development were identified while the paper advised on how the Book Industry can be
further promoted in Nigeria. However, the paper concluded and made recommendations
on how the Book sector can help in enhancing scholarship in the country

Geographic profiling in Nazi Berlin: fact and fiction
No full textGeographic profiling uses the locations of connected crime sites to make inferences about the probable location of the offender’s ‘anchor point’ (usually a home, but sometimes a workplace). We show how the basic ideas of the method were used in a Gestapo investigation that formed the basis of a classic German novel about domestic resistance to the Nazis during the Second World War. We use modern techniques to re-analyse this case, and show that these successfully locate the Berlin home address of Otto and Elise Hampel, who had distributed hundreds of anti-Nazi postcards, after analysing just 34 of the 214 incidents that took place before their arrest. Our study provides the first empirical evidence to support the suggestion that analysis of minor terrorism-related acts such as graffiti and theft could be used to help locate terrorist bases before more serious incidents occur

Previous issue date: 2020-07-23"Agricultural production has faced increased demands over the last half century from an expanding economy and population. We live in a globalized world, in which agriculture is deeply intertwined in international markets and trade. In this paper, we address the overarching research question: ""What is the impact of trade on agricultural productivity?''. To this end, we present a comprehensive statistical and econometric analysis on the relationship between international trade and agricultural production. We use national-scale data on crop yield, area harvested, production, and trade for the last half century (1961-2016) from the Food and Agricultural Organization of the United Nations. We introduce novel weighting and decomposition analyses to explore the relationship between trade and crop productivity. To determine the causal impact of trade on agriculture we implement instrumental variable (IV) econometric methods. We find that trade has led to an increase in global agricultural productivity over time (e.g. through increased productivity, the intensive margin). Global productivity gains have accrued primarily through the participation of more countries in global trade (e.g. expanding the area of contribution, the extensive margin). Additionally, we find that trade has enabled global crop consumption to increase. These findings indicate that trade openness leads to greater productivity in agriculture in general. Paediatric inflammatory bowel disease – brief update on current practice
No full textPaediatric inflammatory bowel disease (PIBD), consisting of Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis and inflammatory bowel disease unclassified, is a chronic inflammatory condition associated with significant morbidity. The incidence of PIBD is increasing and disease phenotype remains more severe than adult onset disease. Diagnosis of PIBD is often slow and requires referral to specialist services; however, the emergence of faecal calprotectin as a tool for prioritising further investigation, alongside improved use of treatments (including anti-TNF monoclonal antibody therapy) is changing diagnosis and management. Whilst significant challenges remain in the longer-term treatment of PIBD, including growth, nutrition and management of refractory disease there remains a strong research focus on understanding underlying disease pathogenesis and a move towards personalised medicine. This review describes investigations, diagnosis and management of PIBD and presents the most up to date evidence on nutritional and medical management

tools from the arts and humanities for investigation
and dissemination of social science research.
Emerging spaces for knowledge transfer, such as
the World Wide Web, are explored as outlets for
"performative social science". Questions of ethnics
and questions of evaluation which emerge from
performative social science and the use of new
technologies are discussed. Contemporary thinking
in aesthetics is explored to answer questions
of evaluation. The use of the Internet for productions
is proposed as supporting the collective
elaboration of meaning supported by Relational
Aesthetics.
One solution to the ethical problem of performing
the narrations of others is the use of the writer's
own story as autoethnography. The author queries
autoethnography's tendency to tell "sad" stories and
proposes an amusing story, exemplified by "The
One about Princess Margaret" (see Appendix).
The conclusion is reached that the free and open
environment of the Internet sidelines the usual
tediousness of academic publishing and begins to
explore new answers to questions posed about
the evaluation and ethics of performative social
science
