Nitrogen immobilization in paddy soils as affected by redox conditions and rice straw incorporation
Biotic and abiotic processes controlling nitrogen (N) immobilization in paddy soils may significantly affect nutrient availability for plant uptake during the rice cropping season, as well as the efficiency of applied N fertilizers. Understanding the influence of water and crop residue management practices on N availability, however, requires detailed insight into the mechanisms and factors controlling N immobilization in these soils. We evaluated changes in fertilizer-15N immobilization in a paddy topsoil incubated for 160 d under flooded or non-flooded conditions, with or without rice straw incorporation. The distribution of immobilized N between different soil fractions and interlayer N fixation was assessed by combining aggregate-size, density and chemical fractionation with stable isotope analysis, while compound-specific δ15N analysis of individual amino sugars was used to evaluate microbial utilization of applied N. Fast immobilization of applied N (≈ 48% applied N) was observed in both flooded (Eh = + 0.4 to − 0.2 V) and non-flooded (Eh = + 0.4 to + 0.6 V) soils, however in the latter most of this N was released during incubation. The finer soil fractions served as the greatest sink of immobilized N, retaining 5–36% of the added N. Although biotic processes were mainly responsible for N retention, about 4–11% of N applied to flooded soils was weakly fixed within the interlayer of clay minerals, primarily associated with microaggregates. Straw addition further enhanced N immobilization under both oxic and anoxic conditions, with ≈ 12% of total immobilized N (2–4% of applied N) associated with the light organic matter fraction. The increasing incorporation of applied N into microbial residues suggested that addition of rice straw to paddy soils may lead to effective microbial-mediated immobilization and stabilization of significant portions of N inputs
GHEORGHE CUCU – THE COMPOSER'S CREATIONS IN MANUSCRIPT
In 1970, I.B.M.B.O.R. (The Missionary Biblical Institute of the Romanian Orthodox Church) published “Hymns of the Divine Liturgy arranged for mixed chorus”. This work contains only 50 hymns – just a small section of the composer’s creation. Nicolae Lungu, the author of the foreword on this edition, mentioned: “many hymns were issued in booklets, handbooks and musical periodicals; other hymns were preserved in manuscript, waiting to be published” (Gheorghe Cucu, Cântările Sfintei Liturghii..., (Holy Liturgy Songs...), Bucharest, 1970, p. IV). In this study we refer to the manuscripts kept in the Romanian Academy Library. Albeit much of Cucu’s musical scores were published and were shared by most of the Romanian and Diaspora choirs, there still remains an unexplored part of Cucu’s creation that completes the image of his personality as composer, conductor and professor
Utilizing Environmentally Friendly Techniques for the Sustainable Control of Plant Pathogens: A Review.
Utilizing environmentally friendly techniques for pathogen control in agriculture is a sustainable and eco-friendly approach to managing crop diseases. These techniques leverage the natural environment and ecosystem dynamics to reduce pathogen pressure, minimize the use of chemical inputs, and promote long-term agricultural productivity. Key strategies include crop rotation, intercropping, and maintaining biodiversity, all of which disrupt pathogen life cycles and enhance soil health. Biological control, such as introducing natural antagonists like beneficial fungi or bacteria, suppresses pathogen populations while promoting plant resilience. Additionally, practices such as mulching, soil solarization, and water management optimize environmental conditions to limit the development and spread of pathogens. These techniques also contribute to integrated pest management by providing sustainable, cost-effective solutions that reduce chemical dependency and mitigate climate change and other environmental impacts. This review discusses the importance of utilizing environmentally friendly techniques, highlighting their advantages, practical challenges, and limitations in different agro-ecological settings, and their role in advancing sustainable agriculture
Contributions to Using IT in Education: An Educational Video Player
Following the trends of IT use in education we propose four main principles of educational application development: anytime-anywhere access (including access for mobile devices); user-generated content; assigning users an active role inside the platform; creating a correlation between natural activities and educational activities – adding fun into the equation. With these principles in mind we developed a small Educational Player – a movie player that connects to a database to show information relevant to the events in the movie, more specific to the exact key-frame (in the movie time-line) at the moment of the request. Though the application is still in a conceptual form, its possibilities make us confident in its future success either as an informal way of learning, or by using it in a formal educational context either as an e-learning tool, either as interactivity tool in a traditional classroom setting.E-learning, Educational Technologies, Multimedia Applications

Wesseh Cucu. Thesis: Futistreffit – analysis and evaluation. Language: English. Content: 53 pages, 2 appendices.
