    Biodegradation Potential of Oil-based Drill Cuttings Encapsulated with Cement in the Soil Environment

    Biodegradation potential of slabs made from oil-based drill cuttings encapsulated with cement in a soil environment has been experimentally investigated. Results of soil analyses show that physico-chemical and biological characteristics of the soil environment as; pH (5.6 – 3.9), temperature (27.7 – 39.5 oC), redox potential (-114mV – (-80mV), total organic carbon (12.7% - 7.3%), sulphate (0.7 – 0.2mg/l), nitrate (6.7 – 2.2mg/l), moisture content (82-89%) and total microbial count (105 – 1013 cfu/g). Experimental results shows a mass loss of oil base drill cuttings encapsulated with cement slab during the period of the study, indicating approximate linear relationship between mass loss and time. When the log of mass-loss is plotted against time, an approximate linear relationship is obtained confirming a first-order chemical reaction for the biodegradation process. Results of the analyses of the soil sample indicate an environment that has the potential to degrade cement encapsulated oil based drill cuttings

Mir study suggests a paradigm shift from the top-bottom approach to bottom-up approach, which implies the involvement of local people in all phases of developmental projects. This is the essence of participatory _rural appraisal ( PRA)

    Physico-chemical analyses and corrosion effect of produced water on low carbon steel

    The corrosion effect of produced water on low carbon has been investigated using the weight loss technique. The composite produced water sample was found to contain pH (5.3), turbidity (82 NTU), conductivity (8920 Ns/cm), salinity (2394 mg/L), total iron (1.28 mg/L), carbonate (140 mg/L), nitrate (42.74 mg/L) and suphate (nil mg/L). At an exposure time in hours of 120, 240, 360, 480, 600, and 720, the corresponding calculated corrosion rates in many of the coupons were 0.077, 0.153, 0.204, 0.345, 0.352, and 0.370 respectively. Physico-chemical characteristics of the composite produced water sample used for the study has a higher concentration compared with DPR standard for discharge of produced formation water into surface environment.It was assumed that the corrosion of the coupons was due to presence of high chemical matters in the produced water sample.Keywords: corrosion, produced water, environment, rock, salinity, dissolved oxygen.Global Journal of Pure and Applied Sciences Vol. 11(4)2005: 511-51

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.
