It is known about the effects of air polluted by mobile and stationary sources on human health, with which it is of interest to determine the air quality in cities. Likewise, he is known about the multiple benefits of physical exercise in older adults. However, there is no evidence in our context on the effect of air quality on aerobic capacity in this population and specifically those who exercise in open spaces such as parks. Therefore, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of air quality on aerobic capacity in older adults who perform physical exercise outdoors. For this, a longitudinal quasi-experimental study (8 weeks of intervention) was carried out in 16 older adults who met the eligibility criteria and were divided into two groups: experimental (n=6) and control (n=10). Air quality was established through the AQI application and aerobic capacity (VO2Max) with the Rockport test. As a result, a significant difference was obtained in the VO2max value (pre-post) in the experimental group while the control group did not. A statistically significant negative association was established between VO2max and air quality in the experimental group compared to the control group.

The COVID-19 pandemic has had a negative impact on older adults (Gutiérrez et ál., 2020) affecting healthy behaviors such as physical activity, since one of the strategies to reduce contagion has been social isolation (Celis-Morales et ál., 2020) and likewise, it has been possible to show worldwide that social isolation has had a negative impact on the levels of physical activity in the population (Fitbit Staff, 2020) (Pinazo-Hernandis, 2020) and the quality of life (Cunningham et ál., 2020). On the other hand, the benefits of physical activity / exercise have been widely demonstrated for the prevention of NCDs and improvement of the quality of life in older adults (Martín Aranda, 2018) and with the confinement situation, technology provides the opportunity to learn to use new resources to intervene in different populations adults (Gutiérrez et ál., 2020) becoming a possibility for improving health and maintaining levels of physical activity of this population during the confinement situation (Gutiérrez et ál., 2020) (Celis-Morales et ál., 2020). Although it finds evidence from world organizations (ACSM, WHO, APTA, IPTOP, WCPT, INPTRA) on recommendations for the maintenance of physical health during confinement for older adults, which indicate different types of activities or exercises that use electronic devices to access online videos and online platforms for telephones (Sepúlveda-Loyola et ál., 2020), however, when exercising at home sometimes the indications turn out to be very general and not being according to the specific population (Márquez Arabia, 2020) and that is why health should design physical exercise programs for this population mediated by technology (Sepúlveda-Loyola et ál., 2020). Likewise, there are online resources on activity and physical exercise for older adults (Said et ál., 2020). However, there is little evidence on the implementation of intervention programs at home during confinement due to COVID-19 (Vitale, y otros, 2020) and specifically mediated by virtuality (Gutiérrez et ál., 2020) (Cohen-Mansfield et ál., 2021). Therefore, the objective of this study is to evaluate the effect of a virtual physical exercise program of the Santo Tomás University, Bucaramanga on the quality of life in adults. As a result, it is expected to generate a positive impact on the quality of life and also the promotion of healthy habits such as the practice of physical exercise through virtual or remote intervention in older adults in confinement that adapts to the expectations of this population.

The elderly is any person aged 60 and over (WHO) and represents 11% of the world population (WHO). In recent years, there has been an increase in Non-Communicable Chronic Diseases (NCDs) in this population, which has become a national and international public health problem. The increase in NCDs in older adults may be due to lifestyle, which has been related to nutritional status. Both lifestyle and nutritional status have been related to an increase in NCDs such as diabetes, obesity and hypertension in older adults. Objective: To determine the lifestyle, nutritional habits and clinical history of older adults belonging to physical exercise programs at Centros Vida and Universidad Santo Tomás, Bucaramanga. Methodology: Descriptive study. The FANTASTIC Questionnaire to assess lifestyle, the MNA® Questionnaire for nutritional status and step 1 of the WHO surveillance method, STEPwise, was applied to 63 older adults between 60-85 years of age. Results: The average age of the deployed population was 65.60 ± 7.2 years. 77.7% of presentation presented a good lifestyle; 61.9% had a normal nutritional status and arterial hypertension was the clinical history with the highest prevalence (50.7%). Conclusions: Most of the older adults belonging to a physical exercise program present a good lifestyle and a nutritional state, however, they present diseases such as arterial hypertension.Profesional en Cultura Física, Deporte y Recreaciónhttps://www.ustabuca.edu.co/Pregrad

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    Get PDF
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

    Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis
