In light of political geography, 1989 forced migration of Bulgarian Turks
This study is about the reasons, evolution, impact and outcomes of 1989 forced migration of Bulgarian Turks from Bulgaria to Turkey. By frequently referring to the Bulgarian academic sources, this study analyzes this forced migration which is the biggest ethnic wave of migration that took place in the last quarter of European history, from political, demographic and socio-cultural perspectives. Discussing the humanitarian and moral aspects of this migration and presenting the impact of the migration for Turkey and Bulgaria from the perspective of political geography are among the reasons why this study has been conducted. We hope that this study with its focus on geography of migrations and political geography, will be useful not only geographers but also for political scientists, sociologists, demographers and other related field experts
Geo-ecological state of minsk environment
According to the suggested methods, the estimation of surface layer pollution of the open air in Minsk from stationary sources is done. Administrative regions of the town are ranged according to the amount of pollutant emissions from the enterprises into the open air. Ecological state of the water objects, soils and forest parks of Minsk is analysed
Comparison of the accuracy of the human development index with a discriminant analysis in the measurement of human development
The present study aims to evaluate the success of the classification made in the Human Development Report (HDR) by means of a discriminant analysis. The report, prepared in the framework of United Nations Development Programme (UNDP), reflects the socio-economical development level of countries worldwide. The results based on the data provided in the HDR (2006) indicate that a classification done by a discriminant analysis has a great success rate
A critical approach to geography curriculum in terms of global awareness attainments
The world has experienced in recent years, a number of factors such as the intensification of international relations, the acceleration of technological developments and the presence of transboundary problems have led to increased scientific interest in global issues. In this context, the aim of the study is to evaluate the geography course curriculum in Turkey in terms of global awareness education. In this study, a document review was conducted, one of the qualitative research designed. The obtained results were analyzed using descriptive analysis and content analysis. Within the scope of the study, overarching themes frequently highlighted and highlighted by researchers were identified from the topics derived from global awareness field literature. Geography course curriculum is evaluated within the scope of these themes. In general, it is seen that the issues related to global awareness are significantly involved in all aspects of the program, including its basic philosophy, general goals and achievements. When we look at the size of the attainments that are the application area of the program in detail, it is seen that there is no balanced distribution between the global themes highlighted in the attainments and that these are not designed to give individuals full global awareness. Therefore, it is necessary to develop a systematic global awareness learning area by using the relevant field writing while designing the geography course curriculum program. In addition, in order for students to understand the world from a holistic perspective, the program should include more themes for developing a global perspective
Development of ADDIE Instructional Design Model Based Social Participation Skills in Secondary School Students
The increasing prevalence of contemporary social problems, together with citizens’ indifference toward these issues, indicates a deficiency in individuals’ social participation skills. This concern, which serves as the foundation of the present study, seeks to enhance secondary school students’ social participation skills while providing social studies teachers with a systematic framework to support the development of these competencies. In this context, this study designed the process of developing social participation skills for 5th graders by following the stages of the ADDIE instructional design model within the scope of the social studies course. The study adopted a mixed-methods research design that integrated quantitative and qualitative approaches. The analysis and evaluation phases employed a case study design, while the design, development, and implementation phases were structured around activity-based and problem-centered instructional design models. The sample group of the study consisted of social studies teachers and 5th graders in Gölcük District of Kocaeli Province. The findings indicate that the activities implemented to foster social participation skills enhanced fifth graders’ awareness of social issues, increased their level of social consciousness, and contributed to more positive perceptions of non-governmental organizations. In addition, a statistically significant difference was observed between students’ pretest and posttest scores on the social participation skills assessment
The republic of Belarus from the perspective of administration and regional geography
Belarus is a leading country that is least known, least debated and scientifically least investigated. Therefore, the main objective of this study is to promote the republic of Belarus to the Turkish audience and help people broaden their body of knowledge about this country. Geographical, historical, geopolitical, socio-economic and demographic findings and interpretation constitute the multi-level fields of debate of this Belarus-oriented study. In this study, not only were the historical and current administrative structure of Belarus and the resulting consequences examined, but the comparative geographical, socio-economic and demographic analyses of the provinces (oblats) were carried out as well. It emerged in this study that there were some differences amongst the provinces (oblats) in terms of industrial production, agricultural production, trade potential, settlement and demographic characteristics that were based on various factors
Orta Avrupa’da Polonya’nın Jeostratejik ve Jeopolitik Konumu 1918-1939
Due to the terminological difficulties as well as diverse definitions of the region that it is possible to come across in literature it seems necessary to clarify the notion of the region as well as its spatial extent in Europe. The term region is commonly used in three different meanings corresponding to three different concepts of "part of the area". The division of space into specific areas can serve as a tool for the intended research, either for the organization of a specific social action in the space or may constitute the subject of research. There are many arguments for distinguishing Central Europe that can be understood as the belt of countries which runs west of the border of Germany, Austria and Italy, and to the east of the border of Russia (without the Kaliningrad enclave), Belarus, Ukraine and Moldova. These arguments can be divided into geographical, economic, historical, political and cultural criteria. Putting them together indicates the existence of a separate specific spatial formation with distinct features different from the surrounding area and at the same time with the borderline that is difficult to determine. From a political point of view, based on historical premises and the ranges of various religions, the center of Central Europe, which included countries being in the former USSR sphere of influence between 1918 and 1939, consists of the present territories of Poland, the Czech Republic, Slovakia and Hungary. Today there are following countries in a border zone: Lithuania, Latvia, western Belarus, Kaliningrad Oblast (Kaliningrad), and the western part of Ukraine, Romania, Vojvodina in Serbia, Slovenia, the eastern part of Austria and the eastern part of Germany. Clearly defined regions of Western Europe, Scandinavia, the European part of Russia and the Balkans are bordering with this area
Agrophysical and agrochemical scientific base for integrated management of agroecosystem water-nutrients statuses
The paper deals with complete scientific base to link the soil water status with the soil nutrient regime for plants. The base is developed and offered for simultaneous management of both complex environmental factors in agricultural practices. The innovative world attainments, concerning computerised monitoring, new quantitative estimate, and modem decision support system for managing the agro-ecosystem water-nutrients statuses, are applied. We formulate the main scientific and practical problems of the rural water-nutrient management, which are recently solved. We revealed the ecological and economical aspects of water-nutrient application in agriculture, and the cardinal steps in development of agriculture in Bulgaria, the states of the European Union, and all other countries in the world.New Bulgarian index of energy levels (L) of soil moisture and new method for agrophysical estimating the soil-crop water status as a whole for the growing season are used. The well-known equations to calculate the nitrogen (N), phosphorus (P), potassium (K) and micro-elements fertilising rates were improved, introducing the new index of energy levels (L) of soil moisture, to take into account the impact of specific soil-crop water status created by farmers in field on agrochemical nutrients in soil and on the amount and quality of crop yield. For saving energy, irrigation water, fertilisers, human labour and protecting the environment (soil, surface and underground water, and atmosphere), we offer the new ecotechnology
