    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     Variations on the Author

    “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    Effect of Non-Thermal Plasma Treatments on Shear Bond Strength Between Monolithic Zirconia and Resin Cement

    Amaç: Bu çalışmanın amacı, farklı plazma tipleri (argon ve oksijen), primer ve kumlama uygulamalarının monolitik zirkonya ile selfadeziv rezin siman arasındaki makaslama bağlanma dayanımına etkisinin incelenmesidir. Gereç ve Yöntemler: Elli adet monolitik zirkonya disk hazırlandı ve sinterlendi. Zirkonya diskler uygulanacak yüzey işlemine göre rastgele beş gruba ayrıldı: Kontrol (herhangi bir yüzey işlemi uygulanmadı), Kumlama (50 ?m Al2O3 ile kumlama), Primer (universal seramik primer uygulaması), Oksjen Plazma (10 dakika oksijen plazma uygulaması) ve Argon Plazma (10 dakika argon plazma uygulaması). Örneklere dual-cure bir rezin siman uygulandı ve ardından 5500 devir termal siklus işlemi yapıldı. Makaslama bağlanma dayanımı testi 1 mm/dk hızında universal bir test cihazında gerçekleştirildi. Veriler tek yönlü ANOVA ve Tukey HSD post-hoc testleri kullanılarak 0.05 anlamlılık düzeyinde analiz edildi. Bulgular: Gruplar arasındaki ortalama makaslama bağlanma dayanımı değerleri arasında istatistiksel olarak anlamlı fark bulundu (P<0.001). Kumlama ve Primer grupları diğer gruplara kıyasla en yüksek bağlanma dayanımı değerlerini gösterdi ancak aralarında fark bulunmadı (P>0.05). Oksijen ve Argon Plazma grupları Kontrol grubuna göre daha yüksek ancak Kumlama ve Primer gruplarına kıyasla daha düşük bağlanma dayanımı değerleri gösterdi (P<0.001). Plazma grupları arasında anlamlı bir fark bulunmadı (P>0.05). Sonuç: Plazma uygulaması rezin ile zirkonya arasındaki bağlantıyı arttırmıştır ancak bu artış kumlama ve primer uygulamaları seviyesinde olmamıştır. Primer ve kumlama uygulamaları birbirine alternatif yöntemler olarak kullanılabilir.Background: The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of different plasma gases (argon and oxygen), primer, and sandblasting applications on the shear bond strength between monolithic zirconia and self-adhesive resin cement. Methods: Fifty monolithic zirconia discs were prepared and sintered. The zirconia discs were randomly divided into five groups according to surface treatments: Control (no surface treatment was applied), Sandblasting (sandblasting with 50-?m Al2O3), Primer (a universal ceramic primer application), Oxygen Plasma (10 minutes oxygen-plasma treatment) and Argon Plasma (10 minutes argon-plasma treatment). A dual-cure resin cement was applied to the specimens, and a thermal cycling process was done for 5500 cycles. The shear bond strength test was performed on a universal testing machine at a speed of 1 mm/min. Data was analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Tukey HSD post-hoc tests with a significance level of 0.05. Results: A statistically significant difference was found between the mean shear bond strength values among the groups (P<0.001). Sandblasting and Primer groups had the highest bond strengths in comparison to the other groups, although there was no significant difference between them (P>0.05). Oxygen and Argon Plasma groups showed higher bond strength values compared with the Control group (P<0.001), however, showed lower values than the Sandblasting and Primer groups (P<0.05). No significant difference was found between the plasma groups (P>0.05). Conclusion: Plasma application significantly improved the bonding between resin and zirconia, but this improvement was not at the level of sandblasting and primer applications. Primer and sandblasting treatments can be utilized as alternatives to each other

    Tam seramik kronlar biouyumlulukları ve estetik görünümleri nedeniyle anterior ve posterior dişlerde başarıyla kullanılmaktadır. Mikrosızıntı, tam seramik kronların klinik başarısını etkileyen önemli bir faktördür. Bu restorasyonlar, ısıyla presleme tekniği ve CAD/CAM sistemleri de içeren çeşitli sistemlerle üretilebilmektedir. Bu çalışmanın amacı ısıyla preslenebilir seramiklerden olan IPS Empress eMax ve CAD/CAM seramiklerden Zirkonzahn restorasyonların mikrosızıntılarını değerlendirmektir. Tam seramik kronlar, iki farklı marjinal bitiş dizaynına sahip dişler üzerinde, iki farklı rezin siman kullanılarak simante edildi. Toplamda 80, her grup için 10 premolar diş kullanıldı. Örneklere 5000 termal siklus uygulandı, %0,5 bazik fuksin ile boyandı ve stereomikroskopta incelenmek üzere kesitler alındı. Verilerin istatistiksel analizi yapıldı. Preparasyon tipleri arasında istatistiksel olarak fark bulunmazken (p>0,05), tam seramik sistemler ve rezin simanlar arasında mikrosızıntı testlerinde önemli ölçüde fark bulunmuştur (p<0,05). IPS Empress eMax press tam seramik sistem ve RelyX U200 rezin siman önemli ölçüde düşük mikrosızıntı değerleri göstermiştir.All-ceramic crowns offer good biocompatibility and esthetics appearence have been used successfully to restore anterior and posterior teeth. Microleakage are important factor that affect the longevity of all-ceramic crowns. These restarations can be fabricated with a variety systems, including the heat-pressed technik and CAD/CAM system. The purpose of this study were to evaluate the microleakage of heat pressed all-ceramic crowns made from IPS Empress eMax and CAD/CAM all ceramic crowns made from Zirkonzahn. All-ceramic crowns were cemented with two different resin cements on the prepared teeth with two different finish lines, chamfer and rounded shoulder. Ten teeth for each group and totally 80 premolar teeth were used. Samples were thermocycled (5000), stained with 0,5% basic fuschine, sectioned and examined under stereomicroscope. Data were statistical analyzed. There were no statistically signifant differences preparations types (p>0,05). However all ceramic systems and resin cements types for microleakage test showed significant difference (p<0,05).     We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
