Impulsive buying behavior during Ramadan : a perspective of the Muslim community in Finland
The thesis examined impulsive buying behavior during the holy month of Ramadan. It focused on the online shopping sector and its relationship with online shopping behavior in the context of electron-ics, which is one of the most common items bought during Ramadan. This study investigated several factors affecting these impulsive purchases, including promotional strategies, social influences, web user experience, emotional factors, and the social and religious context of the cultural event of Ram-adan.
This research investigated the most critical elements underlying participants’ decisions regarding their impulsive purchasing behavior. It attempted to find and discover promotional, social, and web design factors influencing purchase decisions. Research data were gathered using surveys, and the analysis was carried out using Webropol to provide helpful information. In addition, the period of marketers across the world targeting consumers is said to bring ethical issues, which were investi-gated.
To manage a theoretical analysis, several sources were investigated by me, such as scientific arti-cles, monographs, and websites concerning impulsive buying behavior during Ramadan. Data were collected through sample surveys and analyzed using graphs and charts for illustrative purposes. The data was carefully examined to determine the problem areas. The survey offered an opportuni-ty to learn more about the habits of consumers regarding online purchases during Ramadan. The thesis focused on the basic web features of the sellers, which the customers complained required changes and improvements to meet their needs and expectations
The effect of Ramadan fasting on the health of a predominant Muslim population in the UK
Background: Ramadan fasting, in which Muslims abstain from food and drinks from dawn to sun-set, is one of the five Pillars of Islam. Millions of Muslims observe this month every year. Howev-er, little is known on the effect of Ramadan fasting on health. There is a lack of research investi-gating the effect of Ramadan on health. Ramadan fasting is associated with sudden changes in lifestyle including changes in mealtime and sleeping pattern. These changes lead to circadian misalignment that could lead to cardiometabolic dysfunction and cardiovascular disease. Moreo-ver, dehydration resulting from the prolonged fasting is claimed to increase the risk of infection in Ramadan. The aims of this thesis are (1) to assess the impact of Ramadan fasting on different aspects of health (2) to strengthen the available evidence on the effect of Ramadan fasting on health using a robust method that have not previously been employed in Ramadan research.
Methods: The overall methods (1) using The Health Improvement Network (THIN) database for a retrospective cohort design to explore the cardiometabolic profile of a predominate Muslim popu-lation in the UK, (2) systematic review to summarise the available evidence on the effect of Ram-adan fasting on cardiovascular disease (CVD) and risk factors for CVD in patients with diabetes (3) controlled interrupted time series using THIN database and hospital data to explore (a) infection (all infections), using antibiotics prescriptions as a proxy measure and (b) ischemic heart disease (IHD) risks in a predominant South Asian Muslim population in the UK to a predominantly non-Muslim white ethnic population as a control group.
Results: The retrospective cohort study showed that compared to white population, South Asian (SA) are at higher risk of diabetes, hypertension and IHD with some variations between SA sub-groups. Systematic review showed that there is insufficient evidence suggesting that Ramadan fasting is associated with increased risk of CVD events in patients with diabetes. The interrupted time series studies show that there is no evidence that Ramadan fasting is associated with in-creased risk of infection or IHD.
Conclusion: Up to date there is no evidence that Ramadan fasting is associated with detrimental effect on health. However, more well conducted studies are needed to validate the findings
Sport participation and Ramadan observance: Advice for the athlete
Introduction: A growing number of Muslim athletes now engage in international competition. This raises the question of the advice they should be given if a major event occurs during the month of Ramadan. Methods: A narrative review has been based upon books and extensive reviews completed by the author and other investigators. Results: Practical considerations hamper assessment of the effects of Ramadan upon physical performance, but there seem small decreases in muscular strength and both anaerobic and aerobic capacity. Nevertheless, athletes who wish to observe Ramadan can reduce such effects by prior adjustment of diet and training plans, minimizing sleep loss, and careful management of fluid and food intake during the period of intermittent fasting. Conclusion: Competitors in most events can observe Ramadan with a small loss of athletic performance. However, intermittent fasting can endanger health for individuals with type I diabetes mellitus, and for participants in ultra-endurance events (particularly under hot conditions)

Framing diabetes public health information during Ramadan – a newspaper content analysis
Objective: To evaluate health-related messages in printed media pertaining to diabetes care in Qatar during Ramadan. Methods: Qatar national newspapers (Arabic and/or English) published 6 weeks prior to and 4 weeks during Ramadan 2012 were reviewed. Health-related content was identified and characterized according to four different categories including presence of messages pertaining to both diabetes and Ramadan. Articles describing diabetes and Ramadan combined were further evaluated according to specific features of prominence (surrogates for perceived reader importance). Newspapers were grouped by language, and volume and content of coverage were compared between groups. Results: A total of 1 467 newspaper issues published during the 2012 review period (781 in Arabic and 686 in English) were analysed. Health-related articles appeared consistently throughout the study period, but few were specifically diabetes-related (66/1095 [6%] Arabic articles versus 34/1250 [2.7%] English articles; P = 0.008). Only 34/1095 (3.1%) Arabic and 23/1 250 (1.8%) English (P = 0.05) articles pertaining specifically to diabetes management during Ramadan were published. Twenty/34 (59%, Arabic) and 6/23 (26%, English) were published in high prominence positions. Conclusions: Opportunity exists to augment the relatively low coverage of diabetes health-related messages in print media during Ramadan. - 2017, - The Author(s) 2017.Scopu

Millions of Muslims live all over the world who fast
during Ramadan every year. Various studies have been
conducted on the impact of Ramadan fasting on different
body organs reporting its positive results on health, such
as a decrease in serum cholesterol and triglyceride and fa-
vorable impacts on the immune system (1).
Severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) coron-
avirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2) that caused coronavirus disease 2019
(COVID-19) outbreak has been a global concern from late
2019 due to its fast transmission and high pathologic
effects (2).
Owing to the beginning of Ramadan during the COVID-
19 pandemic, Muslims may worry whether the fasting in-
creases the risk of coronavirus infection.
People can be categorized into two groups based on
their health status (Figure 1). The first group consists of
people suffering from a disease such as malnutrition and
kidney disease. This group should not fast, according to
the Islamic rules, since fasting can negatively affect their
health condition. The second group is healthy people who
can be divided into two subcategories, including healthy
people who follow self-isolation and those who cannot
obey self-isolation rules and are forced to leave home for
work or other requisite activities
Effects of Ramadan and non-Ramadan intermittent fasting on body composition: a systematic review and meta-analysis

No use, distribution or reproduction is permitted which does not comply with these terms.Intermittent fasting (IF) has gained popularity for body-composition improvement purposes. The aim of this systematic review and meta-analysis was to summarize the effects of Ramadan vs. non-Ramadan IF on parameters of body composition. We conducted a comprehensive search of peer-reviewed articles in three electronic databases: PubMed, Scopus, and Web of Science (published until May 2020). Studies were selected if they included samples of adults (≥18 years), had an experimental or observational design, investigated any type of IF and included body composition outcomes. Meta-analytical procedures were conducted when feasible. Sixty-six articles met the eligibility criteria. We found that non-Ramadan IF is effective for decreasing body weight (-0.341 (95% CI [-0.584, -0.098], p = 0.006), body mass index (-0.699, 95% CI [-1.05, -0.347], p 0.05). Conversely, we observed a significant increase in fat-free mass when comparing pre- to post-intervention in a within design fashion (0.306, 95% CI [0.133, 0.48], p = 0.001). Finally, despite being accompanied by dehydration, Ramadan IF is effective in decreasing body weight (-0.353; 95% CI [-0.651, -0.054], p = 0.02) and relative fat mass (-0.533; 95% CI [-1.025, -0.04], p = 0.034). Frequency-tunable and pattern diversity antennas for cognitive radio applications
Frequency-tunable microstrip antennas, for cognitive radio applications, are proposed herein. The approach is based on tuning the operating frequency of a bandpass filter that is incorporated into a wideband antenna. The integration of an open loop resonator- (OLR-) based adjustable bandpass filter into a wideband antenna to transform it into a tunable filter-antenna is presented. The same technique is employed to design a cognitive radio pattern diversity tunable filter-antenna. A good agreement between the simulated and measured results for the fabricated prototypes is obtained. The radiation characteristics of each designed tunable filter-antenna are included herein. © 2014 A. H. Medical Treatment and Ramadan Fasting amongst Malaysian Muslim Medical Staff
The level of knowledge about Ramadan fasting and medical treatment amongst Medical staff has not been documented. This study assessed the level of knowledge amongst Malaysian Muslim Medical staff regarding this issue. Methodology: Questionnaires were distributed to 24 Muslim Medical Staff volunteers. The level of knowledge was evaluated based on the percentage of correct answers given by the respondents. Results: Most of the respondents understood that the use of inhaler, drip infusion, injection, ear, eye and nose drops and the use of sublingual tablets for medical purposes do not break the fast. Conclusion: The majority of respondents are knowledgeable on the issue of Ramadan fasting and Medical treatment.

The impact of Ramadan fasting on hematopoiesis, hematological inflammatory parameters, and metabolic processes among athletes
Introduction: Muslim athletes fast from dawn to sunset during the month of Ramadan, prompt-ing research into how this fasting affects their physiology and performance. Objective: This study aimed to evaluate the impact of Ramadan fasting on anthropometric pa-rameters, hematological and inflammatory markers, and metabolic processes in a cohort of ath-letes, given the inconsistent findings from previous studies and limited focus on immune sys-tem effects. Methodology: This research was conducted on 15 fasted Jordanian national players who main-tained their regular training sessions. Anthropometry, blood elements, inflammatory parame-ters, lipid profiles, and kidney functions were measured the day before and the day after Ram-adan fasting. Results: Analyses showed that weight, body fat mass, neutrophils, hematological inflammatory parameters, cholesterol, triglyceride, and low-density lipoprotein were significantly lower after Ramadan fasting; body mass index, body fat percentage, lean body mass, and blood volume dis-played a trend of reduction, while lymphocytes were significantly higher. There were no changes in erythrocyte indices and kidney function tests. Conclusion: These findings indicate that Ramadan fasting leads to weight loss, improved cardi-ovascular health, and modification in immune response dynamics in athletes. Further studies are required to elucidate the mechanisms underlying these effects.Introducción: Los atletas musulmanes ayunan desde el amanecer hasta el atardecer durante el mes de Ramadán, lo que impulsó la investigación sobre cómo este ayuno afecta su fisiología y rendimiento. Objetivo: Este estudio tuvo como objetivo evaluar el impacto del ayuno de Ramadán en los parámetros antropométricos, los marcadores hematológicos e inflamatorios y los procesos metabólicos en una cohorte de atletas, dados los hallazgos inconsistentes de estudios previos y el enfoque limitado en los efectos del sistema inmunológico. Metodología: Esta investigación se realizó en 15 jugadores nacionales jordanos en ayunas que mantuvieron sus sesiones de entrenamiento regulares. La antropometría, los elementos sanguíneos, los parámetros inflamatorios, los perfiles lipídicos y las funciones renales se midieron el día antes y el día después del ayuno de Ramadán. Resultados: Los análisis mostraron que el peso, la masa grasa corporal, los neutrófilos, los parámetros inflamatorios hematológicos, el colesterol, los triglicéridos y las lipoproteínas de baja densidad fueron significativamente más bajos después del ayuno de Ramadán; el índice de masa corporal, el porcentaje de grasa corporal, la masa corporal magra y el volumen sanguíneo mostraron una tendencia a la reducción, mientras que los linfocitos fueron significativamente más altos. No hubo cambios en los índices de eritrocitos y las pruebas de función renal. Conclusión: Estos hallazgos indican que el ayuno del Ramadán conduce a la pérdida de peso, mejora la salud cardiovascular y modifica la dinámica de la respuesta inmunitaria en los deportistas. Se requieren más estudios para dilucidar los mecanismos subyacentes a estos efectos
