Floor Acceleration Amplification Factor in Yielding of Moment Resisting RC frame Structures
138-146Structural elements have been designed as load-bearing as well as non-load bearing. Non-structural components
(NSCs) represent the non-load-bearing elements of the structures. Many provisions have been provided for seismic design of
primary components of structures, but limited prescription has been provided for seismic designing of NSCs. This paper
describes the behaviour of the acceleration-sensitive NSCs for different ranges of ground motions. For this study, the four
different height of moment-resisting RC frame models, fixed at the base of the structure have been considered. With
17 far-field seismic ground motions, the building models have been investigated using the incremental dynamic approach.
To analyze the floor response spectra, building periods, and structures ductility parameters, based on this proposed the
acceleration amplification factors of the NSCs
Fingerprint Matching Using Rotational Invariant Orientation Local Binary Pattern Descriptor and Machine Learning Techniques
The objective of this article is to propose rotation invariant fingerprint descriptor, and a faster and better generalized performance classifier. The author proposes a new multi-resolution analysis based fingerprint descriptor, computed from fingerprint orientation pattern called as orientation local binary pattern (OLBP). The feature vector is constructed by concatenating the OLBP histograms obtained from tessellated ROI of distorted fingerprint images. Secondly, the author proposes a hybrid classifier, which combines a powerful extreme learning machine (ELM) and a well generalized resilient propagation (RPROP). Finally, they propose two hybrid training algorithms using ELM and RPROP. The matching accuracy of 99.9% validates the performance of the proposed OLBP features and the proposed hybrid classification algorithms perform better as compared to the original ELM.</jats:p
Seismic acceleration amplification factor for pin supported moment resisting RC frame structures for Chi-Chi earthquake
189-200The Seismic forces, acting on the non-structural component, are different with respect to the lateral force observed by the different design codes. For remarking the behavior of the structural components during dynamic action, large numbers of research were done as compared to the secondary or non-structural components of the structures. The behavior of inertia force acting on the non-structural components changes along with the altitude of the structure. The inertia force existing on nonstructural components depends on the acceleration amplification factor. In this paper, five different RC moment-resisting frame models as 2,4,6,8 and 10 stories, with pin support conditions are considered. The linear time history method is used for the analysis of all RC frame models with different range (0.01g to 0.32g) of ground motion data. Determine the acceleration amplification factor for all these models and compared with the previously models. It is observed that no previous model
performed satisfactory results. Therefore, to proposed the amplification model which not only depends on the height of the building, natural period of the building but also depends on the range of the Peak Ground Acceleration (PGA).The proposed model is compared with the previous renowned models, It is detected that the proposed model performs better results with respect to other models
Harnessing Dual-Functionality of N, F-Codoped SnO2 Material for Efficient Hydrogen Generation and Dye Degradation
The need for pollution-free energy generation and water treatment is urgent, but more significantly, affordable energy supplies are currently the focus of study. Hydrogen is one of the energy sources that is thought to be pure and clean. This work uses N, F-codoped SnO2 nanoparticles for photocatalytic hydrogen production and dye degradation. At room temperature, a straightforward synthetic method based on solutions has been used to easily incorporate N and F into the SnO2 lattice. Utilizing various scavengers, the photocatalytic water splitting process was carried out. A combination of sacrificial agents was used to get the highest possible hydrogen output. Numerous methods were employed to characterize the generated nanoparticles. Using powder X-ray diffraction and electron microscopy, the phase identity and surface characteristics of the N, F-codoped SnO2 nanoparticles were verified, whereas the elemental percentage composition was confirmed through X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy. A wide bandwidth is seen in the Raman spectra, which suggests the presence of oxygen vacancies and structural disorder brought about by the addition of N and F dopants. In light of this, this work investigates the possibility of N, F-codoped SnO2 as a photocatalyst for photocatalytic hydrogen generation and creates new avenues for the production of energy and environmental concerns. One of the authors, Sanjeev Kumar is thankful to Council of Scientific & Industrial Research (CSIR) for Senior Research Fellowship. Analysis of Routing and Forwarding Protocols in Opportunistic Networks
