    Comparison of microscopic meat quality parameters in guinea pig [

    The amount of animal protein consumed determines the health status of individuals. Unfortunately, the rising demand for meat has resulted in a land shortage and exorbitant pricing. In Andean countries, guinea pigs (GP) have been raised for centuries as an inexpensive animal protein source like broiler chicken (BC) and local catfish (LC) in Indonesia. This study aimed to compare the meat quality of GP, BC, and LC based on their color and histomorphometry analysis. Samples were taken from the hind leg (GP), thigh (BC), and tail of frozen meats. After being observed visually to compare their color, samples were processed for histological preparation following routine procedure, fixed in NBF 10%, and stained with Hematoxylin-Eosin and Mallory Acid Fuchsin. Muscle cell size and collagen fibers were calculated. Results demonstrated that GP meat appeared red although all three meats are categorized as white meat. GP meat has the largest muscle cell size (87.7±10.9µm), indicated high content of protein. GP meat also has the most collagen fibers, affecting palatability. It can be concluded that GP meat is prospective to be developed as an alternative protein source. Another benefit is that the price of GP is affordable and requires less space to breed

    Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

    The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed.     Guinea pig (GP) meat [Cavia porcellus (Linnaeus, 1758)] can serve as an alternative food due to its high protein content. GP is the staple food in Peru, thus tropical regions (Indonesia) can cultivate it. GP can be purchased at animal markets for an acceptable cost. Carcass weight and proximate analysis are required to evaluate GP meat characteristics. To examine the impact of frozen storage on meat quality, this study aimed to compare GP meat quality with chicken and catfish. The frozen meat was from commercial markets. The methodology comprised meat selection, carcass weight, proximate evaluation, and data analysis. The hind leg, thigh, and tail sections of GP, chicken, and catfish, respectively, were used for proximate evaluation and evaluated using the Titrimetric method, the Weibull method, the Oven Drying method, ash calculation, the By Difference method, and meat tenderness test. Regarding carcass weight, GP has the lowest weight. However, it has the finest proximate analysis results, compared to catfish and chicken, with a protein value of 17.42%. GP meat has potential to be gained as a high-protein food source at a reasonable cost. As opposed to chicken and catfish, more portions of GP can be consumed as meat

    Review: Potensi Antimikroba pada Tanaman Mangrove di Indonesia terhadap Staphylococcus sp. dan Shigella sp.

    Abstract—Indonesia still has a high prevalence of diarrhea cases, which is 14.5% in 2020. Diarrhea can cause malnutrition, dehydration, kidney damage, and a weak immune system, so an effective solution is needed to reduce the number of diarrhea cases. Mangroves are known to contain various secondary metabolites that play a role in the health sector, such as antimicrobials, antivirals, and antifungals. This review article aims to review whether the antibacterial activity of mangroves can suppress the growth of bacteria that cause diarrhea, namely Staphylococcus sp. and Shigella sp. Based on a review of six selected research articles, it is known that various mangrove species have antibacterial activity against Staphylococcus sp. and Shigella sp. The strength of these activities against the two bacteria is determined by several factors, including the extraction method used and the chosen solvent. With these results, it is hoped that mangroves can become an affordable alternative medicine for various groups of people to cure diarrhea, thus the number of diarrhea cases in Indonesia can decrease.  Keywords: diarrhea, mangrove, secondary metabolite, shigella sp., and staphylococcus sp.   Abstrak—Indonesia masih ber-prevalensi tinggi untuk kasus diare, yaitu sebesar 14,5% pada tahun 2020. Diare dapat menyebabkan malnutrisi, dehidrasi, kerusakan ginjal, serta sistem imun tubuh yang lemah, sehingga diperlukan adanya solusi yang efektif untuk mengurangi angka kasus diare tersebut. Mangrove telah diketahui memiliki berbagai kandungan metabolit sekunder yang berperan dalam bidang kesehatan, seperti antimikroba, antivirus, dan antifungal. Review artikel ini bertujuan untuk mengulas apakah aktivitas antibakteri yang dimiliki oleh mangrove dapat menekan pertumbuhan bakteri penyebab diare, yaitu Staphylococcus sp. dan Shigella sp. Berdasarkan review terhadap enam artikel penelitian pilihan, diketahui bahwa terdapat berbagai spesies mangrove yang memiliki aktivitas antibakteri terhadap Staphylococcus sp. dan Shigella sp. Kekuatan dari aktivitas tersebut terhadap kedua bakteri ditentukan oleh beberapa faktor, di antaranya metode ekstraksi yang dilakukan serta pelarut yang dipilih. Dengan adanya hasil tersebut, diharapkan mangrove dapat menjadi obat alternatif yang terjangkau oleh berbagai kalangan masyarakat  untuk menyembuhkan diare, sehingga angka kasus diare di Indonesia dapat menurun.     “Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

    Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

    We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature.     Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

    We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods

    We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
