Anahtar Sözcükler: Mektup hikâye, Mehmet Vecihi, Sevda-yı Masumane, Yapı ve İzlekThe emergence of literary texts in different forms enables the expansion of the fields of discourse and the creation of feelings and thoughts with different forms. A wide variety of literary genres help artists to position all living and non-living beings in the universe. The letter type and technique, which is seen as a tool, adds another dimension to the forms of expression. The first modern examples of the letter-story in Turkish literature are seen in the Tanzimat period and they survive in prose type texts both in a holistic structure and independently in the text. Mehmet Vecihi, one of the writers of the Servet-i Fünun period with his work called Sevda-yı Masumane, which is written in the form of a letter-story, is one of the well-known artists of his era with his stories and novels. Despite the quantitative excess of the works produced by the author, they are not known today because not transferred to Latin letters. Therefore, it is important to transfer the story of Sevda-yı Masumane, which is one of the works of Mehmet Vecihi, into contemporary Turkish literature, to determine its place in the world of literature and to trace the literary aspect of the author. This study aims to unearth the work called Sevda-yı Masumane, which is considered as a reason for preference in the field of Turkish literature, since it has never been emphasized before, and to be a source for future studies by examining it on the basis of structure-theme. No full text
Objective: It was aimed to determine the effect level of nonpharmacological methods applied by nurses to patients hospitalized in the intensive care unit on the duration of delirium. Materials and methods: For this study, relevant studies were accessed by searching in July–October 2022. After the necessary exclusions were made, 14 studies were included in the study. The total sample size of the studies was 1123. Results: According to the results, nonpharmacological interventions applied by nurses to intensive care patients were found to reduce the duration of delirium (SMD: − 0.625, 95% CI: − 1.1040–0.210; Z = − 2.950, p = 0.003, I 2 = 93.119%). The country of the study (SMD: − 0.047, p = 0.001) and the types of nonpharmacological interventions used (SMD: − 0.062, p = 0.000) influenced the effect size of modulators on the duration of delirium in ICU patients. Conclusion: Nonpharmacological interventions applied by nurses, who have significant responsibilities in the protection and promotion of health, were found to reduce the duration of delirium in intensive care patients. This study shows that nurses, one of the main components of the multidisciplinary team in intensive care, are successful when they apply nonpharmacological interventions well. © 2023, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Royal Academy of Medicine in Ireland.PMID: 3762445

No full text
Background: The enduring impact of children being subjected to sexual abuse is characterized by lasting traumatic effects. Aims: This study aims to assess the influence of perceived parental attitudes on the incidence of sexual abuse in children who have experienced such abuse, comparing them with a control group. Methods: The research took place at the Child Advocacy Center (CAC) of a hospital in northern Turkey and in the pediatric outpatient clinics of the same institution. The study evaluated 101 children who were exposed to sexual abuse and 100 children who were not. Data collection took place between November 2022 and August 2023. The study employed a ‘Descriptive Information Form’ and the ‘Parental Attitude Scale’ for both case and control groups. The t-test for independent samples, descriptive statistics, and logistic regression analysis were used for data analysis. Results: Analysis of scores from the Parental Attitude Scale revealed significantly lower mean scores in acceptance-involvement and strictness-supervision in the case group (p <.05). The mean scores for ‘acceptance-involvement’ (X¯ = 22.82 ± 6.26, X¯ = 25.71 ± 3.89) were highest in the case and control groups. Neglectful attitude (38.6%) was more prevalent in the case group, while the control group exhibited a higher frequency of democratic attitude (37%). In terms of predictors, acceptance-involvement (OR = 1.091, p =.005) and maternal employment (OR = 4.410, p <.001) were identified as the most significant predictors of exposed to sexual abuse. The study’s Cronbach’s alpha value for the scale was α =.743. Conclusion: The study’s findings on parental attitudes suggest a potential connection between children’s exposure to sexual abuse and inadequate parental acceptance, involvement, supervision, and control. © The Author(s) 2024

No full text
This study aimed to examine the disease burden encountered by individuals with COPD, with a comprehensive investigation of the effect of the disease on sexual life. In this study, a phenomenological research design, a qualitative research type, was employed. The study involved 36 individuals diagnosed with COPD. The data collection process involved conducting individual, face-to-face interviews. Colaizzi’s phenomenological analysis method was utilized for the data analysis. The analysis of the data yielded two categories (burdens of the disease and sexual life) and six primary themes (physical effects, mental effects, social effects, difficulties during sexual activity, the spouse’s perspective on the problems, and dealing with sexual problems). The outcomes of this study highlighted the significant burden of COPD on patients and its adverse impact on their sexual lives. Given the complex nature of COPD, a thorough and professional assessment of patients’ sexual well-being, coupled with timely identification of sexual dysfunctions and appropriate interventions, is of utmost importance. © 2024, The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature

Experiences of Turkish mothers of children with autism: a phenomenological study

No full text
The study aimed to explore mothers’ experiences of children with autism using a phenomenological approach. Semi-structured, in-depth interviews were conducted with 18 parents with children attending a special education centre in a northern province of Turkey. Criterion sampling, a form of purposive sampling, was employed to select participants. Interviews continued until data saturation was achieved. All interviews were audio-recorded and transcribed verbatim. Thematic analysis was utilized to analyze the data, and the study adhered to the COREQ checklist for reporting qualitative research. As a result of analyses, three main themes (the process of diagnosis, the effect of the child’s illness on parents and their challenges over time, and considerations regarding the child’s educational journey) and eight sub-themes (feelings and thoughts, reflections on the causes, reactions encountered, emotional effects, social effects, physical effects, perception of social support, and expectations from the educator and the education process) emerged. The study concluded that mothers of children with autism are emotionally, physically, and socially impacted by their child’s condition, facing considerable challenges in coping. In light of these findings, it is recommended that policymakers in our country develop plans that address the difficulties expressed by participants, review and potentially enhance financial and social support for families, and consider increasing special education hours. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2024
