From Foucauldian Biopower to Energopower and Infopower:An Interview with Dominic Boyer and Colin Koopman

    No full text
Kirsten Hasberg talks to Dominic Boyer, anthropologist and author of Energopolitics: Wind and Power in the Anthroprocene, and to Colin Koopman, philosopher and author of How We Became our Data: A Genealogy of the Informational Person. Their books published in mid-2019 put forward novel conceptualizations of Foucauldian biopower, which they term infopower and energopower, respectively. Criss-crossing between philosophical conceptualizations and concrete problems like the struggles of renewable energy communities (Boyer) and the influence of economic thinking on datafication (Koopman), the conversations show how Foucauldian concepts are relevant to today's power struggles inherent to the energy transition and the digital transformation.Kirsten Hasberg talks to Dominic Boyer, anthropologist and author of Energopolitics: Wind and Power in the Anthroprocene, and to Colin Koopman, philosopher and author of How We Became our Data: A Genealogy of the Informational Person. Integration of LHCb workflows on the Santos Dumont supercomputer

    No full text
To handle the growing amount of data coming from the LHC Run3 and then the High-Luminosity LHC phases, LHCb aims at integrating Monte-Carlo simulation workflows into supercomputers such as Santos Dumont, hosted in LNCC, in Brazil. Data focus on the use of Santos Dumont CPU resources for three months, in the context of LHCb. Data mainly include CSV files related to the CPU usage of the resources (CPU benchmark results, CPU seconds processed per second, statuses of the jobs, wallclock time allocated and used), as well as a Jupyter Notebook to present plots based on data. Data show that providing a more accurate CPU power value and leveraging multi-node allocations would ease the exploitation of a larger number of resources

Jean-Baptiste Boyer d'Argens, a dissident and libertine writer, has played an important role by spreading Enlightenment ideas to Frederic II of Prussia. He began to write in the 1730s, a particularly productive and innovative period. His work is a testimony of the profound transformation of the novel toward the modern approach. By blending different formal genres (novel and memoirs), he made use of an hybrid genre in which moral truth is greater than historical accuracy. His entire repertoire converges toward a principal theme, the emancipation of man. This notion of freedom not only implies to the freedom of thought, conduct and writing form, it is the foundation of Boyer d'Argens' life and poetics. This author, not too conservative, not too eccentric, is a good representation of the common trend of thinking of the Enlightenment

Implementasi Algoritma Boyer-Moore Pada Chatbot Wisata Yogyakarta

As the development of technology and increasing newcomers to the city of Yogyakarta, so that the need for information about tourism related in Yogyakarta is also higher. Yogyakarta tourism growth is increasing very rapidly every year as many local and foreign tourists visit the city known as the student town. Therefore, the author intends to build a chatbot that serves as a Virtual Assistant for Yogyakarta tourists. This chatbot is able to provide information to travellers through data stored on the system. The implementation and design of the software resulted in a chatbot built using the Boyer-Moore algorithm. The Boyer-Moore algorithm works by comparing patterns ranging from right to left, so this algorithm becomes an efficient search solution. If there is a pattern string mismatch then the pattern will move towards the left, this gesture will give information how many shifts to match the character that corresponds to the initial pattern. The Boyer-Moore algorithm has an edge over time finding patterns in larger file sizes. From the test results verification, validity submission, and prototype testing conducted on the chatbot system can run well according to the planning.

This thesis aims to reflect on the act of appropriating real events and placing them within a fictional framework. To do so, I examined the case of a particular writer named Philoxène Boyer, whose life and work have largely been forgotten. I created a fictional biography of Philoxène Boyer, drawing inspiration from the only biography dedicated to him, titled Philoxène Boyer. Un sale ami de Baudelaire. Using this 1987 biography as a basis, I explore what it means to recount the life of a literary figure who – it seems – had little to offer beyond his individuality and his connections with prominent figures in the 19th century Parisian literary world. The author of this biography, Sylvain-Christian David, presents the story of this character in a novel way. In my essay, I focused on the study of the processes used in this biography (like the relation to sources, the unstable reading contract, and the use of irony) to understand how a subject as particular as Boyer can influence the writing of a work with codes as rigid as those of the biographical genre. What are the conditions that allow the biographical story to claim its scientific nature despite everything ? My creation reflects these questions. In it, I push Philoxène Boyer's story towards fiction, while retaining characteristics that are those of the biographical genre in its referential tradition
