-neurophysiological studies on PM are available. In recent years, multicenter studies have been suggested; moreover it is commonly accepted that a multiperspective approach provides more comprehensive results. METHOD: The Italian CTS and other entrapments Study Group has designed a strict clinical and neurophysiological protocol to carry out a wide multicentre study on PM at the fibular head. In addition to traditional clinical-neurophysiological evaluation, the group has also adopted validated disability and patient-oriented measurements in order to obtain more comprehensive and reliable data about this entrapment. The study was designed: 1) to identify predisposing factors; 2) to better assess the clinical picture; 3) to evaluate relationships between etiological, clinical and neurophysiological findings; 4) to evaluate the natural evolution of the entrapment. Study design is described. FINDINGS: During the period from November 2002 to January 2004, 69 patients were enrolled consecutively in eleven Italian centres. Our preliminary data show that PM involves men more frequently than women (M:F = 3.9:1). With regard to the predisposing factors, PM is idiopathic (16%) or due to surgery (21.7%), prolonged posture (23.2%), weight loss (14.5%), external compression (5.8%), arthrogenic cyst at the fibula (1.4%), trauma (10.1%); it also occurred in bedridden patients (7.3%). Unexpectedly, peroneal nerve lesions were due not only to surgical operation close to the peroneal region, but were also associated with thoracic-abdominal surgery. Usually PM involves both terminal branches; patients complain of motor deficit in 99.5% of cases, sensory symptoms in 87.9% and pain in 19.7%. CONCLUSIONS: Our preliminary results provide some interesting information and confirm the usefulness of multicentre and multiperspective studies to standardise the approach to nerve entrapment

La importancia de la vida cotidiana en los estudios antropológicos

    No full text
In this essay, the author shows the relevance of an analitical perspective of everyday life for the anthropological researches. In that way, the author makes a summary about different proposals that have been made during the XXth century and he comments reaches and limitations of the concept of everyday life by the chilean philosopher Humbert Giannini. At the end, the author exempliflies how the everyday life could be relevant for social researches that deal with Justice.
