Chuaigh suas le 50,000 Éireannach go dtí an Airgintín sa tréimhse idir lár na naoú haoise déag agus an bhliain 1920. Luann Kelly (2009: 44) go raibh 36,800 duine a rugadh in Éirinn ag cur fúthu san Airgintín sa bhliain 1891. San alt seo pléitear roinnt de na foilseacháin a bhunaigh na hÉireannaigh seo ina dtír nua, go sonrach The Standard, The Southern Cross agus Fianna. Déantar beagán plé freisin ar thuairimí na nÉireannach san Airgintín i leith na Gaeilge agus i leith choincheap an náisiúin Éireannaigh – téamaí a bhí go mór i mbéal an phobail in Éirinn féin ag an am. Déanfar plé faoi leith ar William Bulfin, nó ‘Che Buono’ mar a thugtaí air, ar na deartháireacha Mulhall agus ar Patrick McManus, daoine a raibh baint thábhachtach acu le bunú agus le cur chun cinn an phreasa Éireannaigh-Airgintínigh sa tréimhse atá faoi chaibidil. Úsáidfear na foinsí iriseoireachta seo freisin le léargas a thabhairt ar mheon na nÉireannach i leith a dtíre nua agus ar cheisteanna féiniúlachta mar a bhain siad leo.peer-reviewe

Introduction. Library X is an academic library in Jakarta, Indonesia. Library X has provided Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC) as a tool to provide information related to the collection. However, sometimes the information appears does not show high relevancy. One way to solve this problem is to develop user need based-book recommendation system. The purpose of this study is to create personalization model of book recommendations in Library X. Data Collection Method. The method used in this study was association rule mining using Apriori algorithm. Results and Discussions. The results showed that the book relationships for the minimum support was 0.1% and the minimum confidence was 10% and generated 42 association rules. It is noted that 657 (Accounting) and 658 (Management) are found to support for 2.6% with the confidence level for 14%. Conclusions. Book recommendation is formulated by selecting the rule with maximum support and confidence. The recommendation system is designed to be integrated to web application and user’s e-mail

The author presents a reconstruction of the experience she had in Pontedera when she saw some performances of the Workcenter of Jerzy Grotowski and Thomas Richards and took part to some works of the group. The text is composed by two parts: a descriptive and a theoretical one. In the first part, that she called “paintings”, the author tries to present his memory of what she saw and of what happened. Two plays are described, namely L’heure fugitive and The Underground, from the Focused Research Team in Art as a Vehicle, directed by Thomas Richards. After that, there is a description of open rehearsal of Thomas Richards’ group, in which the actors did singing exercises. The last activity was instead a singing session with Mario Biagini and his team, where the author and her colleagues participated actively. In the theoretical part, the author exposes her reflections concerning performances and other experiences, by focusing in particular on their meaning as well as on their major points of interest

This volume documents the Proceedings of the 1st Workshop on Resources and Techniques for User and Author Profiling in Abusive Language (ResT-UP), held online on 12 May 2020 as part of the LREC 2020 conference (International Conference on Language Resources and Evaluation). The workshop aimed at bringing together researchers and scholars working on author profiling and automatic detection of abusive language on the Web, e.g., cyberbullying or hate speech, with a twofold objective: improving the existing LRs, e.g., datasets, corpora, lexicons, and sharing ideas on stylometry techniques and features needed for profile information extraction and classification. ResT-UP targeted Profiling scholars and research groups, experts in Statistic and Stylistic Analysis of texts as well as computational linguists who investigate author profile and personality both in short texts (social media posts, blog texts and email) and in long texts (such as pamphlets, (fake) news and political documents). ReST-UP represented an opportunity to share profiling experiments with the scientific community and to show automatic detection techniques of abusive language on the Web. Despite the cancellation of LREC 2020 due to the COVID-19 international emergency, ResT-UP was organized online on Microsoft Teams on May 12th 2020 and the programme included three oral presentations and featured an invited talk by Paolo Rosso. ResT-UP was attended by about fifty representatives of academic and industrial organisations

"Coi libri o col mondo?" Effetti di straniamento e spaesamento mancato nel "Viaggio e maravigliose avventure" di Francesco Contarini

This paper investigates the forms and effects of displacement in Viaggio e maravigliose avventure d’un veneziano ch’esce per la prima volta dalle lagune e si reca a Padova e a Milano, published anonymously in Milan in 1818. According to Luigi Catucci, the author is Francesco Contarini, who translated many travel books for the editor Sonzogno between 1816 and 1817: this would explain the noticeable intertextual dialogue between the Viaggio and other travel writings, both fictional and non-fictional. Some allusions to Vasco de Gama’s and James Cook’s geographical explorations reveal the author’s interest in travel as an anthropological experience, while quotations from Swift and De Maistre suggest a familiarity with the literary conventions and the most recent renewal of the European novel. From a theoretical point of view, the essay examines the interaction between travel literature, (anti-)novel, récit excentrique, and parody, in order to show that literary contamination works as an estrangement device. At the same time, the theoretical interpretation is evaluated (from an analytical and interpretative point of view) in relation to the narrative techniques through which Contarini expresses the alienation-effect of the first-person dramatized narrator, prompting a strong sense of disorientation in the reader (but not in the main character)

Fuzzy-based Spectral Alignment for Correcting DNA Sequence from Next Generation Sequencer

Next generation sequencing technology is able to generate short read in large numbers and in a relatively short in single running programs. Graph based DNA sequence assembly used to handle these big data in assembly step. The graph based DNA sequence assembly is very sensitive to DNA sequencing error. This problem could be solved by performing an error correction step before the assembly process. This research proposed fuzzy inference system (FIS) model based spectral alignment method which can detect and correct DNA sequencing error. The spectral alignment technique was implemented as a pre-processing step before the DNA sequence assembly process. The evaluation was conducted using Velvet assembler. The number of nodes yielded by the Velvet assembler become a measure of the success of error correction. The results shows that FIS model based spectral alignment created small number of nodes and therefore it successfully corrected the DNA reads

Human hearing system is capable of identifying sounds or audio signals, especially sounds that are familiar in their daily lives. However, recognizing chord sequences played in some kind of music is not an easy task. People need big effort to train their sense of hearing so that they can recognize chords. This condition is also valid for a computer system. Finding the key and labeling the chords automatically from music are of great use for those who want to do harmonic analysis of music. This research is about to recognize chords played and recorded by a guitar instrument. There are 24 chords used in this research. MFCC was used as a feature extraction using 13 and 26 cepstral coefficients. Each chord signal which has been extracted is modeled using artificial neural networks as a method of pattern recognition. This research results in an accuracy level above 90%. From the research that has been done, it can be concluded that modeling using back propagation neural networks on guitar chords recognition has an accuracy of 92%, better than the codebook method performed in the previous research which resulted in an accuracy of 88%. An increasing accuracy level is shown by using artificial neural networks for pattern recognitio
