Oral history interview with Floyd Akin Jr. and Verna Akin
Floyd and Verna Akin, third-generation owners of the Bradburn-Akin Farm purchased in 1904, discussed the history of the land and the family that claimed it. The original 80-acre farm produced cotton, corn, blackberries, and cattle. In addition to farming, the Bradburns purchased the Remus Rural Telephone Company in 1912 and provided service to over 100 families in the town. The switchboard, located in the family's farmhouse, was in operation until 1958. At the time of the interview, the family farm had grown to 290 acres and was primarily being used as pasture land for cattle.The Oklahoma Centennial Farm Families Collection is comprised of interviews with farm owners and operators whose families have been involved in the farming and/or ranching business in Oklahoma for 100 years or more with properties designated an Oklahoma Centennial Farm or Ranch through the Oklahoma Historical Society
