    THE NEW COINS OF ABBAS I FROM THE MINT OF ZAGEMI

Recent studies have shown that the mint left a rich monetary heritage, both in silver and copper emissions. Its new specimens are actively being published in many scholarly works, but a lot of new coins are yet to be studied. Our goal is only to describe the new specimens of the silver coinages of Abbas I and present their history. The first coin in Zagemi was minted by the Persian Shah Tahmasp I. Since that time, the city started to circulate its own coins. The main source about that is shown from the works of Persian historian of Turkmen origin Iskandar Munshi, where he reports that Georgian kingdoms were conquered, and the kingdoms of Kakheti, Kartli and Meskheti minted coins in the name of their master (conqueror). The first work about the coins of Kakheti kingdom (eastern Georgia) belongs to T. Kutelia, who perfectly describes the newly found silver Zagemi coins (and also the coins of Abbas I) and allocated the two main denominations – one abbasi (weighting ca. 7.76 g.-7,5 g.) and one muhammadi (weighting ca. 3.8g.). The first new type of the coin which we want to describe is one abbasi (pic.7; pic.8) with no year of issue. Av. Shia religious formula in four lines, where the word رسول (messenger) was changed by نبى (prophet). – There is no God but Allah alone, Muhammad is the prophet of Allah, ‘Ali is the wali of Allah. لا اله الا الله محمد نبى الله على ولى الله Rv. In the center Persian text – Slave of the king of purity, Abbas, struck at Zagemi. بنده شاه و لايت عباس ضرب زگم Around another Persian formula and the names of twelve Shia Imams. The unique in that coin is the way how the name of Zagemi is depicted. All letters are written separately and placed on the elongated ending of the letter mim - م ( pic. 2). The description of that word on Abbas I’s coins by T. Kutelia, it was known as زگم or .گمز Also new researches show that the coins in the name of Abbas I were struck in another denomination – one shahi (1/4 of abbasi). We found an almost identical coin to what we have described (pic. 7, pic. 8) above (one abbasi), but which is of shahi (pic.10) denomination (weight 1.98 g.). Also, another new coin with shahi denomination (1.73 gr.) is interesting (pic. 12), as it also does not have the date of issue. Two different dies were used, while the Shia creed of faith was removed. The last type (two coins), which we describe, are in two different denominations: one abbasi (pic.13) and one shahi (pic14). It is notable that both of them contain the minting date as 1011 AH. (= 1602) which is rare due to the bad condition of those coins. As a conclusion, it could be said that Zagemi was the main strategic city in Kakheti kingdom, which is clearly shown on the Ottoman map (pic. 6). However, after the conquests of Abbas I, Kakheti kingdom weakened mainly due to the crisis in the capital Zagemi. The city gradually lost its economic importance and was later on deserted. But the huge heritage left by the Zagemi mint still has to be well researched

    The radio frequency (RF) sensing is an evolving technique in the field of healthcare sector. This chapter covers various RF sensing technologies as support for healthcare applications. Initially, the detection, monitoring, and working function of this technology is discussed, covering insight of signal processing of the various sensing devices and artificial intelligence-based algorithms. The applications of radio frequency wireless sensing considering remote healthcare sector include falls, FOG, breath detection, and walking behavior leverage movement induced by a subject to determine the abnormalities due to disease related to body motion. Majority of the radio frequency sensing systems that encounter numerous challenges should be addressed in order to provide the reliable healthcare solutions. The chapter provides some of them. It also provides a brief background into three widely used radio frequency sensing systems, namely Wi-Fi, radar, and radio-frequency identification sensing systems. The chapter also discusses their different parameters

    Molecular epidemiology of ESBLs genes and multi-drug resistance in diarrheagenic Escherichia Coli strains isolated from adults in Iran

