“Caracterização experimental das taxas de renovação horária em residências para pessoas idosas”, 5ª Conferência sobre Patologia e Reabilitação de Edifícios – PATORREB 2015Os utentes das estruturas residências para pessoas idosas (ERPI) permanecem grande parte do tempo em ambientes interiores. Portanto, a exposição a uma fraca qualidade do ar interior (QAI) poderá afetar a saúde e qualidade de vida dos mesmos. A ventilação, é uma técnica reconhecida que visa melhorar a QAI e da qual se espera um impacto significativo na saúde dos ocupantes. Assim, este estudo, inserido no âmbito do projeto GERIA, pretende avaliar as condições de ventilação dos lares de
idosos.
Como parte do projeto GERIA, 33 instituições na cidade de Lisboa, foram escolhidas aleatoriamente e convidadas a participar. Em cada um dos lares efetuou-se o levantamento das características construtivas, assim como medições de CO2 no interior dos quartos, durante a noite. Uma vez que no interior dos quartos não há afetação do ar interior por parte da combustão de combustíveis fosseis as emissões de CO2 consideradas devem-se exclusivamente à ocupação humana.
O objetivo deste trabalho foi avaliar as condições de ventilação em lares de idosos. Ao aplicar o método do gás traçador, mais concretamente as técnicas de emissão constante, decaimento e regime estacionário foi possível determinar as taxas de ventilação nos quartos de dormir. Estas medições ocorreram entre Novembro de 2013 e Julho de 2014.
Concluiu-se que 70% dos quartos possuem concentrações de CO2 estacionário acima de 1250 ppm. What is an Adaptive Façade? Analysis of Recent Terms and Definitions from an International Perspective
Adaptive façades can improve the building’s energy efficiency and economics, through their capability to change their behaviour in real time according to indoor-outdoor parameters, by means of materials, components, and systems. Therefore, adaptive façades can make a significant and viable contribution to meeting the EU ́s 2020 targets. Several different types of adaptive façade concepts have already been developed, and an increase in emerging, innovative solutions is expected in the near future. According to recent research, the word ‘adaptive’ in the context of building façades is often associated in the literature with a long list of similar words. Moreover, there is no consistent definition of façade adaptability, although studies exist in relation to characterisation issues, design parameter, and classification. Even within the discipline of architecture and engineering, words such as ‘smart’, ‘intelligent’, ‘interactive’, ‘adaptive’, or ‘responsive’ have been used loosely and interchangeably, creating confusion as to their specific meaning and their conceptual relationship to building performance and design. In response to this, the goal of this paper is to build a provisional lexicon, or descriptive, behavioural, and methodological words, to assist researchers and designers in navigating the field of high-performance façades that incorporate materially innovative and feedback-based systems. It offers a brief overview of current advances in this nascent and rapidly evolving field and articulates a broader conceptual territory for the word ‘adaptive’, used in many cases to describe the technological systems that interact with the environment and the user by reacting to external influences and adapting their behaviour and functionality. The objective of this paper is to contribute to these developments by presenting the findings. Furthermore, common definitions will be proposed, based on the characterisation design parameters, classification approaches, and real case studies

The object of the report was to elucidate in detail the various features of the research program in meteorology being carried on at the Daniel Guggenheim Airship Institute in Akron, Ohio. Mr. L. J. Fangman, of the U.S. Weather Bureau, was collaborating with the author in carrying out work such as a study of autographic records of the various meteorological elements during frontal passages with a view to the possible prediction of the intensity of the accompanying disturbance as it may affect the operation of aircraft and a study of atmospheric gustiness with a view to finding the dependence between frequency end amplitude of velocity fluctuations and the vertical temperature and velocity gradients

This report is on the investigations of frontal phenomena at the Daniel Guggenheim Airship Institute in Akron, Ohio from January 1, 1935 through August 1, 1936. The investigation was carried out with the cooperation of the U.S. Bureau of Aeronautics, the U.S. Weather Bureau, the California Institute of Technology, and the Guggenheim Airship Institute. Mr. R.C. Robinson of the Weather Bureau cooperated with the author in carrying out the investigation. The object of the investigation was to determine the intensity of the atmospheric disturbances (i.e. rapidity of wind shift and gustiness) accompanying the passage of cold fronts, along with a study of the characteristics of the air masses involved and other features which might affect the intensity of the disturbance. The report treated thirty cold fronts which passed the station during 1935 to 1936

Daniel Emmett postcard
Postcard of Daniel Emmett and his home in Mount Vernon, Ohio. Emmett is considered to be the author of the antebellum song "Dixie," written in 1859, which became the unofficial song of the Confederate soldiers during the American Civil War. He was born in Mount Vernon in 1815 and taught himself the fiddle, and later became associated with minstrel shows and helped to define that genre. Minstrel shows traveled around the United States, presenting skits and musical performances. Emmett also composed many other songs, including "Old Dan Tucker," "Turkey in the Straw," and "The Blue Tail Fly." He died in 1904
