Corak Ilmi tafsir al-Maraghi karya Syekh Ahmad Mustafa Al-Maraghi
Influence of Soil Exchangeable Cations on Growth, Nutrient Uptake and Physiology of Oil Palm Seedlings
Increasing the efficiency of nutrient uptake can significantly reduce the cost of production, since fertilizer cost is about 30% of total cost of oil palm production. Despite many agronomic trials on the response of oil palm to various fertilizers, there were few published information on the multidisciplinary study of physiological responses with cations e.g. potassium (K), calcium (Ca) and magnesium (Mg). Therefore, this study is necessary to increase efficiency in the oil palm nutrient management system through multidisciplinary aspects of soil and plant physiology. The trial was conducted in the nursery of the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB) Research Station in Lahad Datu, Sabah. Oil palm seedlings were grown in polybag filled with two types of soil i.e Semporna Family which contain high exchangeable Ca or Lumpongan Family with low exchangeable Ca. Semporna soil was tested at 32 levels of K and Mg and Lumpongan was tested at 33 levels of K, Ca and Mg with three replicates. Among the parameters studied were vegetative measurements, relative chlorophyll content and leaf relative water content. Destructive samplings of whole plants were done and seedlings were separated into rachis, pinnae, stem and roots. The tissues were then used to determine K, Mg and Ca concentrations and uptake. Soil samples were taken at the beginning and the end of trials and subsequently analysed for cations content. Leaf gas exchange parameters were measured using a portable infrared gas analyser two weeks before the final destructive sampling. Pre-treatment analysis showed that the exchangeable K, Mg and Ca in Lumpongan soil were 0.35, 6.74 and 6.07 cmol (+) kg-1 respectively. Meanwhile, in Semporna soil the exchangeable K, Mg and Ca were 0.17, 1.22 and 33.50 cmol (+) kg-1. Application of cation fertilizers significantly increased respective exchangeable cations in both soils. There were non significant increases in seedling dry matter components with regards of cations treatments in both soils. The concentration and uptake of K in seedling components were increased significantly by K fertilizer in both soils. Magnesium fertilizer was not recommended on Lumpongan soil but 6.69 g of Mg per seedling are needed to sustain the growth of seedling in Semporna soil. The seedling recovery efficiency for K and Ca in Lumpongan soil was about 3.65 and 1.21%, respectively. Meanwhile, in Semporna soil the recovery efficiency for K and Mg was about 4.56 and 2.54%, respectively. This study showed that total cation in oil palm seedling leaves was largely determined by soil exchangeable calcium rather than K or Mg. The proportion of individual tissue cation to total cations was fairly constant, i.e about 29% if the soil exchangeable calcium is high (> 25 cmol (+) kg-1). This was considered sufficiently balance for oil palm nutrient requirement. However, excessive amount of exchangeable Mg in soil (> 4.75 cmol (+) kg-1) such as Lumpongan soil resulted in an imbalance proportion of individual tissue cation to total cation. The oil palm seedling vegetative growth, leaf tissues turgidity and chlorophyll content exhibited less sensitivity to cation treatments as indicated by non significant difference in both soils. Excessive amount of Ca in Semporna soil contributed to low shoot to root ratio of the seedlings by 7 to 9% as compared to Lumpongan soil. The photosynthesis rate on Lumpongan and Semporna soils ranged from 8.52 to 9.45 μmol m-2s-1 and 7.07 to 8.66 μmol m-2s-1, respectively. This implies that, cations treatments did not significantly reduce the photosynthesis rate. It was also concluded that the stomata conductance and intercellular CO2 concentrations of seedlings in both soils were adequate to support leaf gas exchange as indicated by non significant different between treatments. In conclusion, combinations of K1 (35.11 g K) + Mg0 (0 g Mg) + Ca1 (14 g Ca) and K2 (70.22 g K) + Mg1 (6.69 g Mg) were recommended for sustaining optimum growth, nutrient uptake and physiological requirement in oil palm seedlings grown in Lumpongan and Semporna soils, respectively. These combinations take into account the total dry matter production, uptake, recovery efficiency and physiological characteristics of oil palm seedlings at each cation levels
Medina in the Ayyubid period and the Shi'a influence upon it
The underlying concern of this thesis is to shed light on the history of Medina during the Ayyubid period, discussing and analysing the Shi'a emergence in the city in that time, and the transfer to them of power, the judiciary and the key religious positions. It also discusses their influence over the various facets of life there. The study comprises an introduction, six central chapters and a conclusion. The first chapter includes a general introduction, beginning with a historical background of pre-Islamic Medina, and then proceeds to present an overview of the importance of the subject and the reasons for choosing it. It then moves on to an exposition of the key issues which the study will discuss, and the methodology which it follows. The second chapter provides a concise account of the significance of Medina in the Islamic sources (the Qur'an and the hadith), discussing the role of the city and its inhabitants in their support for and propagation of Islam. It also gives a short account of the history of Medina following the death of the Prophet up until the Umayyad period, and briefly discusses the key historical events during that period. The