    Resistance to oxyimino cephalosporins antibiotics in Enterobacteriaceae is primarily done by the extended spectrum beta-lactamases (ESBLs). Clear identification of risk factors for ESBLs-producing infections is necessary. Therefore, efficient strategies can be developed to decrease outbreak of these infections. The aim of this study was to determine the antibacterial susceptibility and ESBLs pattern of diarrhogenic Escherichia coli (E. coli) strains isolated from adult patients. In the present study, diarrheogenic E. coli strains were isolated from 54 patients from the University of Medical Sciences hospitals in Shiraz. Antimicrobial susceptibility testing was done by disk diffusion method by CLSI criteria. The presence of bla(TEM), bla(SHV) and bla(CTX-M) genes was investigated by PCR using designated primers. The prevalence of ESBLs-producer E. coli strains was 12.96%. Antimicrobial resistance testing showed a high resistance to cefexime, trimethoprim-sulfamethoxazole, ampicillin and penicillin. Overall, beta-lactamase genes were identified in 52 (96.30%) isolates which were identified as 45 (83.33%) bla(TEM), 17 (31.48%) bla(SHV) and 11 (20.37%) bla(CTX-M). ESBLs-producer E. coli is very prevalent in diarrheogenic strains isolated from adult patients. Also, this study clearly showed that the blaT(EM) gene for ESBLs-producer E. coli was widespread in Iran

    Introduction: The emergence of Escherichia coli that produce extended spectrum b-lactamases (ESBLs) and are multidrug resistant poses antibiotic management problems. ESBLs are cephalosporinases that confer resistance to a wide variety of oxyimino cephalosporins and create serious therapeutic problems. The objective of this study was to determine the blaTEM, blaSHV and blaCTX-M Genes of diarrheagenic E. coli. Methods: We conducted a cross sectional-descriptive study on 150 E. coli strains, isolated from patients who had diarrhea at 3 major hospitals in Shiraz from April to November 2010. Initially, E. coli strains isolated by biochemical analysis. Finally, prevalence of blaTEM, blaSHV and blaCTX-M were determined by multiplex PCR assay. Statistical analyses were performed using the c2 test. Pvalues less than 0.05 were taken to indicate statistical significance. Results: Overall, ESBL-related bla genes were detected in 143 (95.33%) isolates which were identified as 79 (52.66%) TEM, 7 (4.66%) SHV, 4 (2.66%) CTX-M, 12 (8%) TEM/SHV, 16 (10.66%) TEM/CTX-M, 7 (4.66%) SHV/CTX-M and 18 (12%) TEM/SHV/CTX-M. Statistical analysis revealed that more relationships between blaSHV and age 48 60 (p = 0.009) and blaCTX-M age 12 17 (p = 0.009). Conclusion: ESBLs in E. coli has increased in the last few years and increase in cephalosporin resistance is mainly due to an increase in the proportion of isolates carrying the blaTEM gene in Shiraz. ESBL-producing E. coli infections have a significant impact on several important clinical outcomes, and efforts to control outbreaks of infection with ESBLproducing E. coli should emphasize judicious use of all antibiotics as well as barrier precautions to reduce spread

