Inter-firm linkages, business strategies and firm performance: an empirical study of small industrial clusters in Central Java, Indonesia
No full textInter-firm linkages and business strategies serve as an important instrument for the way of small industrial cluster development in developing countries. The present study utilizes the case of selected manufacturing micro and small enterprises (MSEs) that operate in various small industrial clusters in Central Java, Indonesia. The focus of this study is to examine the relationships between inter-firm linkages and business strategies applied simultaneously by MSEs and their impacts on firm performance. From the perspective of co-opetition strategy, the results of this study revealed that some types of inter-firm linkages and business strategies matter for firm performance. However, inter-firm linkages seem to be less effective compared to business strategies in affecting firm performance in this study

No full textThe ASEAN-China Free Trade Area (ACFTA) provides certain challenges, implications and opportunities to their member-countries. Faced with globalization of ACFTA, the issues articulate a number of propositions for SMEs in the region. The purpose of this paper is to address issues related to the readiness of Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs) in facing the globalization by taking a special case of the ASEAN-China Free Trade Area (ACFTA). The methodology evaluates the macroeconomic overview of ASEAN-China economies, it elucidates economic cooperation and free trade area (FTA) between ASEAN and China by building ASEAN-China Free Trade Area (ACFTA). The findings have an important role in supporting national economic development and SMEs that can be observed in a number of aspects. The implementation of ACFTA will restructure regional industries and provide new challenges and opportunities to countries grouped in ASEAN whereby the SMEs, the dominant form of enterprises in ASEAN members, are generally not well positioned to respond to these challenges. Effective cooperation among SMEs through clustering strategy, can lead to achieve collective efficiency for gaining access to global markets beyond the reach of individual SMEs

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings
are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that
only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into
account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Get PDF“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship
Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis
Get PDFWe provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. This is especially so for Muslim countries, most of which fall under low income countries. Nonetheless, the work on small and medium enterprises (SMEs) in Muslim countries is hardly made available. In realising it, this book provides an overall account of small and medium enterprises in some selected Muslim countries, namely Turkey, Nigeria, Malaysia, Indonesia, Iran, Pakistan, Jordan, Tunisia and Bangladesh. All the selected countries have made the development of SMEs a priority since they contribute immensely to their economic development. Thus, this book provides a review of the experiences, issues and challenges, incentives and policies adopted, prospects for growth and development of SMEs in these countries. Overall, the book is divided into two main parts. The first part presents the overall roles and contributions of SMEs, problems, developments and challenges of SMEs in the selected Muslim countries. This part features chapters on Turkey, Nigeria, Malaysia, Indonesia, Iran, Pakistan, and Bangladesh.
