Phytoremediation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon of impatiens balsamina associated with pseudomonas sp. / Norul Yasmin Abd Manan
Polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), also known as polynuclear aromatic hydrocarbons, are potent atmospheric pollutants consisting of fused aromatic rings and do not carry or contain heteroatoms/substituents. In this study a bacteria-strain was used to enhance phytoremediation process with the aid of flowering plants which able to grow wildly that is Impatiens balsamina. Pseudomonas sp. which was among PGPR was selected since it was able to colonize plant roots. Bacteria strains were inoculated and growth onto the plate in laboratory of UiTM, Kuala Pilah, with the presence of PAHs which was anthracene and phenanthrene. GC-MS was used in this study to analyse the concentration of phenanthrene and anthracene before and after 15 days. After 15 days, it was found out that, without the presence of Pseudomonas sp. in soil both PAHs able to be remove up to 90-100% from day 1. As compared to the purposely adding Pseudomonas sp. which is only 13-30% of removal of PAHs. This study also showed that without the presence of bacteria-degrading such as Pseudomonas sp., Impatiens balsamina alone able to degrade the PAHs
Sequence analysis and homology modeling of mouse TRPV5 and TRPV6 channels / Azreena Izzaty Abd Manan
Transient receptor potential (TRP) channels are a group of cation channel that comprise of several sub-families which have important function in human body. One of the TRP channel sub-family, named transient receptor potential vanilloid (TRPV) channel especially TRPV5 and TRPV6 are associated with many diseases and cancers including breast and prostate cancers. Therefore, TRPV channels are expected to be very significant for future drug targets. In order to seek for new drugs that targeted on this type of ion channel, the structure, function and mechanism of this target protein need to be elucidated. Unfortunately, there is still no complete high-resolution structure available yet for TRPVs. Because of that, researchers only can predict the structure, function and mechanism of this protein through biochemical data and computational predicted models. Homology modeling method is significantly useful in developing a structure of the target protein. It is the initial part of the computational drug-design process that offers many advantages including
cost and time efficiency compared to the former conventional method. The objectives of this study are to develop three-dimensional structures of mouse TRPV5 and TRPV6 channels using homology modeling method and to compare models of mouse TRPV5 and TRPV6 generated based on three multiple sequence alignments which are ClustalW, MAFFT and MUSCLE. In this study, a homology modeling method was used in order to construct and predict the atomic resolution models of mouse TRPV5 and TRPV6 protein channel. This study focused mainly on the construction of the transmembrane region (S1-S6) of both TRPV channels. In homology modeling method, the steps involved including selection of protein template, multiple sequence alignment of mouse TRPV5 and TRPV6 sequence with the protein template sequence by using the selected algorithms, transmembrane domain prediction, model development and finally, model comparison and evaluation. In this study, Shaker family voltage dependent potassium channel (kv1.2- kv2.1 paddle chimera channel) (PDB ID 2R9R) was selected as the template .The results show that the models of mouse TRPV5 and TRPV6 generated based on ClustalW alignment are the best models due to the lowest RMSD values, the lowest z-score values viewed in ProSA plot and the highest percentage of residues in most favored region showed in the Ramachandran plot. Therefore, ClustalW is the best alignment that produces good quality models compared to MAFFT and MUSCLE algorithms
Variation of voltage supply on energy consumption / Abd Manan Abd Rahman
In engineering terms, power is the rate of delivering energy and is proportional to the product of the voltage and current. The power supply system can only control voltage supply, it has no control over the currents that that particular loads might drawn. So changes in voltage supply will affect power drawn by the system. This project is aimed to investigate the possibility of saving energy thought reduction of voltage within the allowable voltage limits of supply system
The distribution of estate under Islamic law in Malaysia / Mohamad Shariffudin Abd Manan
In all the States of Peninsular Malaysia (with the exception of those parts of Negeri Sembilan and Melaka where the adat perpateh is followed to the exclusion of Muslim law) the Muslim rules of inheritance of intestacy are followed. These rules are however subject to the following in the Malay States (a) On the death of a peasant his widow is entitled to a special share in his estate, as her share in harta sapencharian unless provision has been made for her inter vivos, as for example by registering land in her name. If the deceased had no children and the estate is small she may take the whole estate} in other cases she takes a half or less according to circumstances
Analysis of handover performance in mobile WiMAX network / Nurulhuda Abd Manan
Mobile WiMAX is a fast growing broadband access technology that enables low-cost mobile Internet application. Data, voice and video streaming are the main application ofthe mobile WiMAX and the demand from the user is growing every day. The handover performance in mobile network is the most important factor that can influence the Quality of Service (QoS). The parameters such as throughput and packet delay are the main factors which affect the WiMAX network performance. This paper study the handover performance in term of handover delay, throughput and packet delay for three different traffic applications which are Voice over IP (VoIP), video conferencing and web browsing (HTTP). A different traffic give different handover delay time, throughput and packet delay during handover process

Performance analysis of dual-axis solar tracking system / Muhammad Ikhsan Abd Manan
This project presents the performance analysis of dual-axis solar tracking system using Arduino platform. The ultimate objective of this project is to investigate which one is better between static solar panel and solar tracker. This project is divided into two stages, which are hardware and software development. In hardware development, five light dependent resistors (LDR) were used to capture the maximum light source from the sun. Two servo motors also were used to move the solar panel at maximum light source location sensed by the LDRs. While for the software part, the code was constructed by using C programming language and targeted to the Arduino UNO controller
The use of oxygen utilization rate (OUR) in municipal wastewater characterization / Norfazilah Abd Manan
Wastewater characterization constitutes the starting point before undertakings the designing process for wastewater treatment. Basically, wastewaters are contributed from various resources such as commercial, industrial and domestic. In this study, the municipal wastewater has been characterized in term of strength and treatability using 5-days Biochemical Oxygen Demand (BOD5) and Chemical Oxygen Demand (COD). But, these two conventional methods are becoming to be questioned as their relevance in representing microbial processes in wastewater. Oxygen Utilization Rate (OUR) is now being promoted as an alternative tool to characterize the wastewater. This study apply the OUR method to characterized municipal wastewater into various COD fractions. Seventeen (17) samples had been tested during laboratory work. Result from BOD5 and COD measurement gives that the municipal wastewater at sampling area are considered weak in strength and highly treatable. While, the result on OUR measurement and COD fraction analysis on municipal wastewater at sampling location show that the range of COD fractions of municipal wastewater in Malaysia differs from values reported by IAWPRC Task Group (Henze et al., 1987). The easily biodegradable COD, Ss, fraction in this study was found lower at manhole and (WWTP). The hydrolysable component was found higher for both locations compared to IAWPRC values. An equation has been established to find a relationship between BOD5 and Modified COD fractions. From the equation established, only a proportion (in percentage) of slowly biodegradable COD, XS2 are used in BOD5 process