AbstractThe role of opportunistic networks can be crucial in data transmission. Here message forwarding depends solely on node co-operation. Opportunistic networks use store-and-carry forward mechanism. The frequent disconnection of nodes is very common in these networks because of dynamic nature of mobile nodes. Therefore use of suitable routing protocol is very important in message delivery. In this paper, three social context aware routing protocols that support message forwarding in opportunistic networks i.e. HiBop, Propicman and CAOR are analysed in terms of performance metrics viz. delivery probability, overhead ratio, number of hops and delay. The results show that CAOR outperform the other two protocols in all these aspects. The delivery probability of CAOR is higher whereas the overhead ratio, number of hops and delay are less than those for HiBop and Propicman routing protocols
Rapporter la Shoah à travers un discours narratif- Célébration de l’écriture
International audienceJonathan Littell is a journalist by nature; by the very problematic he develops in his writings;by the style of writing; and by the treatment of his narratives. While penning the Kindly ones(Originally written in French with the title, Les Bienveillantes), he adopts the tone of aMemoir writer thereby informing the reader about the history of anti-Semitism in the pre-war Europe and then delves into its causes and aftermaths. His ambitious novel forms a cusp between literary and journalistic writings: literary because there is a literary pact involved with the reader, in the form of a pseudo-autobiography of a Nazi officer; fiction is thereby a predominant factor, journalistic because the stark reality of the murder camps and the annihilation of the Jewish community stare at the reader like a piece of news. Littell thereby manages to create a new genre in literary writings; a new genre in journalistic writings too. This genre intertwines history and literature, journalism being the catalyst for the writer tobring up the story in 2006, almost 60 years after the destruction of those death camps. Thenovel in question gets sensationalized both due to the content and the controversy that it has managed to garner at its publication almost 4 years after Front National’s- an extreme right wing party known for its anti-Semitism- first round victory in the French presidentialelections. By the time of the publication of this novel Jonathan Littell has worked with LeMonde, A French daily, as journalist reporting from war ravaged countries. Digging uphistory for literary purposes must already be a professional subversion for him. This journeyfrom being a committed journalist to a committed writer can also be seen through the prism of ceaseless wars that have been targeting innocent lives. Why choose to write a novel and submit oneself to the scrutiny of historians and literati whereas Littell could have very well come up with a historical account of the events, especially because he had worked on the East European archives to come up with it? Does this approach put Littell in the league of Emile Zola- J’accuse- or more recently Jonathan Safran Foer who put their research work at the service of literature, or does it legitimately provide Littell with an agency on discourse; a voice that he could share with the victims of European anti-Semitism, which would otherwise have been held back due to the use of traditional journalistic tools: Print media?Journalism thereby manages to locate a writer between the margins of fact and fiction; fiction that allows the permeation of discourse into an otherwise volatile historical event likeHolocaust that reverberates in the present: the rise of anti-Semitism in Europe and the rightwing political parties gaining mileage from it. In the Kindly Ones, Littell endows his subject,a Nazi officer, with speech; with the ability to transcend popular knowledge about Nazism, often seen through the Hitlerian prism, and to bring it to the pedestal of demystification of the Nazi myth. Littell traces the Nazi system in its structuralist form, the subtext being Nazism was not an overnight obsession of the German extreme right wing; it was a well-planned and well-executed imperial machinery that led to the destruction of the European Jews.Through this presentation, I aim to analyze the Kindly ones by bringing to the fore itshistorical-journalistic approach and to locate the novel in the French literary tradition ofjournalistic writings. The core of the novel being destruction, of both victim and executioner,an interrogation into the narrative strategy adopted for projecting this apocalypticphenomenon will form the second part of our scrutiny. We will then investigate themotivation of the author: what makes him tread into a territory which is both known- writing has been a part of his journalistic career- and unknown- the use of fiction to recreate a discourse?