Degree: Bachelor of Social Services. Focus: Community Development. Institution: Diaconia University of Applied Sciences, Järvenpää
The aim of this research is to examine football as a positive youth development tool for Learning-Integration. It focuses on community youth work and uses action research as the prime method of analysis and evaluation. The subject of research is Futistreffit, a football oriented pilot which was conducted in summer 2009 in the City of Turku.
The research highlights the significance of cultural diversity management in football based on empirical data and a logical framework approach to youth socialization within a contextual understanding of community development youth work. The study also establishes that the generic competence necessary for an effective, efficient management of youth capital in community development work is cultural competence.
This is a qualitative research based on a methodology of empirical data analyses, participatory action research, observation and literature review. Futistreffit is fundamentally based on the career experiences of the author in football coaching, community youth work and his support and involvement in participatory civic practices in methods of engaging and involving Youth-in-Action.
Thus, the research results validate that when football is used in the context of socialization and Learning-Integration as emphasized during the implementation of Futistreffit for positive youth development; young people are subsequently empowered with the social skills necessary for cohesive cultural interactions. This research is functional as a community development tool for empowerment, participation and capacity building for inclusion of young immigrants. The findings shows that sports- based youth development programs can provide settings that enable positive development. The thesis also validates that youth development initiatives can be successful only if the program organizers, staff and volunteers are keen about and committed to implementing best practices.
Football is a unique Learning-Integration tool for youth empowerment youth socialization, and capacity building for integration. This research is functional as a community development tool for youth empowerment and capacity building through methods of inclusion. This fact presupposes that young people are able to realize potential talents and develop skills through Life-Long-Learning for fully integrating in society
The Sarajevo Zone : De-Othering Through Humour
This thesis examines how the visual productions of the Sarajevo based design group Trio functioned as an exercise in constructive resistance and de-othering. By drawing on Bakhtin’s (1968) framework of the carnivalesque and Rancière’s (2013) notion of the distribution of the sensible, the study analyses thirty-nine of Trio’s handmade postcards. The results show that Trio, through the use of three modes of laughter: situational irony, satire, and gallows humour, have engaged in a persistent exercise in constructive resistance, constantly seeking to de-other Sarajevans within the war and outside of it. Most postcards reappropriate Western pop culture symbols, localising them to Sarajevo in order to expose the absurdity of life under siege and critique international community’s passivity. By intentionally omitting ethnic markers, Trio recasts Sarajevans not as passive victims but as agents of meaning-making, challenging internal divisions and underlining the shared humanity with external audiences. The study contributes to Peace and Conflict Studies by exploring how laughter in visual art productions can reconfigure identity and foster alternative narratives in wartime by engaging in resistance practices

This research is based on the lack of speaking skill level of elementary school students which is not yet optimal. The method used in this study is the Systematic Literature review (SLR) method with 8 stages according to Perry & Hammond starting from the identification of research questions, developing research protocols, determining the location of the database as a search area, selecting quality research results, extracting data. , synthesis of results with meta-synthesis, and presentation of results. The author examines the problem of speaking skills by analyzing scientific articles about the benefits of the jigsaw cooperative learning model .The articles analyzed start from the range of 2014-2020. The search for relevant articles comes from several publishers such as Portal Garuda, Google Scholar, and DOAJ. The author got 38 relevant articles based on the titles studied, but after screeningbased on the criteria, the authors get 9 articles that are considered to have met the criteria. The findings from each analyzed article show that the application of the jigsaw type of cooperative learning model has a positive effect and benefits on students' speaking skills. The benefits of the jigsaw type of cooperative learning model that most influence is student learning outcomes and students become motivated. This is because the jigsaw model facilitates students to be able to work together and exchange opinions with their peers in completing learning materials, the jigsaw model requires all students to equate mindsets as the basis for delivery in discussion groups. The implication of this research is that the teacher can choose the jigsaw type of learning model to increase the active speaking skills of elementary school students.

