From goals to gains : a review of our 2022 performance indicator achievements / Muhammad Aiman Abdul Halim
Get PDFAs of February 2023, all performance indicators for faculties and departments in UiTMCPP were finalized. The final report indicates that APB achieved a total performance indicator (PI) score of 70.1%, marking a significant milestone for us at Akademi Pengajian Bahasa (APB) UiTMCPP. Our journey has been challenging, but it has also been a valuable learning experience. Looking back at the year 2022, what lessons have we learned? Throughout 2022, our department was tasked with achieving a total of 19 PIs. As in previous years, APB staff were divided into four groups to brainstorm activities and strategies aimed at fulfilling these PIs. Thanks to the hard work of the group members, these discussions were a great success, resulting in a total of 54 planned activities for our department's strategic action plan. Of course, not all plans were realized due to the many obstacles we faced throughout the year. Nevertheless, we remained adaptable and resourceful, with some unplanned activities even contributing to our PI achievements

Get PDFRecently, the APB UiTMCPP staff members were enlisted to assist with our department's strategic action planning for 2023. The staff members were grouped into four teams and conducted brainstorming sessions to propose strategic action plans. With each member possessing unique skills and expertise, the groups collectively evaluated the department's latest performance indicators and discussed potential contributions towards their attainment. The discussions were fruitful, and each group had done a great job in completing their planning task. They have identified the critical areas of focus and outlined the necessary steps to achieve the department's goals. The staff members have also brainstormed ideas on how to overcome some challenges that may arise during the implementation of the plans. As the Strategic Planning Committee for APB UiTMCPP, I have consolidated the strategic action plans generated by each group and presented them in an infographic. The activities are categorized according to their potential contributions to the main performance indicators, allowing for a clear and organized overview of our planned initiative

Get PDFI am very thankful for the opportunity to join the 2-day 'Microsoft Al TEACH Train the Trainers' held virtually from 14th to 15th August 2024. involving around 200 lecturers from UiTM Cawangan Pulau Pinang. During this session, we were introduced to the application of generative Al. ethical considerations in Al use. and practical usage of several Microsoft Al tools. Being fascinated by technology. I enjoyed the process and participated actively in all activities. One notable activity involved integrating Al into our current educational practices. My team was tasked with integrating ethical Al use. and I led the discussion, proposing a solution that combined UiTM's ADAB Model with Microsoft's six principles of responsible Al. Presenting our ideas to all participants and receiving positive feedback from the facilitators was a highlight for me

Get PDFThis is an email I received recently from Touch 'n Go eWallet. Interesting to see the number of tolls I have passed in 2022. If it is up to me, I would never bother to keep track of it. Did I learn anything from all those toll passings? Perhaps, it is the “toll booths analogy”. We could use the same approach we use when passing a toll booth in our everyday life. Try to visualise in your mind, you are driving on a highway and approaching a toll booth. There are cash lanes, Touch 'n Go lanes, Smart Tag lanes, as well as the RFID lanes. Many different ways to get through the toll. What do we do when we approach these tolls? Naturally, we will slow down. Then, we will look at the available booths and start to think about what we have at our disposal (for example, RFID). Then we will look for the shortest line, the one that can get us through the fastest. We can hope for the best, but sometimes things will not go our way. Problems could happen, for example, the car in front of us might cause delays and we end up passing the tolls slightly later than we expected. Such is life. Everybody has their own goals and destinations in life. We can always make the plans and efforts to move towards our goals. It is good if we can achieve those goals quickly, but the toll booths taught me that sometimes, it is good to slow down for a moment to analyse the situation. This could give us clarity and better perspectives to make better choices in life. We can hope for the best as we make our choices, but we must also be prepared for the worst. Things can go unexpectedly in life, and we need to learn to embrace these moments as well

No full textIn the past few years, numerous researches had been conducted on educational computer games. However, there is no clear evidence on whether educational computer game is applicable in Malaysian classroom. This research will explore on the effectiveness of educational computer games on students’ performance in English grammar, specifically in the mastery of homonym, synonym and antonym. A total of 13 students from an urban secondary school had participated in this study, divided into two groups: treatment and control group. The educational computer game was developed by the researcher based on several software developmental models. The effectiveness of the computer game was tested through a pre-test and post-test, while students' level of motivation was measured using a questionnaire adapted from Keller's ARCS model of motivational design. This research found that the use of educational computer game in the classroom did not significantly improve students' performance and motivation

