No full textLa “Revista 16 de abril” es la primera revista estudiantil latinoamericana de ciencias de la salud. Se realizó el cierre editorial del año 2013. Durante este año, se publicaron 55 artículos, donde el 40 % eran artículos originales. Los estudiantes de medicina fueron los más productivos con 82 (87,2%) autores, seguido de los estudiantes de estomatología con 7 (7,5%) autores. El índice de Price mostró buenos resultados, lo que denota una actualización de las referencias bibliográficas en los artículos publicados durante el año 2013. De forma general, la perspectiva de la revista es buena.

No full textIntroduction: the student scientific movement in Cuba has undergone a process of transformations where Medical Sciences play an important role.Objective: To describe the role played by the April 16 magazine in the development of the university student scientific movement of Medical Sciences in Cuba.Material and method: A review study was carried out from March to July 2018. Articles available in Google Academic, Scielo, LILACS and the Virtual Health Library (VHL) of Cuba were consulted. Articles or monographs published in Spanish were taken into account. In the case of databases, the descriptors used in the search engines were (“scientific and technical publications” OR “April 16 magazine” OR “serial publication”) AND (“students”). In total, 11 publications were worked on.Development: Being the oldest in Latin America, April 16 was founded in 1961 by medical students in order to defend the ideology of the Cuban Revolution. Later it changed its character to a publication for scientific purposes, disseminating medical research carried out by Cuban university students. His activity also included organizing the National Forum of Medical Sciences for more than 20 years.Conclusions: The April 16 magazine has contributed inanimportant and uninterrupted way to the development of the student scientific movement in Medical Sciences in Cuba, being a reference of scientific publication in Latin America. Introducción: El movimiento científico estudiantil en Cuba ha experimentado un proceso de transformaciones donde las Ciencias Médicas cumplen un papel importante. Objetivo: Describir el papel desempeñado por la revista 16 de Abril en el desarrollo del movimiento científico estudiantil universitario de las Ciencias Médicas en Cuba.Materiales y métodos: Se realizó un estudio de revisión, de marzo a julio de 2018. Se consultaron artículos disponibles en Google Académico, Scielo, LILACS y la Biblioteca Virtual de Salud (BVS) de Cuba. Se tomaron en cuenta artículos o monografías publicadas en español,. En el caso de las base de datos, los descriptores usados en los motores de búsqueda fueron (“publicaciones científicas y técnicas” OR “revista 16 de abril” OR “publicación seriada”) AND (“estudiantes”). En total se trabajó con 11 publicaciones. Desarrollo: Siendo la más antigua de América Latina, 16 de Abril fue fundada en 1961 por estudiantes de Medicina con la finalidad de defender la ideología de la Revolución Cubana. Posteriormente cambió su carácter a una publicación con fines científicos, divulgando las investigaciones médicas realizadas por estudiantes universitarios cubanos. Su actividad abarcó además la de organizar el Fórum Nacional de Ciencias Médicas por más de 20 años. Conclusiones: La revista 16 de Abril ha contribuido de manera importante e ininterrumpida al desarrollo del movimiento científico estudiantil en las Ciencias Médicas en Cuba, siendo un referente de publicación científica en Latinoamérica. No full textEn mi experiencia como editor de la Revista por más de tres años he notado que la calidad de las propuestas de publicación que recibimos no ha aumentado. Ello supone un reto para el comité editorial y nos lleva a plantearnos la siguiente interrogante: ¿cómo atraer más y mejores propuestas de publicación a la Revista 16 de Abril? El primer aspecto que debe analizarse es el hecho de que los estudiantes cubanos carecen de una cultura de publicación al desconocer que existen revistas como la nuestra cuya misión es publicar los resultados de sus investigaciones

No full textWe conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued
use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation
counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more
sophisticated methods
