Effective superpotentials via Konishi anomaly
No full textWe use Ward identities derived from the generalized Konishi anomaly in order to compute effective superpotentials for SU(N), SO (N) and Sp(N) supersymmetric gauge theories coupled to matter in various representations. In particular we focus on cubic and quartic tree level superpotentials. With this technique higher order corrections to the perturbative part of the effective superpotential can be easily evaluated. © SISSA/ISAS 2003
An example of localized D-branes solution on PP-wave backgrounds
No full textIn this note we provide an explicit example of type-IIB supersymmetric D3-branes solution on a pp-wave like background, consisting in the product of an eight-dimensional pp-wave times a two-dimensional flat space. An interesting property of our solution is the fully localization of the D3-branes (i.e. the solution depends on all the transverse coordinates). Then we show the generalization to other Dp-branes and to the D1/D5 system. © SISSA/ISAS 2003

Gravitational F-terms of SO/Sp gauge theories and anomalies
No full textWe study the first non trivial gravitational corrections to the F-terms of N = 1 SYM SO/Sp gauge theories, with matter in some representations, by using the generalized Konishi anomaly method. We derive equations at genus one for the operators in the chiral ring and compare them with the loop equations of the corresponding matrix models, finding agreement. We find that for adjoint representation the genus 0 contributions to such corrections can be adsorbed by a field redefinition; remarkably, this is not the case for matter in the (anti-) symmetric representation of (Sp) SO. © SISSA/ISAS 2003

Get PDFIn 1734 the position of canónigo doctoral, of the Santiago de Chile Cathedral, became vacant. Juan de Sarricolea, bishop at the time, established edicts in order to hold competitive examinations, as it was required in those cases. For many reasons, the examinations were delayed until 1736, year in which the new bishop, Juan Bravo del Rivero, decided to hold examinations again. Manual de Alday y Aspée (1712- 1788), born in Concepción, was in Lima studying and working as a lawyer when he found out about the vacancy of the position and decided to apply, for which he had to take the corresponding exam in Santiago. In this context, Manuel de Alday y Aspée writes the document I work with in this presentation, that has been cataloged by José Ignacio Víctor Eyzaguirre as a “draft of a literary piece” and by Javier González Echeñique as a “draft of a merit statement”. From my perspective, the document constitutes a diferent type of discourse, related to relations of merits and diferent from them as well. From its comparison with traditional relations of merits, similarities and diferences are established and the academic career of thisimportant colonial scholar is outlined.En 1734 vacó el cargo de canónigo doctoral de la catedral de Santiago de Chile. El entonces obispo Juande Sarricolea puso edictos para llamar a concurso de oposición, como se solía hacer en estos casos. Pordistintos motivos se retrasó el concurso hasta 1736, año en que el nuevo obispo Juan Bravo del Riverodecidió volver a hacer convocatoria. Manuel de Alday y Aspée (1712-1788), natural de Concepción, se encontraba en Lima estudiando y trabajando como abogado cuando se enteró de la vacancia del cargo y decidió postular, para lo cual rindió el examen correspondiente en Santiago. En ese contexto escribe el documento que considero aquí, que ha sido catalogado por José Ignacio Víctor Eyzaguirre como “borrador de escrito literario” y por Javier González Echeñique como “borrador de exposición de méritos” pero que, desde mi perspectiva, constituye un tipo discursivo diferente, vinculado a las relaciones de méritos, distinto de ellas a la vez. Get PDFWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