    <i>Amphidromus</i> (<i>Syndromus</i>) <i>abbasi</i>, new species <p>(Figs. 1 A–C)</p> <p> <i>Material examined. –</i> Holotype – 1 ex. (MZB.Gst.14.232), arboreal on low lying bushes and trees along a stream in damp forest just above sea level, about 1.2 km from the coast, Langgaliru (9°45'44"S 119°38'33"E), Southwest Sumba, Indonesia, coll. John Abbas, Sep.2007.</p> <p>Paratypes.– 10 ex. (MZB.Gst.14.233); 5 ex. (ZRC.MOL.2832–2836), 1 ex. (ZRC.MOL.2960); 8 ex. (CSY409.003 amph048.00/01–08); 2 ex. (MNHN); 3 ex. (BMNH20080623) – same data as holotype.</p> <p> <i>Description. –</i> Shell thin, sinistral, smooth with somewhat silky lustre; shell height up to 41.3 mm, width to 16 mm, aperture height to 21.2 mm in examined specimens; sinistral and slender ovately conical, covered with a thin periderm; whorls (6.5–7) rather flat, giving the shell a generally straight sided profile; outer lip thin and slightly expanded outwardly but not reflected; columella white, thin, slightly curved, without folds; umbilicus perforated or nearly closed; aperture large, about half of shell height, oblique, peristome basally rounded (“tear-drop” shaped); tip of apex faintly pinkishbrown, some individuals with a brown-black spot; parietal wall thin and transparent; ground colour light yellow or light to dark brown, decorated with variegated radial streaks or flames in the antepenultimate and penultimate whorls and an alternately blotched (somewhat checkered) subsutural spiral band; colour in aperture light yellow to brown.</p> <p> <i>Distribution. –</i> Known thus far only from the type locality, probably endemic.</p> <p> <i>Etymology. –</i> This species is named after Mr. John Abbas who collected, and kindly donated the specimens for our study.</p> <p> <i>Remarks. –</i> No distinct dark axial bands marking interruptions in shell development (resting stage or varix) were observed in all examined specimens of <i>Amphidromus</i> (<i>Syndromus</i>) <i>abbasi</i>, new species. The alternately blotched subsutural band appears most prominently on the last whorl just above the periphery. The radial bands and patterns are consistent in most specimens examined, but are faintly marked or relatively monotonous in some. According to Laidlaw & Solem (1961), only <i>Amphidromus</i> (<i>Syndromus</i>) <i>latestrigatus</i> Schepman, 1892, and <i>Amphidromus</i> (<i>Syndromus</i>) <i>floresianus</i> Fulton, 1897 are known from Sumba Island. However, in terms of external morphology, <i>Amphidromus</i> (<i>Syndromus</i>) <i>contrarius</i> (Müller, 1774) (Fig. 1, D), and <i>Amphidromus</i> (<i>Syndromus</i>) <i>filozonatus</i> von Martens, 1867 (Fig. 1E) resemble <i>Amphidromus</i> (<i>Syndromus</i>) <i>abbasi</i>, new species, more. Some individuals of <i>Amphidromus</i> (<i>Syndromus</i>) <i>abbasi</i>, new species, with a light yellow ground colour may resemble similarly coloured <i>Amphidromus</i> (<i>Syndromus</i>) <i>contrarius</i> (Müller, 1774), while light brown forms are reminiscent of <i>Amphidromus</i> (<i>Syndromus</i>) <i>filozonatus</i> von Martens, 1867. Despite the suggested similarities with these congeners, the profile and peculiar teardrop-shaped aperture of <i>Amphidromus</i> (<i>Syndromus</i>) <i>abbasi</i>, new species, easily distinguishes it from other known <i>Amphidromus</i> (<i>Syndromus</i>) species.</p>Published as part of <i>Chan, S.     Electromagnetic Waves Scattering Characteristics of Metasurfaces

    Almost extreme control of electromagnetic fields is achievable using metamaterial and metasurfaces. This chapter details design techniques, challenges, and possible solutions of diffraction type, transmitted, specular, and absorptive type of metasurfaces in an attempt to achieve extraordinary device performance for a particular application. In metasurfaces, the transmission can also involve scattering using the phenomenon of diffraction, which is directly defined by the properties of the metasurface. Electromagnetic wave scattering patterns dependent on the incident polarization can be tailored by the encoded metasurfaces with regular sequences. On contrast, polarization-insensitive diffusion-like scattering can also be successfully achieved by digital metasurface encoded with randomly distributed coding sequences leading to substantial suppression of backward scattering in a broadband microwave frequency. It is believed that controlling the electromagnetic waves reflected from and transmitted through intelligently designed metasurfaces can shape the future of the communication industry.<br/
