Design and maintenance at public toilet / Ahmad Akmal Ahmad Dahlan

Unfortunately, without talking about the problems of the public toilet it becomes harder to clearly identify the issues and provide the appropriate design solutions. This paper is examining the specific problems of the public toilet and the way in which design is addressing these problems. Public toilet have a few functional problems that have not been properly addressed. The issue of cleanliness and hygiene has been the concern of humankind for a few centuries. It seems that during the past century cleanliness and hygiene have been experienced visually. In the early 20th century hygiene became an aesthetic, which society adopted as the means for evaluating the level of cleanliness of the space. However, this is relevant to the perceived cleanliness and not necessarily to the actual level of hygiene .Another problem seems to be the lack of consideration to the gender identity of the user. The binary division into male/female restrooms is based on biological gender and not gender identity. The design of the semi public male restroom assumes that a man is willing to freely expose his penis in front of other men. Urinal phobia is not being taken into account in the design of the space. This latest trend is making use of creative forward thinking, which is based on better understanding of the user needs. Although this trend does not directly address the problems of the public toilet, it helps to create a unique experience for the visitor of the space. It appears that design today has a better understanding of the requirements of male users of the public toilet

    Get PDF
This study is about the formation of free radical following exposure to technetium-99m (99mTc). The objectives are to assess the presence of free radical following administration of 99mTc-HMPAO and also to assess the optimum time and activity to induce the free radical formation. This 99mTc will irradiate and produce the free radical known as auger electrons. The method that used in this study is as follow. The 99mTc is produced by the 99mTc generator. Then it must undergo the radionuclide purity test to measure the purity of 99mTc by the generator. After that, the 99mTc is form a complex with the Hexamethylpropyleneamine oxime (HMPAO). The amount of complex that formed was measured to get the purity standard. Then, the complex will be labelled into the cell and the percentage uptake of complex by cell will be recorded. The last stage of this experiment is the thiobarbituric acid reactive substance. This test is done to detect the presence of free radical that form in the cell by using the malondialdehyde (MDA) standard curve

Additive manufacturing based on 3d printing is widely used in the current market. Even complex products can be manufactured using 3d printing. As the demand for 3d printing keep on increasing, the demand for the filament are also increasing. Advantages of using 3d printing are it can save material by recycling it, making prototype easily and does not need mould. The purpose of developing this machine is to support the additive manufacturing industry. There are a lot of ways to develop a mini extrusion machine from previous research. However, there are no specific size, components and material needed to build the machine. So, this project is intended to research and design a filament extrusion machine with optimum method and provide reason on why the size, components and materials are choose. Based on the research made, a detail design for the Filament extrusion machine was generated. Besides, to strengthen the choice of design made, an analysis on the critical components of mini extrusion machine were conducted

Voiced-unvoiced segmentation using time-domain features for improved speech recognition system / Ahmad Akmal Mohd Rosley

    Get PDF
This thesis explores a method for voiced-unvoiced segmentation using time-domain features to enhance speech recognition systems. Voiced unvoiced segmentation is the process of identifying both voiced and unvoiced parts of a spoken stream. Voiced unvoiced segmentation in speech recognition often struggles with balancing accuracy and computational efficiency, with simpler methods failing in complex conditions and frequency-domain approaches being computationally demanding. V-UV segmentation was designed to increase accuracy and decrease computation time in data processing. The study utilizes a database of audio recordings from 51 female speakers uttering three isolated English words. Preprocessing methods, such as normalization and pre emphasis, are used to prepare audio data for analysis. V-UV segmentation utilizes ZCR and STE to separate voiced and unvoiced frames from the speech signal where only voiced frames are the focus of the feature extraction procedure, which uses LPC to extract coefficients that reflect the spectral envelope of the spoken signals. Following segmentation, the findings show considerable frame reduction percentages for each word, "Aluminium" showed a frame reduction of 24.95%, "Better" showed a frame reduction of 31.95%, and "Communication" showed a frame reduction of 40.58%. Moderate accuracy was demonstrated by the DA classifier utilizing Mahalanobis distance, where the highest overall accuracy recorded was 73.33% for LPC order 19, offering the greatest speech signal representation for classification in the proposed system

This research report is written to explain and examine the performance of the Malaysian mutual funds. The survey will consist of mutual funds available in Malaysia, which is classify in Conventional and Islamic mutual funds. The objective of this research is to identify whether the Islamic mutual fund's performance can outperform Conventional mutual fund after the crisis. The survey will be using the data available from year 2004-2006 for before the crisis performance, 2007-2008 during the crisis, and 2009-2016 for after the financial crisis performance. According to Mansor and Bhatti (2011) research from 1996 to 2009, on average the Islamic portfolio provide slightly less return compared to Conventional portfolio. However, the Islamic portfolio is riskier than Conventional portfolio. Furthermore, the Islamic mutual fund was found to have better performance than Conventional mutual fund only in a bearish market or during the global financial crisis (Mansor, 2012). During the study, the researcher found that the Islamic mutual funds did outperform the Conventional funds during the crisis period 2007-2008, but after the crisis period ends, the Conventional funds outperform the Islamic funds back

    Get PDF
Micromechanical flying insects (MFI) is a miniature aerial unmanned vehicle (UAV) composed of body, wings and control system to operate the mechanism. Studies have been developed since 1998 in the University of California, Berkeley, USA to produce biomimetic robotic insects. Interpreting these prior studies has lead to a new design idea that will improve the mass, size and linkages system. This study focuses on the flying mechanism component of the MFI and also to select the most suitable design before producing the prototype. Three different designs with different mechanisms were proposed. Morphological chart analysis is used to determine the best mechanism based on few parameters. Mass, size, material and linkages are the substantially important consideration for the design. Solidworks software is used to analyze these designs. Mechanism 3 is chosen as the best design for the study with a total wingspan of 25.62 cm. Mass of the mechanism is 0.062 kg and the material used for the prototype is ABS. Two types of different size of binary links were chosen as the linkages system. Consideration on manufacturing the prototype also has taken to make sure dimension for each parts of the mechanism is capable to fabricate

Determinants of corporate hedging practice in Malaysia / Ahmad Akmal Sadiq Ahmad Suhaimi

    Get PDF
Risk management is formally defined as the process by which an organization assesses and addresses its risk. It helps an organization to identify, evaluate, analyse, monitor, and mitigate the risks that threaten the achievement of an organization's strategic objectives in a disciplined and systematic way. It has always been a matter of continuous concern to most corporations, especially, the changes in the exchange rate have been a major risk to firms involved in the imports and exports. Therefore, to minimize the risk associated, hedging can reduce underinvestment costs since it reduces the probability of financial distress by shielding future stream cash flow from the changes in the exchange rates. Choice of hedging instruments and determinants of derivatives hedging seems to reflect decision making of managers in developed countries as they tend to have less information asymmetry, efficient market for corporate control, better institutional and legal systems. Hence, this research intends to show the determinants of corporate hedging practice would be different outside developed countries, specifically, Malaysia due to different firm specific characteristics
