A Conversation with Shabana Azmi
No full textShabana Azmi, the well-known Indian actress, social activist, and diplomat, spoke to Hindi Urdu Flagship (HUF) students and the UT community on Wednesday, October 20 in the Texas Union Theater. HUF Associate Director for Urdu, Syed Akbar Hyder, introduced Azmi and led a panel of UT faculty members, including HUF Director, Rupert Snell, in an extended discussion with Azmi. She answered questions on such topics as the changing character of Hindi and Urdu in north India and her experience in international diplomacy. HUF students were also able to pose their own questions for Azmi after which the actress briefly met students and spoke to them about their experience in HUF.
The face of independent Indian cinema, Shabana Azmi has come to occupy a unique and prominent place in modern South Asian cultural history. A powerful actress whose presence has lent a vitality and sustainability to India’s so-called parallel cinema, Azmi has also played a decades-long role as a social activist, championing the cause of the marginalized and denouncing violent religious communalism in the subcontinent.
The daughter of a renowned Urdu poet (her father, Kaifi Azmi) and a well-known actress (Shaukat Azmi), Shabana Azmi came to prominence as the young star of the New Indian Cinema of the 1970s, working regularly in challenging films by Satyajit Ray, Shyam Benegal and Mrinal Sen. She has since starred in over 60 films, the most familiar of which for American audiences would be Deepa Mehta’s Fire and Roland Joffe’s City of Joy. Azmi has played an equally important role as a social activist. She has lead several national campaigns against the ostracization of AIDS victims in India. Adapun Hasil temuan dalam Penelitian ini adalah: 1) Kisah Nabi Ulul ‘Azmi dalam Alquran Secara umum adalah menjelaskan tentang dakwah yang mengajak kaumnya untuk bertauhid kepada Allah.Adapun kaum atau ummat yang dihadapi adalah yang sangat keras kepala, sombong dan raja yang zalim.

No full textThis study aims to analyse the preaching methods of Ulul ‘Azmi Prophets from the perspective of Tafsir Al-Azhar written by Hamka. The preaching aspect and its’ procedures were shown by the messengers of Allah including the five Ulul ‘Azmi Prophets mentioned in the Quran. The existence of variety of understanding and deviation in practice towards Islamic teaching such as heresy, the understanding of Liberal Islam, and other interpretations contradicting the Quran and the Sunnah become phenomena that are never separated from preaching (dakwah) and the preachers (da’i). The success and effectiveness of human acceptance for practicing the teachings of Islam are very dependent on missionary methods and approaches used. The Ulul ‘Azmi preaching method method are the best because they are the chosen prophets of the foremost in the list of the prophets and messengers of God sent into the world. This study used qualitative methods by making Tafsir al-Azhar as a primary source and other resources related to it as a secondary source. This library research uses a phenomenological approach, thematic and historical. The research findings discovered three methods as bases of Ulul ‘Azmi Prophets preaching: oral method (bilissanil maqal) that produces 18 methods, the method of bi lisanilhal that produces eight methods, and written method (bilisanil maktub) that produces two methods from it. There are 24 methods used by the Ulul ‘Azmi Prophets in their efforts to preach to the way of Allah. In interpreting such methods, Hamka used four methods namely, the ijmaliy method of interpretation (general), the tahliliy method of interpretation (analysis), the muqarin method of interpretation (comparative), and the bil ma'tsur method of interpretation (interpreting paragraph by paragraph, and interpreting the verse with the hadis). The preaching method can be used as the basis and guidelines in the preaching activity by the preachers (da’i) in present to make adjustments and modifications according to place, time and situation of targeted object of the preaching (mad’u)

Orang Arab ketika itu tidak percay a Nabi Muhammad mereka-reka sedangkan baginda tidak pandai membaca dan menulis (Hadad S.A.T., 2011). Al-Quran mencabar orang yang tidak percaya akan kesahihannya agar menciptakan sepotong ayat yang menandingi bahasa al-Quran (Zakir, t.t.). Al- Quran adalah ayat kebenaran yang diturunkan sebagai panduan kepada umat manusia agar mengikut jalan yang lurus (Muhammad K., 2004). Pada zaman dahulu, orang yang pandai bersyair dan berpuisi dianggap orang yang berkedudukan tinggi dalam masyarakat Arab (Zakir, 2000). Oleh yang demikian, tentulah bahasa yang digunakan oleh penyair adalah menarik dan suka didengari. Namun begitu, walaupun mereka hebat dalam merekacipta syair yang hebat, mereka masih tidak dapat menandingi keunggulan bahasa al-Quran dari segi bahasanya (Saifullah M.S.M.,et. al. 2011)

No full textNowadays, rapid growth of human population have placed tremendous pressure on vacant, green and open spaces in Malaysian cities. In the furniture manufacturing course, furniture that have eco-friendly criteria are most accepted to be developed. Furniture that is made by wood is highly recommended and demanded. Besides that, furniture that have saving space concept such as multifunction, separable, foldable and others unique concept tend to increasing the aesthetic value of that kind of furniture. Separable birdcage is a concept that allow to minimize space usage by have a unique characteristics such as can be used as single, separately and together. In addition, utilization of waste are included in green environment criteria. The objectives of this study are to produce and design separable birdcage by using recycle materials (solid wood waste). Furthermore, the purpose of this study are to used solid wood waste as the main raw materials for birdhouse production by using separable concept, produce an economical design for birdhouse and to clutch grasp the aesthetic value through product satisfaction survey. This separable birdcage by using recycle materials (solid wood waste) was produced and questionnaire was distributed to the correspondent in order to evaluate the product whether good or not. The result obtain from the survey and has been analysed. Overall, there was no significant differences obtain from the effect of different gender, age, profession and concept
Theoretical Insights of History, Morality, and Society as the Literary Trio of the Author-Reader Relationship.
No full textThis paper attempts to examine the relationship between the author and the reader by polarizing history, morality, and society as a selected triad of theoretical interpretation. The study mainly focuses on the theoretical insights of these relationships in order to give proper clues for delving deep into the technical and thematic peculiarities of different literary genres. Therefore, it follows a qualitative approach to some fictional works, particularly novels, to demonstrate how the authorial perspective intersects with the reader’s ability to grasp the latent textual messages projected by authors in the course of the plots. The relationship between the author and the reader will be limited to three related topics, namely, history, morality, and society. As for history, the study sheds light on the postcolonial attributes of literature to reveal the function of liberal humanism in bridging the gap between the colonized people and the colonizers. Morality, on the other hand, will be discussed to explore the relative view of morality by authors and how the reader might conceptualize it according to his/her cultural background. Lastly, the discussion of society will be limited to the social customs and norms approached by authors to deliver a comprehensive depiction of the social reality in which the reader lives his/her true life