Variation across Romania in the health impact of increasing tobacco taxation
Background Tobacco is the leading preventable cause of death globally and tobacco taxation is a cost-effective method of reducing tobacco use in countries and increasing revenue. However, without adequate enforcement some argue the risk of increasing illicit trade in cheap tobacco makes taxation ineffective. We explore this by testing sub-national variations in the impact of tobacco tax increases from 2009 to 2011, on seven smoking-related diseases in adults in Romania, to see if regions that are prone to cigarette smuggling due to bordering other countries see less benefit. Method We use a pragmatic natural experiment study approach to analyse the study period 2009-15. Findings from hospital episodes data relating to smoking-attributable diseases are analysed for six regional subgroups which are compared according to border characteristics with other countries. Results At a national level smoking-attributable diseases reduced over the study period especially around the tax increase years, with asthma showing the most significant decline. Sub-nationally there was no statistically significant correlation in variations between central regions and those bordering other countries. Conclusion There is a reassuring decline in hospitalizations for smoking-related diseases associated with the tax increases, and no sub-national association with smuggling risk measured by variation in the size of this effect and regions that border other countries. More comprehensive and progressive tobacco control in Romania should be implemented in line with the WHO Framework Convention for Tobacco Control
Reliability Aware Computing Platforms Design and Lifetime Management
Aggressive CMOS technology feature size down-scaling into the deca nanometer regime, while benefiting performance and yield, determined device characteristics variability increase w.r.t. their nominal values, which can lead to large spreads in delay, power, and robustness, and make devices more prone to aging and noise induced failures during in-field usage. Because of transistor’s gate dielectric increasing power density and electric field the nanoscale Integrated Circuits (ICs) failure mechanisms accelerating factors have become more severe than ever, which can cause higher failure rate during ICs useful life and early aging onset. As a result, meeting the reliability targets with viable costs in this landscape becomes a significant challenge, requiring to be addressed in an unitary manner from design time to run time. To this end, we propose a holistic reliability aware design and lifetime management framework concerned (i) at design time, with providing a reliability enhanced adaptive architecture fabric, and (ii) at run time, with observing and dynamically managing fabric’s wear-out profile such that user defined Quality-of-Service requirements are fulfilled, and with maintaining a full-life reliability log to be utilized as auxiliary information during the next IC generation design. Specifically, we first introduce design time transistor and circuit level aging models, which provide the foundation for a 4-dimensional Design Space Exploration (DSE) meant to identify a reliability optimized circuit realization compliant with area, power, and delay constraints. Subsequently, to enable the creation of a low cost but yet accurate fabric observation infrastructure, we propose a methodology to minimize the number of aging sensors to be deployed in a circuit and identify their location, and introduce a sensor design able to directly capture circuit level amalgamated effects of concomitant degradation mechanisms. Furthermore, to make the information collected from sensors meaningful to the run-time management framework we introduce a circuit level model that can estimate the overall circuit aging and predict its End-of-Life based on imprecise sensors measurements, while taking into account the degradation nonlinearities. Finally, to provide more DSE reliability enhancement options we focus on the realization of reliable data transport and processing with unreliable components, and propose: (i) a codec for reliable energy efficient medium/long range data transport, and (ii) a methodology to obtain Error Correction Codes protected data processing units with an output error rate smaller than the fabrication technology gate error rate
