Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
Full text linkThe present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

It also describes the evolution of these key concepts, in the course of the long history of this sociological current, with particular reference to their application in media studies. No full textR è diventato, negli ultimi dieci anni, uno dei software più utilizzati per l’analisi statistica dei dati: una competenza importante nel mercato del lavoro, oltre che una preziosa risorsa per la ricerca. Per facilitare il principiante ad avvicinarsi ad un linguaggio che risulta “ostico”, specialmente all’inizio, il testo propone l’uso dell’interfaccia a menu di RCommander per realizzare un’analisi di esempio− dall’importazione dei dati allo studio delle relazioni bivariate, ai grafici− senza dover prima imparare a scrivere una riga di codice. Parallelamente, verranno illustrate le funzioni e il linguaggio di R. Il lettore imparerà quindi a: svolgere operazioni su dataframe, variabili (vettori) e tabelle; usare le funzioni; impostare, usare e leggere i modelli (formule e gestione delle liste di risultati); organizzare il lavoro di analisi con gli script (il codice); esportare grafici e tabelle. Inoltre, inizierà ad utilizzare RStudio, l’ambiente grafico di R, e R Markdown per la creazione di report riproducibili. R verrà usato anche per descrivere la logica dell’analisi esplorativa dei dati, base del data mining, campo in cui R trova frequentemente applicazione. Accompagnano il volume dati, script e funzioni da scaricare (anche come pacchetto di R) e una wiki, creata nel 2012 e da cui nasce il libro, con informazioni aggiuntive su molte delle funzioni presentate nel testo, e aggiornata con regolarità
