ASSESSMENT OF HEAVY METALS AND MICROBIAL LOADS WITHIN THE COAL MINES OF ANAMBRA BASIN, NORTH CENTRAL, NIGERIA
The study aims to investigate the effect of coal mining on the drinking water quality of different water sources in Ankpa, Kogi State, Nigeria. A total of twenty (20) water samples were collected for physico-chemical (pH, Temperature, Electrical Conductivity, Total Dissolved Solids, turbidity, hardness), microbial (TPC, TC and E. coli) and heavy metal (Fe, Pb, Cr, Cu, As, Cd, Hg, Mn and Zn) analysis was determined using standard methods. The observed values of EC, TDS, chloride and sulphate were within WHO/NESREA standards. Heavy metals concentrations were generally low across the water sources. Similarly, the concentrations of Fe (0.01 – 0.18±0.048 mg/L), Pb (0.0006 – 0.008±0.002 mg/L), Cu (0.004 – 0.04±0.014 mg/L), Mn (0.003 – 0.032±0.0008 mg/L) and Zn (0.005 – 0.192±0.057 mg/L) were all within the permissible standards. The total coliform count of the water samples ranged from 1.40×102 to 2.00×102. The presence of E.coli in S-2, S-6, S-9, S-10, S-15 and S-19 is an indicator organism of feacal pollution. The heavy metal pollution index (HPI) was far less than (<100) the critical value of 100. The Hazard Index (HI) of the metals in water samples showed a low risk (HI<1) across the different age groups. While the cumulative Cancer Risk also shows extremely low risk for the analyzed metals and indicates no adverse effects on human health within the study area
Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation
counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed
Variations on the Author
“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more

ASSESSMENT OF HEAVY METAL CONCENTRATION IN SEDIMENT AND FISH (Oreochromis Niloticus AND Clarias Gariepinus) IN BONNY ESTUARY, NIGER DELTA, NIGERIA, AND THEIR HUMAN HEALTH IMPLICATIONS
This study was carried out to examine the concentration of heavy metals in fishes, sediments, and their associated human health implications from Bonny Estuary, Rivers, Nigeria. A total of twenty-four (24) fish specimens and four (4) sediment specimens were gathered and tested using standardized procedures for essential and non-essential trace metals. Simple descriptive and inferential statistics were used to analyze the data. In fish specimens, health risk indices for both carcinogenic as well as non-carcinogenic impacts of heavy metals were evaluated. The result of metal concentrations in Oreochromis niloticus and Clarias Gariepinus revealed Pb (10.88±3.24 to 37.12±0.42 mg/kg) and Cd (0.94±0.66 to 1.16±0.10 mg/kg) were greater than Food and Agriculture Organization allowable limits. The bioaccumulation variable revealed Pb as the greatest metal accumulator in both O.niloticus and C.gariepinus from sediment specimens. Pb had a hazard quotient (HQ) greater than 1.0, indicative of non-carcinogenic side effects. Cancer Danger (CR) values of Lead (Pb) in Oreochromis niloticus varied from 1.1 × 10−2 to 2.7 × 10−2, while those in Clarias gariepinus ranged from 1.5 × 10−2 to 3.3 × 10−2, showing that both breeds are carcinogenic. The CR values of Cd were as well discovered to surpass the standard parameters of 1.0 × 10−4. The results of this study reveal worrisome levels of Pb and Cd, which need an immediate awareness and quick response to mitigate their associated health risk

We have done our best to complete the author checklist relating to the use of animals in the hut study. Note that the objective for the hut study was to evaluate the IRS treatment applications for residual efficacy against Anopheles mosquitoes, including the local An. coluzzii mosquito population. Cows were only used to attract mosquitoes into the huts and no tests were carried out directly on the cows. The author checklist is intended for use with studies where experiments are carried out on animals, which is why we have had such difficulty in completing this for the hut study, as many of the questions do not relate to how the cows were used