third chapter examines the state of the Islamic World prior to and during the Ayyubid period, and discusses the key historical events that occurred in Medina at that time and
their connection with what was happening in the Islamic World. The fourth chapter studies and analyses the emergence of the Shi'a in Medina during the Ayyflbid period, and examines certain accounts of this. It also tracks the history of the Shia in Medina prior to the Ayyübid period by providing critical examples of some of the accounts on the subject. The reasons behind the emergence of the Twelver Shia doctrine in Medina during the
Ayyübid period will also be studied and analysed, and the chapter will explain how the Shi'a came to assume the key political and religious offices in the city. Their relations with other Shi'a sects will also be examined, and the way in which their control of Medina came to an end will be discussed. The fifth chapter discusses political life in Medina during the Ayyubid period and the influence of the Shia upon it, studies and analyses the political
relations between the emirs of Medina and each of the neighbouring tribes, the emirs of Mecca, the sultans of the Ayyubid state and those of the Banü Rasül in Yemen, and
explains the influence of the Shi'a on these relations and the role which they played in the political life in the city. The sixth chapter discusses social life in Medina during the Ayyubid period and the influence of the Shia upon it, by studying the composition of civil society and its groupings, the distinguishing features apparent in each grouping, and the elements of social life and its economic conditions, as well as the constructive interplay between them, in order to present an accurate picture of the city's social life. The seventh chapter discusses the state of learning in the city during the Ayyübid period and the Shia
influence upon it, by examining some of the accounts mentioned by certain historians and travellers. It will also include a refutation of these negative accounts by presenting a thorough, extensive description of the state of learning in Medina, through studying the teaching lectures which were current in the Prophet's Mosque and the madrasas of that time, the kuttabs, the syllabuses, the teaching methods, the most notable 'ulama' and their key works, the role of the Sunni 'ulama' in the flourishing of learned activity and, lastly, the Shi'a influence upon it. The eighth chapter summarises and discusses the study's most
important findings and draws conclusions from them, before making suggestions for future research
Assessment on pollen carrying capacity and pollen viability of Elaeidobius kamerunicus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae)
Oil palm, also known as Elaeis guineensis Jacq (Arecales: Arecaceae), depends greatly on the pollinating weevil Elaeidobius kamerunicus (Coleoptera: Curculionidae) for fruit production. Despite this, information on the pollen-carrying capacity of E. kamerunicus is still lacking. This study assessed the pollen-carrying capacity (PCC) and pollen viability (PV) of E. kamerunicus in two oil palm plantations with different soil types in Sabah, Malaysia. The pollination contribution of adult weevils to sex and body surface area (BSA) was also investigated. Adult weevils were collected from both male and female inflorescences and kept in microcentrifuge tubes containing pollen grain germination medium solutions to assess their pollination contribution. Results indicated a significant difference for BSA between sexes. Mann-Whitney test showed greater PCC for male weevils than female weevils for FELDA Sahabat and Long Danau from male inflorescence. PCC for female inflorescence showed no significant differences between male and female weevils for both oil palm plantations. PV showed no significant difference between sexes but differed significantly between oil palm plantations due to better soil quality in clay textured soil. Based on the results, pollination contribution by male adult weevils was greater than female adult weevils for both plantations

Terminalia catappa Leaves Effects on Aquatic Primary Productivities
Terminalia catappa leaf, also known as Ketapang leaf, is well known for its medicinal properties and long history of use in aquaculture. Studies on the effects of leaf extracts on fish productivity are scarce. This study performed a time-series observation of ground young and mature T. catapppa leaves on tropical phytoplankton productivity. The young and mature leaves were prepared as fine powder separately. For the time-series experiment, 10 grams of each ground leaf were added to 10 L of lake water containing phytoplankton and incubated at room temperature with ambient illumination. The chlorophyll a saturation optical density was quantified on alternate days using a spectrophotometer and the data were analysed using Origin 6.0 Software. On Day 11, the chlorophyll a percentage had decreased by 73% and 81% in the control and mature leave treatment carboys, respectively. Meanwhile, the sample treated with young leaves of T. catappa showed only a 29% decrease. The results have shown that phytoplankton treated with young T. catappa powder demonstrated a positive but weak correlation (R² = 0.123), represented by the chlorophyll saturations. This study supported the hypothesis that young T. catappa leaves sustained phytoplankton growth
