Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Fungal Survey of Different Clinical Samples Collected from Patients
Candida is a genus of yeasts and is the most common cause of fungal infections worldwide. Candida spp., are eukaryotic representatives of the fungi kingdom. The genus Candida includes about 150 species, but many species are endosymbiosis of humans, causing infections mainly in immunosuppressed hosts. The frequency of Candida isolates as a cause of hospital infections has risen in recent years, leading to high rates of morbidity and mortality. The knowledge of the epidemiology of those hospital acquired fungal infections is essential to implement an adequate antifungal therapy. Fungal survey of different clinical samples collected from patients, to determine the effect of antifungal on C. albicans isolates from different body sites and lesions (blood, wounds swabs, ear swabs, bronchoalveolar lavage, high vaginal swabs, sputum, throat swabs, and urine). Swab sticks were collected from different sites of patients’ bodies (blood, wounds swabs, ear swabs, bronchoalveolar lavage, high vaginal swabs, sputum, throat swabs, and urine) then streaked directly on labelled Sabouraud\u27s dextrose agar (SDA) plates and incubated at 25°C for (2-7) days. The growing colonies of Candida spp. isolates were initially diagnosed on (SDA) agar then confirmed by Chrome Candida Agar, the plates were incubated bunder aerobic conditions for 24 hr. at 37°C. Thereafter, antifungal sensitivity test was done. Only 209 of 1596 samples were taken from the patients and cultured on Sabouraud\u27s dextrose agar were found to be positive. From 1596 just 59 isolate was Candida albicans after subculture on CROM Candida Agar, API candida and germ tube formation. Antifungal susceptibility tests were performed on 59 C. albicans isolates. Regarding antifungal resistance by C.albicans it was found 8 (14%) of isolates were resistant isolates resistant to fluconazole, 11 (19%) were resistant to miconazole as well as 11 (19%) were resistant to econazole, while 50 (85%) of isolates were sensitive to Nystatin, Clotrimazole (56, 95%), and to Ketoconazole (54, 92%). The study shows a higher antifungal resistance in the clinical samples which proves the risk in C. albicans management program
Evaluation of the Effect of Crude Extracts of Fenugreek (Trigonella Foenum Graecum) on Resistant Isolates of Klebsiella Pneumoniae, and Pseudomonas Aeruginosa: In Vitro Study
The recent appearance of resistant bacterial species has generated alarm. Medicinal plants are still a good way to get bioactive substances with medical promise, and they can use to get a wide range of antibacterial substances. As an alternative to chemical agents, evaluated the effect of crude fenugreek seed extracts on resistant isolates of Klebsiella pneumoniae and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. This study was conducted from 2021 to 2022 in Karbala. Sputum samples were collected from 455 patients with severe COVID-19, samples were examined directly and cultured on microbiological culture media, and growing colonies were distinguished and preparing smears staining with Grams stain, API system for biochemical and fermentation differentiation, then disc diffusion method to distinguish the resistant isolates in accordance with clinical and laboratory standards institute 2020. Extraction method using the Soxhlet method for eight hours. Electric rotatory evaporators were used to evaporate the remaining solvents, then crude extracts were collected. The GC-MS is used to determine bioactive compounds. Determination of antimicrobial effects by well diffusion method using different concentrations of each extract as (25, 50, 100, and 150mg/ml). The isolated microorganisms were P. aeruginosa comprising 21 (4.6%) including 4 (0.9%) as resistant isolates. However, 50 (11.0%) of the isolates were K. pneumoniae, with 6 (1.3% being resistant) the remaining were other microorganisms. Methanolic extract indicated the heights contains of bioactive compounds followed by chloroform and aqueous respectively. Fenugreek seed methanolic extract at a MIC of 100 mg/ml significant effect on tested microorganisms, with inhibition zones of 10.67 and 9.67 mm, respectively. The methanolic extract contains the most bioactive compounds and the most effective antibacterial agent, followed by chloroform and aqueous extract respectively. P. aeruginosa was the most resistant isolate
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
