From Thread to Fabric: Anthropology and Its Interpreters
In the Conclusion of the book edited by Hande Birkalan Gedik and Fabiana Dimpfelmeier, the author traces the dynamics between the thread and the fabric, going back to Fredric Barth's seminal 2000 Sydney Mintz lecture, published in 2002. Using different examples, from ideas that speak of global anthropological concerns, to the more particular issues of what it means to produce (and use) the anthropological knowledge, the chapter emphasizes the need to understand different regional traditions. This open access edition of ‘Fabrics of Anthropological Knowledge: Changing Perspectives in Europe and Beyond’,

The model used is that previously developed by Li [Li, 2006]. The aim of this study was to better understand the universal features governing the kinetics of multi-piece scrap melting in a liquid pool. We observed the formation of a solidified shell and interfacial gap both in a single scrap piece as well as in randomly distributed multiple scrap melting cases. It is shown that the multiple scrap pieces agglomerate throughout the sample due to solidified shell formation. The key factors affecting melting kinetics of a heat examined were: heat transfer coefficient, initial solid fraction, initial liquid (preheating) and solid temperatures, scrap size and thermal conductivity. A scaling analysis of simulation data of melting kinetics was conducted, identifying suitable characteristic length and time scales through which the melting kinetics across different parameters and processing conditions could be scaled and thus understood in the context of a unified mathematical description.Master of Applied Science (MASc

}Numerous methods have been developed to monitor the spread of negativity in modern years by eliminating vulgar, offensive, and fierce comments from social media platforms. However, there are relatively lesser amounts of study that converges on embracing positivity, reinforcing supportive and reassuring content in online forums. Consequently, we propose creating an English-Kannda Hope speech dataset, KanHope and comparing several experiments to provide benchmarking for the dataset. The dataset consists of 6,176 user-generated comments in code mixed Kannada crawled from YouTube and manually labelled as bearing hope speech or not-hope speech. In addition, we introduce DC-BERT4HOPE, a dual-channel model that uses the English translation of KanHopeEDI for additional training to promote hope speech detection. The approach achieves a weighted F1-score of 0.756, bettering other models. Henceforth, KanHope aims to instigate research in Kannada while broadly promoting researchers to take a pragmatic approach towards online content that encourages, positive, and supportive
Ergenlik döneminde eğlence amaçlı esrar kullanımının ve subklinik psikoz riskinin, beynin beyaz madde bütünlüğüne ve yapısal bağlantısına etkisi
Cataloged from PDF version of article.Includes bibliographical references (leaves 43-61).The impact of cannabis use on the psychosis risk in the healthy population has been less examined in the literature. Furthermore, previous diffusion tensor imag-ing and structural connectivity studies investigating the effects of cannabis use and psychosis risk offer contradictory results. To address these gaps and inconsistencies in the literature, the author examined whether recreational use of cannabis increases the risk of subclinical psychosis. The author further ex-amined the relationship between recreational cannabis use, subclinical psychosis, and white matter microstructure or structural network connectivity. Twenty-five adolescent cannabis users and 25 demographically matched controls participated in the study. The Cannabis Experience Questionnaire (CEQ) was used to assess cannabis consumption. Subclinical psychosis was evaluated with the Community Assessment of Psychic Experience (CAPE-42) questionnaire. While ROI-based Tract Based Spatial Statistics (TBSS) was used to examine white matter integrity in specified region of interests, Structural Connectivity Analysis was performed to examine brain structural topology. White matter integrity was assessed by four diffusion tensor derived measures: fractional anisotropy, mean diffusivity, axial diffusivity, and radial diffusivity, while structural network topology was examined by several graph-theory metrics: global efficiency, local efficiency and clustering coefficient. In order to eliminate possible confounding effects of alcohol and to-bacco use, weekly alcohol and daily tobacco consumption were also considered. The findings revealed that cannabis users scored higher on subclinical psychosis compared to non-users. ROI-based TBSS analysis indicated that cannabis use and subclinical psychosis do not affect white matter integrity in corpus collosum and superior longitudinal fasciculus. Similarly, the network connectivity parame-ters were not affected by the recreational cannabis use and psychosis risk. These results might indicate that recreational cannabis use increases the psychosis risk in adolescence, but that recreational cannabis use and subclinical psychosis risk together do not affect white matter microstructure and topology.by Hande Ezgi Atmac
Changes in the Intention to Return and the Related Risk Perception Among Residents and Evacuees of Tomioka Town 11 Years After the Fukushima Nuclear Accident
Objective: This study examined temporal trends in risk perception and intention to return to Tomioka among residents and evacuees with the aim of aiding community recovery. Methods: Responses to questionnaires distributed in 2017 and 2021 were compared regarding demographic information, intention to return to Tomioka, desire to consult radiation experts, and risk perception such as anxiety about food consumption, drinking tap water, self-health, and genetic effects. Questionnaires were distributed to all persons registered with the Tomioka town council, both current residents and evacuees. Results: In 2021, the proportion of responders who had already returned/ wanted to return and those who did not want to return increased by 3.2% and 6.8% respectively, and the proportion unsure about returning decreased by 10.1%. Anxiety for self-health decreased by 15.4%, for genetic effects decreased by 24.4%, for food consumption decreased by 30.9%, and the latter 2 remained significant factors among responders unsure of returning and among those who did not want to return in 2021. Conclusions: Risk perception for food and genetic effects was significantly associated with uncertainty about returning or not returning. There is a need for continual monitoring of risk perception trends and implementation of targeted risk communication strategies.長崎大学学位論文 学位記番号:共博(医歯薬)甲第40号 学位授与年月日:令和6年3月19日Author: Varsha Hande, Makiko Orita, Hitomi Matsunaga, Yuya Kashiwazaki, Yasuyuki Taira and Noboru TakamuraCitation: Disaster Medicine and Public Health Preparedness, 17, art. no. e386; 2023Nagasaki University (長崎大学), 博士(医学) (2024-03-19
