A framework for cloud computing adoption by Saudi Government overseas agencies
This study aims to identify key factors that organizations should consider when deciding whether to adopt cloud computing, and sets out a framework for how these factors can be weighed in order to make a decision. The study uses the Saudi Government agencies as a case study and makes several specific recommendations that pertain to the Saudi authorities' implementation of cloud computing. Although there are many benefits associated with deployment of cloud computing applications, there are also several challenges, such as compliance, legal issues, hosting issues, security, trust and privacy. There are also inadequate resources and guidelines for the policy makers and managers to inform their decision of whether or not to adopt cloud computing. This study identifies a number of factors; technological, environmental, organizational and societal, which need to be considered when an organization decides whether or not to adopt cloud computing. After identifying these factors, the study develops a comprehensive framework for organizations to assess their readiness for cloud computing. In addition, the feasibility of cloud computing applications is assessed so that different delivery and deployment models can be taken into account, and cloud computing evaluated from both business and customer perspectives
A model for cloud computing adoption by Saudi government overseas agencies
There are benefits and challenges in cloud computing adoption, which could be affected by technological, environmental, organisational and societal factors. Cloud computing adoption has been sufficiently investigated; however, there is dearth of empirical research on cloud computing adoption in public sector organisations of developing countries that operate overseas such as embassies, trade and commerce offices and cultural bureaus.The aim of this study is to empirically identify factors that significantly influence the adoption of cloud computing in government organisations overseas.The methodology of this cross sectional study includes use of mixed method approach and data triangulation using exploratory semi-structured interviews with 10 IT experts, evaluation of a cloud computing research framework by 37 IT experts and an online questionnaire survey involving a convenience sample of 226 employees working in different overseas organisations of Saudi Arabian government. The survey data were analysed using the exploratory factor analysis (EFA) and followed by confirmatory factor analysis (CFA) and structural equation modelling (SEM).The results showed cloud computing adoption has statistically significant positive association with top management support (β=0.7, p <0.001), data security (β=0.678, p <0.001), trust (β=0.58, p = 0.001), cost of infrastructure (β=0.479, p = 0.001), usefulness of the system (β=0.449, p <0.001), privacy (β=0.362, p = 0.001) organisation size (β=0.299, p = 0.001), employee readiness (β=0.26, p = 0.006) and quality of service (β=0.184, p = 0.009). Cloud computing adoption has statistically significant but negative association with culture of the home country (i.e. Kingdom of Saudi Arabia) (β= -0.689, p = 0.001), legal and policy concerns (β= -0.559, p = 0.001), lack of IT standards (β= -0.519, p < 0.001), employee resistance (β= -0.364, p = 0.016), expandability of application to the cloud (β= -0.186, p = 0.015) and government intervention (β= -0.083, p = 0.001). There was no statistically significant association between cloud computing adoption and vision of an organisation (β= -0.083, p = 0.233), culture of (Saudi) government organisations overseas (β= -0.08, p = 0.214), change management competences (β= -0.038, p = 0.879) and internet speed and reliability (β= -0.014, p = 0.829).The present study has identified that top management support, data security, and cost of infrastructure are the three critical factors that could promote cloud computing adoption decisions in overseas government organisations of developing countries such as Saudi Arabia. However, the major barriers in cloud computing adoption culture in these organisations include the home country and legal and policy concerns, which need to be considered by managers and policy makers interested in cloud computing adoption. In addition, cloud computing services providers should address the critical barriers especially the lack of IT standards that have been identified as a key factor having a significant negative association with cloud computing adoption
Data security in cloud computing
This paper discusses the security of data in cloud computing. It is a study of data in the cloud and aspects related to it concerning security. The paper will go in to details of data protection methods and approaches used throughout the world to ensure maximum data protection by reducing risks and threats. Availability of data in the cloud is beneficial for many applications but it poses risks by exposing data to applications which might already have security loopholes in them. Similarly, use of virtualization for cloud computing might risk data when a guest OS is run over a hypervisor without knowing the reliability of the guest OS which might have a security loophole in it. The paper will also provide an insight on data security aspects for Data-in-Transit and Data-at-Rest. The study is based on all the levels of SaaS (Software as a Service), PaaS (Platform as a Service) and IaaS (Infrastructure as a Service)
A framework for gamified E-learning systems acceptance in Saudi Arabian universities
E learning is an essential approach, and one which complements the traditional teaching approach. The use of e learning has increased due to the rapid development of Information and Communication Technology (ICT). This growth has encouraged many institutions to adopt e learning and use it to train, teach, and deliver learning to students. However, the success of e learning is tied to learners’ willingness to accept the system through which learning is delivered. Many education institutions and e-learning development parties tend to find ways to increase students’ willingness to accept e learning, one of which is gamification. Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases.
