The Power of Hybridization

Programming languages always seem to do some things well but not others: Python punts when it comes to user interfaces, Java’s artificial complexity prevents rapid development and produces tangles, and it will be awhile before we see benefits from C++ concurrency work. The cognitive load of languages and their blind spots increases the cost of experimentation, impeding your ability to fail fast and iterate. If you use a single language to solve your problem, you are binding yourself to the worldview limitations and the mistakes made by the creator of that language.
Consider increasing your wiggle room by crossing language boundaries, complementing a language that is powerful in one area with a different language powerful in another. Language hybridization can speed development to quickly discover your real problems, giving you more time to fix them.
After making a case for hybridizing your thinking in general, I will present a number of simple examples; first showing the benefits of using other languages with multiprocessing in Python and Actors in Scala, then hybridization creating a Go language JSON-RPC server and a Python client, and finally a Python web server with a web client using CoffeeScript, jQuery and Ajax. All examples are kept small so that the syntax of each new language can be explained.

Bruce Eckel is the author of Thinking in Java (Prentice-Hall, 1998, 2nd Edition, 2000, 3rd Edition, 2003, 4th Edition, 2006), the Hands-On Java Seminar CD ROM (available on the Web site), Thinking in C++ (PH 1995; 2nd edition 2000, Volume 2 with Chuck Allison, 2003), C++ Inside & Out (Osborne/McGraw-Hill 1993), and First Steps in Flex (with James Ward, 2008) among others. He's given hundreds of presentations throughout the world, published over 150 articles in numerous magazines, was a founding member of the ANSI/ISO C++ committee and speaks regularly at conferences. He provides public and private training and consulting in programming languages and software system design.</p

No full textTujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menganalisis pelayanan administrasi terpadu kecamatan di Kecamatan Karang Tengah Kota Tangerang dengan menggunakan metode servqual dan importance performance analysis. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode kuantitatif deskriptif dengan menggunakan populasi dari masyarakat penerima pelayanan dan sampel masyarakat dari penerima pelayanan administrasi terpadu kecamatan sebanyak 98 orang responden penelitian. Hasil penelitian dan pembahasan dapat diperoleh suatu informasi bahwa pelayanan administrasi terpadu kecamatan di Kecamatan Karang Tengah Kota Tangerang belum memenuhi harapan masyarakat. pelayanan administrasi terpadu kecamatan di Kecamatan Karang Tengah Kota Tangerang untuk semua dimensi pelayanan tangible, Reliability, Responsiveness, Assurance, Empathy memiliki nilai rata-rata kesenjangan yang negatif yaitu dimensi tangible sebesar -0,260, reliability sebesar 0,277, resposiveness sebesar -0,215, Assurance sebesar -0,237 dan Empathy sebesar -0,224. Artinya bahwa seluruh dimensi ServQual belum memenuhi harapan masyarakat dalam menerima pelayanan administrasi terpadu kecamatan di Kecamatan Karang Tengah Kota Tangerang. Atribut yang menjadi prioritas untuk meningkatkan pelayanan administrasi terpadu kecamatan di Kecamatan Karang Tengah Kota Tangerang yaitu pada Kuadran I yang meliputi atribut Sistem informasi pelayanan yang mudah diakses, Kemampuan petugas memberikan pelayanan dengan baik dan sopan, Kemampuan petugas memberikan pelayanan dalam menjawab keluhan, Petugas pelayanan yang mampu bertanggung jawab dalam memberikan pelayanan, dan Kesungguhan petugas pelayanan dalam melayani.

No full textPerataan laba digunakan oleh manajemen perusahaan manufaktur untuk membuat pendapatan perusahaan stabil dan tidak berfluktuasi selama beberapa periode. Tujuan dari penelitian ini adalah untuk menguji pengaruh SIZE, ROA, DER dan NPM terhadap praktik perataan laba perusahaan manufaktur yang terdaftar di Bursa Efek Indonesia. Penelitian ini menggunakan eckel index untuk mengklasifikasikan perusahaan yang melakukan atau tidak melakukan perataan laba.
Sampel yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini adalah 54 perusahaan manufaktur yang terdaftar di Bursa Efek Indonesia dalam periode empat tahun mulai tahun 2015 hingga 2017 dengan metode pemilihan purposive sampling. Analisis statistik yang digunakan dalam penelitian ini menggunakan statistik deskriptif, dan model regresi logistik. Hasil eckel index menunjukkan praktik perataan laba oleh perusahaan manufaktur yang terdaftar di Bursa Efek Indonesia. Berdasarkan hasil regresi logistik untuk keempat variabel independen, tidakada yang berpengaruh terhadap praktik perataan laba

Investigating income smoothing: Empirical evidence from Vietnam's listed companies
No full textIncome smoothing is a dimension of the accounts manipulation theme that has been attracting great attention in the accounting literature. A goal of manipulation is widely ascribed to managers who wants income smoothing. The author has tried to investigate income smoothing at listed companies on the Stock Exchange. For this purpose, we chose a stratified random sample of 285 companies from formula listed companies on Vietnam Stock Exchange. We carried the mechanism for smooth and non-smoothing companies Eckel model (coefficient of variation of the distribution of profits to sales). We have compared 111 smoothing companies and 174 non-smoothing companies. The study results suggest that the Eckel index is suitable for the Vietnam stock market and shows a slight increase compared to the previous research