Aristotle's syllogism as simple as ABC by new transformed Raval's notations
Transformed RAVAL NOTATION solves Syllogism problems very quickly and accurately. This method solves any categorical syllogism problem with same ease and is as simple as ABC… In Transformed RAVAL NOTATION, each premise and conclusion is written in abbreviated form, and then conclusion is reached simply by connecting abbreviated premises.NOTATION: Statements (both premises and conclusions) are represented as follows:
Statement Notation
a) All S are P, SS-P
b) Some S are P, S-P
c) Some S are not P, S / PP
d) No S is P, SS / PP
(- implies are and / implies are not)
All is represented by double letters; Some is represented by single letter. No S is P implies No P is S so its notation contains double letters on both sides.
RULES: (1) Conclusions are reached by connecting Notations. Two notations can be linked only through common linking terms. When the common linking term multiplies (becomes double from single), divides (becomes single from double) or remains double then conclusion is arrived between terminal terms. (Aristotle’s rule: the middle term must be distributed at least once)
(2)If both statements linked are having – signs, resulting conclusion carries – sign (Aristotle’s rule: two affirmatives imply an affirmative)
(3) Whenever statements having – and / signs are linked, resulting conclusion carries / sign. (Aristotle’s rule: if one premise is negative, then the conclusion must be negative)
(4)Statement having / sign cannot be linked with another statement having / sign to derive any conclusion. (Aristotle’s rule: Two negative premises imply no valid conclusion)
Syllogism conclusion by Tranformed Raval’s Notation is in accordance with Aristotle’s rules for the same. It is visually very transparent and conclusions can be deduced at a glance, moreover it solves syllogism problems with any number of statements and it is quickest of all available methods. By new Raval method for solving categorical syllogism, solving categorical syllogism is as simple as pronouncing ABC and it is just continuance of Aristotle work on categorical syllogism. It’s believed that Boole's system could handle multi-term propositions and arguments, whereas Aristotle could handle only two-termed subject-predicate propositions and arguments. For example, it’s claimed that Aristotle's system could not deduce: "No quadrangle that is a square is a rectangle that is a rhombus" from "No square that is a quadrangle is a rhombus that is a rectangle" or from "No rhombus that is a rectangle is a square that is a quadrangle".
Above conclusion is reached at a glance with Raval's Notations (Symbolic Aristotle’s syllogism rules).
Premise:
"No (square that is a quadrangle) is a (rhombus that is a rectangle)"
Raval's Representations:
S – Q, S – Q / Rh – Re, Rh – Re
Premise:
"No (rhombus that is a rectangle) is a (square that is a quadrangle)".
Raval's Representations:
Rh – Re, Rh – Re / S – Q, S - Q
Conclusion:
"No (quadrangle that is a square) is a (rectangle that is a rhombus)"
Raval’s Representations:
Q – S, Q – S / Re – Rh, Re – Rh
As “ Q – S” follows from “S – Q” and “Re – Rh” from “Rh – Re”. Given conclusion follows from the given premises.

The ideal class group of quadratic fields
The ideal class group problem is one of the very interesting problems in algebraic number theory. In this thesis we focused on quadratic fields. We studied the group of units of the rings of algebraic integers and calculated fundamental units in several quadratic fields. We also studied a detailed proof of the analytic Dirichlet class number formula with numerical examples and its relation to binary quadratic forms. In addition, we also presented a detailed proof of Carlitz's theorem with numerical examples
Класифікація електроміографічних сигналів з використанням аналізу ANOVA, базована на вейвлет-перетвореннях
Wavelet analysis of surface electromyogram (sEMG) signals has been investigated. Methods
to remove noise before processing and further analysis are rather significant for these
signals. The sEMG signals were estimated with the following steps, first, the obtained
signal was decomposed using wavelet transform; then, decomposed coefficients were
analyzed by threshold methods, and, finally, reconstruction was performed. Comparison of
the Daubechies wavelet family for effective removing noise from the recorded sEMGs was
executed preciously. As was found, wavelet transform db4 performs denoising best among
the aforesaid wavelet family. Results inferred that Daubechies wavelet families (db4) were
more suitable for the analysis of sEMG signals related to different upper limb motions, and
a classification accuracy of 88.90% was achieved. Then, a statistical technique (one-way
repeated factorial analysis) for the experimental coefficient was done to investigate the class
separability among different motions.
The author is grateful to Dr. Amod
