New norfloxacin/nitric oxide donor hybrids: Synthesis and nitric oxide release measurement using a modified Griess colorimetric method
Oximes and nitrate esters are considered as important nitric oxide (NO) donors with diverse biological activities. Herein, we report the synthesis and characterization of new oxime and nitrate ester derivatives of norfloxacin as potential NO donor hybrids with expected synergistic antimicrobial activity. The release of NO from those hybrids was measured by a modified Griess method in which p-nitroaniline was employed instead of sulfanilamide. The increased electrophilicity of the intermediate 4-nitroaniline diazonium salt accelerated the coupling process and shortened the overall assessment time. The improved detection limits and enhanced sensitivity would pave the way for the future application of this method in nitrite determination in biological or non-biological systems

Performa, Kecernaan Nutrien Dan Retensi Nitrogen Domba Lokal Yang Diberi Tepung Lamtoro (Leucaena Leucocephala) Dan Tepung Gamal (Gliricidia Sepium).
Lamtoro (Leucaena leucocephala) merupakan leguminosa yang biasa digunakan
sebagai pakan ruminansia. Lamtoro memiliki kandungan protein, palatabilitas
dan kecernaan yang tinggi. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengevaluasi
penggunaan tepung lamtoro yang dikombinasikan dengan tepung gamal dalam
ransum domba yang diberi pakan rumput gajah dan pollard terhadap performa,
kecernaan nutrien dan retensi nitrogen. Perlakuan terdiri atas P1 (60% rumput
gajah + 10% pollard + 30% tepung gamal + 0% tepung lamtoro), P2 (60% rumput
gajah + 10% pollard + 15% tepung gamal + 15% tepung lamtoro), P3 (60%
rumput gajah + 10% pollard + 0% tepung gamal + 30% tepung lamtoro).
Penelitian menggunakan 15 ekor domba lokal jantan dengan rataan bobot badan
14.65 ± 2.36 kg yang dibagi ke dalam 3 perlakuan dan 5 ulangan. Penelitian ini
menggunakan rancangan acak kelompok (RAK) dengan penentuan kelompok
berdasarkan bobot badan. Peubah yang diamati meliputi performa (konsumsi,
pertambahan bobot badan harian dan efisiensi penggunaan pakan), kecernaan
nutrien serta retensi nitrogen. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa penambahan
tepung lamtoro dan tepung gamal memberikan pengaruh yang sangat nyata
(P<0.01) meningkatkan konsumsi dan berpengaruh nyata (P<0.05) terhadap
pertambahan bobot badan harian, kecernaan protein dan serat kasar, tetapi tidak
berpengaruh nyata terhadap kecernaan nutrien lainnya, retensi nitrogen dan
efisiensi penggunaan pakan. Perlakuan penambahan tepung lamtoro hingga 30%
(P3) menurunkan kecernaan protein kasar, tetapi meningkatkan konsumsi,
kecernaan serat kasar dan pertambahan bobot badan harian sehingga mampu
meningkatkan performa domba lokal

The relations between 'Abbas Hilmi and Lord Cromer.
Abbas Hilmi II came to power after about nine years of British Occupation, during which Tawfiq was almost completely submissive to the British policy. At the beginning of that period the nascent nationalist movement seemed almost defunct. Towards the end, however, it began to show faint signs of life. The importance of 'Abbas's reign between 1892 and 1907 is that, contrary to his father, he followed mainly a policy of resistance towards the Occupation and Cromer, and sided with the nationalist movement, thus bringing to the battlefield a new force. This force was dependent on the Khedive at first, but it ultimately acquired strength and began to stand on its own feet. The Khedive and the Rationalists were, however, aware of the necessity of co-operation. The battlefield was not an isolated one, and the struggle was not confined to the three combating forces, Turkey, and some European powers, had their interests in Egypt. This, together' with the weakness of the Egyptian side, introduced an external factor which affected the situation. The external support was not of very much help to 'Abbas and the Nationalists, and the period shows steady increase of British domination, and constant diminution of the Khedive's authority. This trend was accelerated by the Sudan reconquest. The period witnessed also a change in the aims of 'Abbas. At first he resisted the Occupation in general, while at the end he was mainly struggling against Cromer's domination. The purpose of this thesis is a study, through the relations between 'Abbas and Cromer, of the Anglo-Egyptian relations during that period. Care is given to the different elements which affected these relations, especially the nationalist movement, The effect on the nationalist movement is also explained

New fluoroquinolones/nitric oxide donor hybrids: design, synthesis and antitubercular activity
New nitric oxide (NO) donating fluoroquinolones/nitrate ester hybrids were prepared and their structures were characterizedby various spectroscopic and analytical tools. The release of NO from the prepared nitrate esters was measured using the modified Griess colorimetric method. Evaluation of antitubercular activity showed that most of tested compounds exhibited comparable or higher activity than the parent fluoroquinolones. Compounds 2b, 3a, 4a, 5a, and 2d showed better activity than ciprofloxacin. Nevertheless, none of the new compounds were superior to the parent fluoroquinolones in terms of DNA cleavage stimulation in mycobacteria. The additional growth inhibition effect that is distinct from gyrase poisoning may be due to release of NO or enhancement of lipophilicity. These data are augmented by docking results where the docked compounds did not exert additional significant bindings over the parent fluoroquinolones
Synthesis and antimicrobial evaluation of new nitric oxide‐donating fluoroquinolone/oxime hybrids
A new series of nitric oxide‐donating fluoroquinolone/oximes was prepared in this study. The nitric oxide release from the prepared compounds was measured using a modified Griess colorimetric method. The antitubercular evaluation of the synthesized compounds indicated that ketone derivatives 2b and 2e and oximes 3b and 3d exhibited somewhat higher activity than their respective parent fluoroquinolones. Mycobacterial DNA cleavage studies and molecular modeling of Mycobacterium tuberculosis DNA gyrase were pursued to explain the observed bioactivity. More important, antibacterial evaluation showed that oximes 3c–e are highly potent against Klebsiella pneumoniae, with minimum inhibitory concentration (MIC) values of 0.06, 0.08, and 0.034 µM, respectively, whereas ketone 2c and oxime 4c are more active against Staphylococcus aureus than ciprofloxacin (MIC values: 0.7, 0.38, and 1.6 µM, respectively). Notably, the antipseudomonal activities of compounds 2a and 4c were much higher than those of their respective parent fluoroquinolones