Get PDFI know what you are thinking; enough with the COVID-19 and post-pandemic talk, right? Our academic landscape had returned almost completely back to normal, with face-to-face classes and normal execution of activities without social distancing measures. Yes, you are right. However, there are more to consider. In the wake of the post-COVID-19 era, the generation of students that started their first and second semesters in university via online classes are now advancing into their third and fourth semesters. These students are slowly taking leadership positions within various student organisations and societies. Have you ever wondered what kind of leaders will emerge from the ashes of COVID-19? Through my experience as a lecturer and student club advisor, I had the opportunity to engage with students not just in classroom teachings but also in various programmes inside and outside the campus. Having been a former UiTM student myself, I used to be actively involved in student associations back in my student years. However, now I have observed a subtle but notable change. I am concerned to notice that for many students, leadership potential and innovative ideas appear to be lacking. Could these be the impact from the repeated waves of pandemic, leaving mark on these students’ creativity and leadership as they spent their early university years studying from home? The once spirited projects, venturesome programmes and spirited initiatives now seem veiled in lack of initiatives. Maybe it is just my perception, but today's students seem to be needing an extra nudge to get them moving and initiating actions. As educators, we can help reignite the passion for leadership and innovation among our students. It is time for us to create a nurturing environment in our classroom that fosters risk-taking and encourages creative approaches. By rekindling students’ confidence in their creative ideas and supporting their bold initiatives, perhaps we can reignite the sparks of leadership and creativity. By allowing them to express their ideas and realising their innate potential, we pave the way for a future generation that could fearlessly navigate challenges of the future world. While we might not be around for that long, at least they will be there to carry on our legacy and teachings

From our experience using all these different platforms, we can easily notice some similarities and differences in features which could either be appealing or not for classroom use. Some platforms are more user-friendly and easier to use, while others might be a bit complicated, but offer more tools and security features. There are so many options out there and it is our responsibility as educators to choose which platform is best for our students’ needs. Gather Town is one of the platforms that I had recently discovered, which seems to have great potential in establishing interesting and interactive online classes. Do not feel left out if you have never heard about it because Gather Town is a relatively new virtual meeting platform that was just launched on 3rd April 2021

Get PDFOn 10th June 2023, the English Language Club of UiTM Cawangan Pulau Pinang (UiTMCPP) hosted an intensive Malaysian University English Test (MUET) webinar under the name "Ace-Spire Your MUET." This programme aimed to guide and motivate students gearing up for their imminent MUET examinations, providing them with essential tips and strategies to ace MUET questions while nurturing their analytical skills. Despite postponement of nearly two months from its original date, this 3-hour webinar witnessed the enthusiastic participation of 17 UiTM students and 26 Form Six students from other esteemed institutions. Guided by two Akademi Pengajian Bahasa (APB) lecturers as programme advisors, this initiative was driven solely by passion and collaboration, devoid of any university budget. In a collaboration with Penerbit Ehsan, the English Language Club had successfully provided participants with textbooks, webinar platform, and the expertise of an acclaimed MUET examiner, Mr. Choo Wan Yat. As the author of ACE MUET, along with a repertoire of other esteemed workbooks and textbooks, Mr. Choo is a highly sought-after speaker in the MUET community. His expertise shone as he delved into MUET's Writing and Reading components, endowing participants with invaluable insights aligned with the latest syllabus based on the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR)

Muhammad Aiman Abdul Halim selaku AJK Unit Strategik Transformasi Universiti dari Akademi Pengajian Bahasa (APB) UiTMCPP telah menghadiri Bengkel Perancangan Strategik UiTMCPP 2024 yang bertempat di ILD Kg. Gajah, Perak. Bengkel ini merupakan aktiviti tahunan dalam usaha untuk menyusun arah tuju dan inisiatif UiTMCPP dalam memenuhi indeks pencapaian prestasi (KPI) yang diberikan. Sesi pada hari pertama memberi fokus pada pembentangan indeks pencapaian prestasi bagi tahun lalu. APB UiTMCPP telah mencapai pencapaian yang membanggakan apabila disenaraikan sebagai jabatan paling cemerlang di peringkat UiTMCPP untuk tahun 2023, dengan peratus indeks pencapaian prestasi sebanyak 87.8%. Kejayaan ini bukanlah sesuatu yang mudah, namun ia adalah hasil dari kerjasama, komitmen dan dedikasi tinggi para pensyarah APB. Semoga APB dapat terus mengekalkan momentum ini untuk tahun 2024 dan seterusnya
