No full textBarbara Goldberg (1943- ) is a poet, translator, editor, author of feature articles and speeches, and educator, who lives in Chevy Chase, Maryland. Raised in Forest Hills, New York, she holds degrees from Mount Holyoke College (B.A., 1963), Columbia University (M.Ed., 1970), and American University (M.F.A., 1985). She is the author of four volumes of poetry: The Royal Baker's Daughter (2008); Marvelous Pursuits (1995), Cautionary Tales (1990), and Berta Broadfoot and Pepin the Short: A Merovingian Romance (1986), three of which have been translated into Hebrew. The Fire Stays in Red: Poems by Ronny Someck was translated by Goldberg and the Israeli poet Moshe Dor (2002). In addition, Goldberg and Dor edited two anthologies of Hebrew poetry in translation: After the First Rain: Israeli Poems on War and Peace (1998) and The Stones Remember: Native Israeli Poetry (l991). Goldberg edited The First Yes: Poems About Communicating (1996) and co-edited Open Door: Selected Poems from Poet Lore, 1980-1996 (1996). The recipient of numerous awards, Goldberg's poetry has been published in Poetry, the Paris Review, the Gettysburg Review, and the Harvard Review and her translations in the American Poetry Review. In 1999, she served as Poet-in-Residence for Howard County, Maryland. She has been a fellow at Yaddo, the MacDowell Colony, and the Virginia Center for the Creative Arts. She formerly served as editor of Poet Lore magazine and as senior speechwriter at AARP. Her papers include copies of her full-length books of poetry in English and Hebrew as well as copies of those she edited or translated. There are also copies of the books and serial publications to which Goldberg contributed. The correspondence with individuals and organizations documents her writing career. Additional materials in the collection include manuscripts, page proofs, notes, research materials, publicity, audio and video recordings, and photographs

Goldberg's personal papers range from primary, secondary, and tertiary workbooks from his school years, to correspondence, journals, notes, reflections, speeches and other papers written during his professional life as an accounting educator and author. Also included are numerous drafts, research materials and notes for the many books and articles that Professor Goldberg wrote on the subject of accounting. The collection provides an excellent research resource for the history of accounting, the development of accounting as an academic discipline, and the professional working life of Professor Louis Goldberg.</p

Hosting and integrating refugees in portugal: Recovering the voices of the actors
No full textEste artículo analiza de forma articulada las trayectorias experimentadas por un grupo de refugiados sirios acogidos en Portugal, en el marco del programa europeo de recolocación (2015-2017), y las políticas adoptadas, así como los programas ejecutados, para acogerlos e integrarlos en el país. A partir del desarrollo de una metodología etnográfica, se recuperaron las perspectivas de los propios sujetos actores de esos procesos. Por medio del análisis de sus narrativas fue posible detectar una serie de déficits, falencias y necesidades de desarrollo no cubiertas, en términos de programas de acogida y políticas de integración, los cuales pueden sintetizarse en tres principales: lenguaje (falta de enseñanza eficaz del idioma portugués), trabajo (falta de herramientas de apoyo para su búsqueda e inserción laboral) y capacitación (falta de formación). Un cuarto elemento a considerar en el análisis es el de los obstáculos estructurales, fundamentalmente aquellos de orden burocrático-clientelar.This paper analyzes, in an articulated way, the trajectories experienced by a group of Syrian refugees hosted in Portugal, within the framework of the European relocation program (2015-2017), and the policies adopted, as well as the programs implemented, to host and integrate them in the country. From the development of an ethnographic methodology, the perspectives of the actors themselves of these processes were recovered. Through the analysis of their narratives, it was possible to detect a series of deficits, shortcomings, and development needs not covered in terms of refugee-hosting programs and integration policies, which can be synthesized into three main ones: language (lack of effective teaching of the Portuguese language), work (lack of support tools for its search and job placement) and training (lack of training). Effects of tariffs and real exchange rates on job reallocation: evidence from Latin America
No full textOpenness to international competition can lead to enhanced resource allocation in the long-run. While factor reallocation is essential if net benefits are to be derived from trade liberalization, the process generates costs both for transitioning workers and for employers undergoing personnel turnover. Net welfare gains depend on adjustment costs. Understanding of these issues has been hampered by data limitations. In this paper, we overcome some of these limitations by using new, harmonized measures on job creation and destruction for a number of countries in Latin America. We use these new series to investigate the impact of the removal of protectionism on net employment and gross job reallocation in Latin America. We find a robust pattern showing that reductions in tariffs and exchange rate appreciations increase the pace of job reallocation within sectors. We also find, however, some evidence of declining net employment as trade exposure increases. For example, we find some evidence that in the wake of tariff reductions, there is lower net employment growth. <br/

CIEs. Tampoco constituye un ensayo teórico. Por el contrario, fue un intento
de, a través de las voces de las personas internas del CIE de la zona franca de
Barcelona -y de sus vínculos con otros agentes sociales interactuantes-, otorgar
visibilidad a aquellas, así como a un espacio a menudo desconocido por el
resto de la sociedad.
Es así que este trabajo es también fruto de la curiosidad, de la motivación por
saber qué es lo que sucede tras los muros de una institución estatal -en apariencia-
opaca a los ojos de buena parte de la sociedad civil. En función de ello,
inicialmente formulé los siguientes interrogantes: ¿Qué son estos espacios más
allá de la definición legal? ¿Cuál es la razón de su existir? ¿Qué sucede allí
dentro? ¿Qué es aquello que se oculta, se invisibiliza, se silencia?
Estas preguntas de partida, sumado a la escasez de trabajos que dieran cuenta
de la realidad de los CIEs en España, y menos aún, del CIE de Barcelona,
impulsaron la elección del tema de investigación..
Contextos de vulnerabilidade social e situações de risco à saúde: a tuberculose em imigrantes bolivianos trabalhadores e moradores de oficinas de costura ilegais de Buenos Aires

Reconociendo las complejas dimensiones de análisis que interactúan en este proceso, se focaliza particularmente en el contexto de vulnerabilidad social y en las situaciones de riesgo para la salud que supone el modo de vida y trabajo en los talleres, identificando los distintos tipos de padecimientos que estos provocan, entre los que se destaca la tuberculosis, su contagio y transmisión.This paper addresses a specific case within the range of migration processes of Bolivians in Argentina: the young men and women, originally recruited through transnational networks of trafficking in persons, which were reduced to servitude illegally in order to work in clandestine textile workshops of the Buenos Aires Metropolitan Area (BAMA). Recognizing the complex dimensions of analysis that interact in this process, we particularly focus on social vulnerability contexts and health risks posed by their work and living conditions in workshops. We identify the diverse sufferings these conditions cause, among which tuberculosis infection and transmission.O presente trabalho aborda um caso específico dentro de um conjunto variado de processos migratórios de bolivianos na Argentina: o de homens e mulheres jovens recrutados em seu país de origem por redes transnacionais de trata e tráfico de pessoas. Esses imigrantes são submetidos à situação de servidão, trabalhando como mão de obra escrava na indústria têxtil ilegal na cidade de Buenos Aires e sua região metropolitana.
