Analyzing Motivational Determinants of Shopping Addiction Tendency

No full text
Shopping addiction tendency is defined as being so occupied about shopping that consumers become driven by uncontrollable shopping urges and as a result of facing negative psychological, social and financial consequences. Based on a field study on university students (N=372), this paper examines hedonic shopping, escapism and negative mood reduction, as motivational determinants of shopping addiction tendency, which is a relatively less studied area of consumer behavior in Turkey. The findings indicate that, hedonic shopping, escapism and negative mood reduction all have significant effect on shopping addiction. Getting its mainstream studies from compulsive buying literature, shopping addiction literature focuses mainly on the enjoyment gathered from shopping action However this study provides new insights into potential antecedents of shopping addiction as negativity avoidance and escapism, which are negative psychological states with respect to shopping addicts quest for shopping enjoyment

Understanding the Impact of Insulation on Moisture Content of Timber

Retrofitting suspended timber floors can reduce energy demand, but also introduces moisture risks when insulation restricts natural drying. This study investigates the impact of partial spray foam insulation on the drying behaviour of pine timber, focusing on insulation timing, initial moisture content, environmental conditions, and measurement reliability. Pine specimens were conditioned under controlled conditions (20°C, 50% RH and 15°C, 80% RH) and insulated at varying moisture levels. Moisture contents were measured using the gravimetric method and three moisture meters. Results showed that insulation slowed drying compared to uninsulated timber, especially when applied at high moisture contents, prolonging exposure to decay thresholds. Safer outcomes occurred when the insulation was delayed until ≈22% MC under moderate conditions, although this was less reliable under cooler, more humid environments. Gravimetric analysis provided the most accurate assessment, while meters often mispresented values. The findings provide evidence to guide moisture-aware, durable retrofit practice.<br/

Going Beyond Counting First Authors in Author Co-citation Analysis

Get PDF
The present study examines one of the fundamental aspects of author co-citation analysis (ACA) - the way co-citation counts are defined. Co-citation counting provides the data on which all subsequent statistical analyses and mappings are based, and we compare ACA results based on two different types of co-citation counting - the traditional type that only counts the first one among a cited work's authors on the one hand and a non-traditional type that takes into account the first 5 authors of a cited work on the other hand. Results indicate that the picture produced through this non-traditional author co-citation counting contains more coherent author groups and is therefore considerably clearer. However, this picture represents fewer specialties in the research field being studied than that produced through the traditional first-author co-citation counting when the same number of top-ranked authors is selected and analyzed. Reasons for these effects are discussed

Variations on the Author

“Variations on the Author” discusses two of Eduardo Coutinho’s recent films (Um Dia na Vida, from 2010, and Últimas Conversas, posthumously released in 2015) and their contribution to the general question of documentary authorship. The director’s filmography is characterized by a consistent yet self-effacing form of authorial self-inscription: Coutinho often features as an interviewer that rather than express opinions propels discourses; an interviewer that is good at listening. This mode of self-inscription characterizes him as an author who is not expressive but who is nonetheless markedly present on the screen. In Um Dia na Vida, however, Coutinho is completely absent form the image, while Últimas Conversas, on the contrary, includes a confessional prologue that moves the director from the margins to the center of his films. This article examines the ways in which these works stand out in the filmography of a director who offers new insights into the notion of cinematic authorship

Arslan, Fatma (Aksaray, Yazar)The purpose of this study was to assess the effects of aerobic dance exercise on body composition in sedentary overweight women. In this study, Total 55 adult sedentary women participated as volunteers. The age, height and weight averages of the subjects exercise and control group were respectively 35,10±9,12 years, 1,60±5,22 m and 68,55±6,73 kg (n=29) and 30,27±10,85 years, 1,59±5,53 cm and 61,25±8,38 kg (n=26). Body composition (via skinfolds caliper), waist hip ratio, waist circumference were measured and body fat percentage, Basal Metabolic Rate and Lean Body Mass were calculated at sedentary women. The measurements were taken twice as before and after aerobic-dance exercise being applied an 8-week series of one hour exercise three days per week. The control group did not participate in any physical activity during the six-week period. There were significant differences between pretest and posttest for weight, body mass index, waist circumference, waist hip ratio, metabolic and body composition parameters in exercise group (p<0,05). Besides there were significantly decreased body weight, Lean Body Mass, Basal Metabolic Rate and fat percentage (p<0,05). Furthermore, there were not significant differences between pretest and posttest for waist circumference, waist hip ratio, body composition parameters, Lean Body Mass, Basal Metabolic Rate, body weight and body fat percentage in control group(p>0,05). As a result, it can be say that aerobic dance exercise at a moderate intensity and duration can improve physical fitness and can decrease body fat percentage, Lean Body Mass and Basal Metabolic Rate during weight loss...

aktas arslan, fatma cansu/0000-0002-9233-6542Continuous hemodialysis (HD) treatment causes many complications in patients. The aim of this study is to evaluate the upper extremity functional capacity, physical activity level, and physical functions of patients receiving continuous HD treatment. Fifty HD patients and fifty healthy subjects were included in the study. Hand grip strength with Dynamometer, range of motion of upper extremity with Digital Goniometer, functional level of the upper extremity with the Turkish version of the Shoulder, Arm, and Hand Problems Questionnaire (The DASH-T), physical activity levels with international physical activity questionnaire short form and physical functions with the human activity profile (HAP) were evaluated. The mean grip strength of the subjects in the control group was 23.3 +/- 1.44 kg, while the mean grip strength of the HD patients with fistula was 15.75 +/- 3.08 kg (P < .05). In all joint range of motion measurements; the values of HD patients were significantly lower than the control group (P < .05). The DASH symptom scores of the individuals in the HD group (mean 19.19 +/- 1.41) were significantly higher than the control group (mean 5.75 +/- 1.41) (P < .05). The number of individuals with low-level activity in the HD group (72%) was higher than the control group (34%) (P < .01). The maximum activity score score of the HAP (mean 68.7 +/- 1.4) and the adjusted activity score of the HAP (mean 42.54 +/- 3.02) were lower in the HD group (P < .0001). HD treatment adversely affects hand grip strength, the range of motion, upper extremity functions, physical activity, and physical function levels of the patients

Appropriate Similarity Measures for Author Cocitation Analysis

We provide a number of new insights into the methodological discussion about author cocitation analysis. We first argue that the use of the Pearson correlation for measuring the similarity between authors’ cocitation profiles is not very satisfactory. We then discuss what kind of similarity measures may be used as an alternative to the Pearson correlation. We consider three similarity measures in particular. One is the well-known cosine. The other two similarity measures have not been used before in the bibliometric literature. Finally, we show by means of an example that our findings have a high practical relevance.information science;Pearson correlation;cosine;similarity measure;author cocitation analysis

Dispelling the Myths Behind First-author Citation Counts

Get PDF
We conducted a full-scale evaluative citation analysis study of scholars in the XML research field to explore just how different from each other author rankings resulting from different citation counting methods actually are, and to demonstrate the capability of emerging data and tools on the Web in supporting more realistic citation counting methods. Our results contest some common arguments for the continued use of first-author citation counts in the evaluation of scholars, such as high correlations between author rankings by first-author citation counts and other citation counting methods, and high costs of using more realistic citation counting methods that are not well-supported by the ISI databases. It is argued that increasingly available digital full text research papers make it possible for citation analysis studies to go beyond what the ISI databases have directly supported and to employ more sophisticated methods
