WOS: 000485852800042Upper Akcay River (Denizli-Mugla, Turkey) is located in Mugla and Denizli province from Buyuk Menderes Basin, in Southern part of Turkey. Kemer Dam Lake separates the river from the downstream and prevents the fish passages. Akcay River is important for aquaculture activities, irrigation and fisheries activities. In upper Akcay River have many threats which affect the study area these are pollution of agricultural and domestic activities, fishing pressure, habitat degradation, over-abstraction of water and barriers. The study was conducted to assess the physical and chemical water quality parameters and fisheries activities of upper Akcay River. The upper Akcay River goes through Kemer Dam Lake, in this river fisheries and aquaculture are practice. This study was carried out between June 2012 and May 2013. Water samples were taken in three stations from upper Akcay River and were analyzed for water temperature, pH, dissolved oxygen, electrical conductivity, amonium nitrogen, nitrite nitrogen, nitrate nitrogen, and orthophosphate. In this study, fish samples were collected by electrofishing and cast net from tree station from the river. River water quality is important because it is used for domestic purpose, drinking, irrigation and aquatic activity. The upper Akcay River is one of the most prominent and a sensitive region that is not too exposed to human effects in Buyuk Menderes Basin. The river can play a vital role in contributing to social economic and development. This study describes the water quality assessment of upper Akcay River in the Southwestern Anatolia. The mean values of overall water quality parameters results have been observed as water temperature (15.15 degrees C), pH (7.58), conductivity (555.25 mu S/cm), TDS (371.44), dissolved oxygen (8.56 mg/L), ammonium (0.09 mg/L), nitrate (3.84 mg/L), orto-phosphate (0.04 mg/L). The economic species caught in the river are Onchorynchus mykiss, Capoeta bergamae, Alburnus escherichii, Vimba mirabilis, Chondrostoma meandrense, Squalius fellowesii, Barbus pectoralis and Carassius gibelio. According to the WPRA, surface water quality of the upper River was classified as level I. At the end of the analyses, it was revealed that the areas is suitable for trout aquaculture and fisheries. The results show that, aquaculture activities has no negative affect in upper Akcay RiverMugla Sitki Kocman University through the UniversityMugla Sitki Kocman University [12/88 -BAP]This study has been sponsored by Mugla Sitki Kocman University through the University grant no 12/88 -BAP. In this study, seasonal and size-related metazoan parasite fauna of Squalius cephalus inhabiting freshwaters in Turkey was determined. During the study, 117 specimens of Squalius cephalus from Akcay stream (Afyonkarahisar, Turkey) were investigated between May 2009 and January 2010. Related to the two microhabitats of the host fish species, four metazoan parasites were recorded; Dactylogyrus vistulae were observed on gills, and Allocreadium isoporum, Rhabdochona denudata and Pomphorhynchus laevis were found in intestine of the host fish. Changes in prevalence and intensity of infection with these parasite species were recorded as follows: for D. vistulae prevalence 27.5%, mean intensity 4.1 +/- 2.2; for A. isoporum 6.7%, 7.5 +/- 7.3; for R. denudata 60.8%, 4.7 +/- 7.7; for P. laevis 69.2%, 8.7 +/- 8.5. Data on the infection parameters were evaluated in relation to environmental and biotic factors, such as seasons, fish size and sex

PORPHYRAZINE IMMOBILIZATION ON POLYESTER FABRIC AND HETEROGENEOUS CATALYTIC APPLICATION ON OXIDATION OF 2-MERCAPTOETHANOL

    No full text
The removal of the thiol compunds is very important in terms of the prevention of environmental pollution. Catalytic oxidation of 2-mercaptoethanol taking place on porphyrazine catalyst that has been immobilized on the fabric was investigated in this research. Experiments at different pH and temperature at five different concentrations of dissolved mercaptan was followed by continuously measuring the oxygen concentration in the solution. Obtained results are very well when compared to literature. Immobilization the porphyrazine on fabric by cationic dyeing process does not change the catalytic effect on the oxidation of 2-mercaptoethanol. So porphyrazines can be used by immobilization on the fabric by dyeing as catalysts

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    No full text
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    No full text
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Creative aspects of south east mediterranean animation

    No full text
Research Background: To celebrate the 60th anniversary of ASIFA (Association Internationale du Film d’Animation), it commissioned special programs to screen at the world’s first and largest animation film festival at Annecy. The Southeast Mediterranean Animation anthology composes a panorama of creative voices coming from countries operating an ASIFA Chapter (Cyprus, Egypt, Greece, Israel, Turkey) complemented by animators from Jordan, Lebanon, and Diaspora. Research Contribution: The selection brings together 10 award-winning films that unveil for the first time the rich potential of the region. Home to the world’s most influential ancient civilizations, Southeast Mediterranean has a long history of conflict and cultural exchange. In this selection, the curators brought together a new generation of animated filmmakers working with different techniques, tackling the region’s difficult themes with humor, grace, and the poetic freedom of animation. The anthology aims to document the region's creative power in animation and create a different sort of dialogue. Research Significance: The anthology was screened within a series of special programs at The Annecy International Animation Film Festival (from 14th to 19th June 2021) under the title ‘The Spirit of ASIFA’. The anthology was accessed through the online platform during the festival. It was also screened at the Apollo Theater at Anymasyros Animation Festival on 25 September 2021.No Full Tex
